Sabes saving his job?
A good draft this coming June could conceivably vault the Giants to the #3 rank next year since some of the Rays and A's talent could graduate to the majors. Neukom has expressly stated the organization will focus on homegrown talent so this has to make Sabean look a bit better.

Then I hope the guys we acquire are lowly-regarded when we draft them, but then go on to wild success after Sabean is canned.

It's ok
You’re getting back into the swing of things. This is your spring training too. You’re just a bit rusty, nothing a few posts can’t fix.

It is interesting that no one else in the division is ranked higher than 20th.

I always had the feeling that the DBacks organization was good given the amount of young talent on the ML roster. But I guess those guys have already graduated and don’t count.
I think not just the draft but what he does (and does not do) by the trade line will be huge.
First the first time in several years Sabean has some pieces that other teams might want that would not crippling tothe team in the long term if they move them. (I place Molina, Winn, Lewis and possibly Sanchez and Nate into this category.) Which of these he moves and what he gets back will be extremely telling not just on what his governing mind set it but the state of the franchises player evaluation skills.
R. Ortiz is not the Run Dingerz.exe we are looking for.
stop trading Fred right now mister!

I know I have been occasionally known to set the fox loose in the hen house just to watch the fur, feathers & crap fly but consider…
What if in the next 12-16 weeks the Tigers decide they need to shed payroll and offer say Cabrera ( and over $65M due on his contract) but Lewis or Sanchez is part of the price? Or The Blue Jays decide they need out from under the $107M they owe Vernon Wells but Lewis or Sanchez is part of the price? Are you going to tell me that the team should turn away just because Lewis or Sanchez is mentioned?
R. Ortiz is not the Run Dingerz.exe we are looking for.
We’d prolly have to take on Willis in the MCab deal, and I’m not really a fan of Wells with his contract.
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
Valid points. I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking of possible candidates with large commitments, under 30 and currently on teams with say over $100M payroll but may very well be out of a playoff race by July. IF I had maybe Rios gets mentioned. But any ways you get my drift, for the right young talent Lewis or Sanchez would be on the table.

I think
I’m going to tell you that the team should turn away just because Lewis or Sanchez is mentioned. At least for Wells, that is. Cabrera definitely yes, but that wouldn’t happen in even the craziest of acid trips.
But you are telling me the team should turn away because of the player on coming in more than the player going out and that is my point.
Wells and Cabrara were names quickly out of my nether regions that are relitively young, owed a lot of money and are currently on teams paying over $100M that could be out fo th play off by July.
As an aside I do think this is the year MLB sees a trade similar to the McGriff goes to the Braves. It probably won’t benefit the Giants (Hey we are the Giants after all) but I think conditions are such that it is going to happen.

Whoever the Giants pick in the first round, it’s safe to say there will be a freakout about it among the McCoven.

Adopted Giant: Fred "Ruthless Aggression" Lewis
Not just a pitcher – imagine the quickness of those throws from center field.
Note To Cookyman: I’m suggesting Strasburg also does time in center field.

I'd complain
Boras wants $50 million for the kid? What a joke. Let the Nats take him… Nolan Ryan couldn’t save them anyway
Wall-E for Best Picture 2008
He’s not going to get $50 million. He’s also, most likely, MLB ready right now so the ROI is instant.

Posey got like a third of his pre-draft demand.

That’s because he fell to the fifth pick. If he goes 1 overall to Washington, he’ll get close to his demand. The Nats are going to be under tremendous pressure when the draft rolls around
Wall-E for Best Picture 2008
Nah
It doesn’t work like that. Posey still got the most money out of everyone in the draft, pre Boras shenanigans. It’s just basic bargaining. Start higher (or lower depending on which side you’re on) than you want and then “settle”.

There’s no reason for him to think there is. His clients didn’t take pay cuts this year.

what do you mean he got the most money “pre-Boras shenanigans”? He got more money even before he got money?

Alveraz, backed out of his contract after Posey signed wanting more money, and he got it
