another lineup shakeup
I guess today is as good a day as any for another lineup shakeup. I haven't seen anything written on it yet, so who knows if it's a temporary thing or a big change:
Here it is according to Yahoo:
1: Lewis
2: Burriss
3: Winn
4: Molina
5: Rowand
6: Sandoval
7: Ishikawa
8: Renteria
Interesting to at least see Fred Lewis and Aaron Rowand moving up in the order.
Hey, you know what, that's still a terrible lineup.

Oh, well
(vaguely literate reference to deck chairs and the Titanic, followed by a witty observation on the vicissitudes of life, ending with a jeremiad against Brian Sabean)
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
I stilll scratch my head every time I see a manager insist on batting one of his worst hitters 2nd.
I understand (though I don’t agree) why they want to “save” their best hitters to bat 3/4, but just can’t understand the desire to bat a should-be #8 hitter in the 2-hole.

Burriss at #2 is alright with me. His lack of power plays well there and he’ll see better pitches than in the #8 hole. He’ll also be better drawing a walk there instead of feeling pressure to get a hit with the pitcher up next. If Winn fails to get on and Burriss reaches base, his ability to steal bases is like having another leadoff man.

add to that the fact that the Giants’ need every run they can get, so there will be innings when Lewis gets on base, steals second and then Manny is used to bunt him to third. Normally I would hate this playing for a one run inning, but that’s one more than this team will usually get. Which begs two questions.
1. How much did Orlando Hudson sign for?
2. How many homeruns did Manny hit on Saturday while Timmy was pitching eight scoreless innings to get a no decision?

theoretical question
If you make a salad out of wilty lettuce, rotten tomatoes, and rotten eggs, does it matter whether you put the eggs in first or last?

i hope this was just temporary
i like winn leading off and lewis in the three spot…

Lewis was hitting over .400 batting third. Why would you screw with that? He has one RBI. Is that his fault, or the fault of Winn, Renteria and Burriss for not getting on base in front of him? To me it’s a privilege to bat third, because that’s where you usually put your best hitter, and Winn was basically rewarded for his failure to set the table as a leadoff hitter. We had one real chance to win that game on Saturday for Timmy, and that was Winn batting with a runner on third and one out. What did he do? He struck out. The next day he gets put into the heart of the order. Only Bruce Bochy would use this logic.

thats sad
that 2 run constitutes as “the runs we put up yesterday”, but in this case it’s true. but winn and lewis both went 0-3 so switch them back, and keep the rest of the shakeup.

I think Sandoval moving down in the order might have been the best part of the shakeup. The extra pressure of batting 3rd or 5th on a kid with so few MLB ABs didn’t make sense.

I agree. However, when Pablo gets hot and Rowand grows cold, (both inevitable) Bochy needs to switch them back.

let's try it this way
6. Winn
9. Burriss
6. Lewis
7. Rowand
6. Molina
7. Sandoval
7. Ishikawa
8. Renteria

How soon before it stops being batting order shake-ups and just starts being the new night’s lineup? I don’t know why, but I can’t remember the last time the Giants had a lineup that was even remotely consistent over the course of so much as a couple weeks.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
I like Burriss second for the speed factor. Will he see better pitches with those mighty sluggers who follow him? Not sure.
With Renteria a non factor in the offense, when there is a fly ball pitcher out there (Cain) could put Velez at 2nd hitting 8, and Burriss at SS.
And as soon as Sandoval or Ishi improves, got to bat Molina #6 where he can not end the first inning with a double play.
