I did orzo stuffed bell peppers and marinated ahi tuna steaks. I’m obsessed with bell peppers right now. I want to grow my own hybrids in ivory, lilac, and chocolate sweet peppers. We’re going to start a garden in the backyard and do the peppers, tomatoes, and some zucchini.

If you choose your location carefully and take good care of them you can have peppers and tomatoes all winter long. I just pulled out a cherry tomato plant that finally croaked after 2 years of yummy ’matoes. The serano chili plant is going on 3 years now, and the bell pepper is 2. We cover them in extreme heat and cold.
We also have mint, oregano, lavendar, rosemary, and marjoram growing, tho I’m not sure what exactly marjoram is good for.
This year I’m trying to grow cucumbers and sno-peas again, they’ve been epic fail the past few years.
I bet your backyard smells amazing. We pulled some mint off the plant out back and the whole kitchen smelled delicious just from the handful of mint.

depends on where you are in the bay. east of the tunnel, you can only grow them indoors after the first freeze, and until sometime in feb usually. east of the tunnel (and most of the more maritime parts of the bay), you’ll need to locate them in an area where they can get a ton of sun, since both require a lot of heat to produce fruit well. It is usually difficult to get prime fruit in the winter, even if you have a great location in an area that doesn’t freeze.

The snow peas I tried growing from seed in the shade, they suffered from failure to thrive. Last year I did the cukes from seeds, this year I used seedlings. So far they haven’t croaked.
We have some funky soil in the back yard. It was absolutely dead when we moved in here 4 years ago. Now at least there are signs of things like worms and “roly-polies.” It’s still difficult to get things to grow, even some stuff that usually grows like crazy, like marigolds. Tomatoes and spider plants grow well in the soil, but most of my herbs are in pots/planters.
yeah the shade’ll do that to the snow peas. If you can, try to grow them somewhere with full morning sun, but afternoon shade. The cucumbers should do fine. They were likely either shaded out, or the ground was too wet and they rotted, last year.
To save water, and improve your soil, try to pick up some construction hay(the cheapest) and use it as a mulch. The earthworms will get it over time.

Adopted Giant: Fred "Ruthless Aggression" Lewis
orzo stuffed peppers
* 1 28-ounce can of Italian whole tomatoes
* 2 medium zucchini
* 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
* 1/2 cup fresh grated Pecorino Romano cheese, plus more for garnish
* 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
* 3 garlic cloves, minced
* 1 tsp salt
* 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
* 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
* 1 1/2 cup orzo
* 6 large sweet bell peppers (red and yellow ones) cut off the tops and devein them and if necessary cut a sliver off the bottoms so they will stand up
* 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil for garnish
* OPTIONAL: Add in some sausage meat, cooked, to the orzo mixture
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2. Pour the tomatoes and their juices into a large bowl and break them up with your fingers or a spoon.
3. Add the grated zucchini, mint, cheese, olive oil, salt, and pepper and stir to combine.
4. Meanwhile, bring the broth to a boil in a saucepan.
5. When it boils add the orzo and cook 4 minutes only to be partially cooked.
6. Drain the orzo through a sieve and bowl and save the broth.
7. Mix the orzo into the bowl with the mixed up vegetables.
8. Pour the reserved broth into a 3 quart baking dish.
9. Fill each pepper with the zucchini orzo mix and place in the dish with the broth.
10. Cover the dish with foil when all are prepared and place in the oven for 45 minutes
11. After 45 minutes of baking remove the foil and sprinkle extra cheese atop the peppers and bake another fifteen minutes.
12. When done garnish with cut up basil.

I was watching a Mets broadcast when Vinny Castilla was playing for the other team. Castilla had been in the league for YEARS at this point, but one announcer called him “Castillo” and the other pronounced it “Cast-uh-lee-uh.”

Random guess: Craig Whitaker has a really good season or two for an MLB club that isn’t the Giants. Maybe in 2019 or something.
I don’t think so. His fastball had movement, and his slider had bite. I wasn’t expecting much, so I was surprised. Maybe this reliever thing suits him.

yeah he had a cup of tea in AA in 07. He’s got good stuff (he was a sandwich pick, afterall). Hopefully the relieving works out for him.
Why is Broshuis back in A ball as a reliever? He had a good year at AA last year as a starter…

If big v keeps hitting like this, should they keep him in SJ for the whole year, or bring him up to AA with alderson and posey (if posey isn’t getting the aaa treatment as some suspect)?

Excellent point
Angel Villalona hasn’t shown much plate discipline yet. If he improves his plate discipline, he’ll hit (even) better, which will lead to his being pitched to more carefully, which will lead to his drawing some walks.
Angel is my favorite position player on the SJ Giants, but several of his hits this season have been bloops, and his homer last night was somewhat wind-aided.
the promotion from aa the year after high a is the cabrera track, i do believe…. No rush, of course. But if he’s hitting…
