Trying to find a silver lining

Going into the season, there was a part of me that hoped the 2009 Giants would be like the 2007 Devil Rays – a team that was bad, and got the first overall draft pick, but then broke out all at once the next year. Now, the first half of that equation is looking more likely!

Yes to all. While I’m not allowed to make fun of Alex Smith, nor do I want to (this year’s the year!), even I can admit that it was a bad year to have the #1 pick.

From a True Blue LA FanPost:

And I hate the giants for being so stupid as to build a hitters ballpark with a dorky corporate name and then put all there eggs into the pitching basket. I ’m not sure if its rationale to hate them for that since I want them to loose every game of the season, but I do.

I think that might need to go on a t-shirt.

In the DVD commentary for that episode, they mention the other players thought it was really funny that they wrote Darryl Strawberry as the goody two shoes. And that they originally wrote Jose Canseco in an unsavory light, but he objected so they rewrote it to have him rescuing a family and all their furniture from a burning house.

They did get at least one characterization right: as we all know Steve Sax really is responsible for every unsolved murder to ever occur in New York City.

Car Metaphor

I view picking my baseball team this season as the same experience as purchasing my first new car. Sure I had an old clunker before (The Rockies) but I never really embraced it, and was glad to be rid of it.

But here I went out and purchased my own car, and I was excited. I actually had a reason to like driving again and at first it started out excellent. Now I’m starting to think you guys sold me a clunker:

(Just kidding. I’m hoked, but I just came from a sport where my team took 3rd to last though so I’d like to see this team win some.)

Team slumping, no walks, few wins. Maybe drop Edgardo Renteria down from the 2-hole and move Lewis up. Strike while the fire is hot and move Rowand up. Maybe sit an infielder for a game.
