McCoven Night at Muni Stadium

First off I would like to thank delorean for putting this all together, and it was a pleasure to meet Giants Fan in Singapore, delorean, Walrus Man, and the Baroness. It was an entertaining night of great Single-A baseball, McCoven memes being blurted out (constantly) and shaking our fist in the air from checking in to the game in Chavez Latrine.

It was chilly night at Muni, but a lot of heat was thrown by Tim Alderson. Buster Posey decided to make it a show and end up a triple short of a cycle.

It was exciting for me to see AnVil live, and in person. I keep forgetting he is 18. But my goodness, his bat speed is fantastically quick. He made some great defensive plays as well (!?!).

Here are some pics I took. Sorry, as the night was coming in, the zoom on my point and shoot started acting up.

Kidding

Sounded like a lot of fun. I’m sure the rest of us wished we were there instead of watching Aurilia and Uribe bat in the same lineup or see Velez get put in a double switch.

Aye a fun day for all.

Thanks delorean for setting everything up. GFNLIS is heading to the game next Wednesday at 12:35 and I was thinking of going as well. Anyone else interested?

Alright longer post this time because I’m back from work. Observations.

-Buster Posey is awesome.
-Angel Villalona has an amazing swing. Pretty, smooth, powerful. And he’s pretty nimble within reason. He also made a nice play going down the line and reaching over the fence near the first base bleachers.
-Crawford made a nice backhand play.
-Darren Ford has an arm, but it seems very erratic. He threw one bullet to home but threw it about 5 feet above the height Posey could jump and another that wasn’t much of a throw.
-Kieschnick has an arm as well, and he’s a big boy. Not fat but big.
-I couldn’t get GFNLIS’s daughter to say she likes Rush yet, but persistence is key.

Kevin Frandsen should be with the big team.

I started enjoying the SF Giants game as soon as I was leaving the parking lot.

Bases loaded, Wilson walks it in. Looking at Gameday, it seems Big Skull left Howry in too long.

Looks like you all had a lot of fun, wish I could have made it. Although I’m not sure I could put with with both Tusks and delorean for a whole evening. :-P

Question for when I go to Brute’s game: Looks like the SJ lids are pretty popular Is wearing a SF cap cool if one doesn’t own a Little giants cap?

Like GFIS said below, quite a few people were wearing SF hats. Myself included.

Doesn’t matter really. You see more SF caps than SJ caps just because it’s more popular. I’m even wearing an SF jacket with my SJ cap. Support the Giants no matter what really.

Sure – we're all Giants fans.

I wore my SJ Giants game until it got too cold, then I switched to the SF Giants skull cap. Quite a few people are wearing SF Giants caps.

Thanks again to delorean for getting this game together

The seats were awesome, the game was great (until the Blaze started smacking Alderson’s pitches all over the place), but the company was the best of all. It was great to meet Walrus, delorean, BVCE (and younger brother), and Mike.

I didn’t realize wearing a scarf and skull cap would make my face look so fat – is that a wide-angle lens you’re using Mike (he he)?

For those of you who are on the fence for Brute’s game, don’t think, just go. SJ Giants games were always fun but this is a freakin’ All-star team out there. Buster looks like a major leaguer right now, Crawford is smooth at short and looks good at the plate too, Angel’s got talent oozing out of his pores (with one of the quickest bats I’ve ever seen), and there are a whole bunch of other players who’re tons more fun to watch than the assorted nonsense the big league team is fielding now. Heck, it’s such an embarrassment of riches Thomas Neal was batting 9th last night! (His swing looks long though.)

And yes, I’m planning on going to next Wednesday’s game, a 12:35 p.m. start. If the rotation stays true and Skeels continues with the six-man for this week then MadBum is scheduled for that game. Unfortunately I’ll be sitting in GA for this game though as I’ll be bringing the entire brood, but I’ll definitely stop by to say hello to anyone who attends. I’ll probably wear my Natto-designed Cain T-shirt.

…but watching the SJ All-Stars is off-the-charts fun. This is a good team that plays hard. Words cannot describe how much fun my daughter and I had last night.

It was great to meet Walrus Man, Giant Fan in Singapore (and the little one), and SofaKing Mike. Good eats, good people, good baseball. It was, as they say on the intertubes, FTW.

Oh and we’re as nerdy in person as we are here. It’s good when you find yourself among other incurable nerds in real life.

A Totally Shallow Observation

but I must say I like the two-color look on those uniforms: just black and white, no additional color for the outlines of the numbers and letters, et al. Very Penn State. This would be a good wave for the future of unis (less is more).
