Most important part: "The extension includes an agreement to expand the postgame show. For weekday home night games, play-by-play man Dave Flemming will take over hosting duties from Damon Bruce, whose reactionary, aggressive style has not been popular among some players and club officials."

Yay! Flemming! No more Damon Bruce!

Note the “For weekday home night games”. Bruce will still do post game after night road games.

While I’m no fan of Damon Bruce, and I do like Dave Flemming, it seems to me that the Giants’ are looking for a more homeristic post game show. I don’t want to hear about how good Barry Zito looks after he loses twelve in a row!

Yes, but Intelligence and Reason scream at the sound of Bruce.

(and in any case, the giants broadcasters aren’t that homeristic, even when it comes to zito)

Good for David B. Flemming

Not a fan of Damon Bruce. I am however a intrigued by Robert the Bruce

we’ll see. Flem taking phone calls from irate or exuberant callers should be interesting. at least he is a fan of the team, unlike Bruce.

Maybe having someone like Bruce is good though. In some way, that I just can’t think of right now…

Just wait until Flemming takes a call from someone named “Salty Balty”. He may run for the hills and Damon Bruce would return.

sometimes damon is dumb, but i’m not sure i just want more of the company line after games.

sometimes? When has he ever said something particularly intelligent, or at least interesting? He’s both opinionated, and rather ignorant of the sports he talks of: that is a horrible combination!

I can't stand Damon Bruce

But I can’t stand even more the Giants dictating the manner in which they are covered by the media. Even if (actually, especially since) they’ve got an incestuous ownership relationship going.

See with Bruce it’s more the anti-female, women’s sports stance that he so pathetically expounds – or expounded, I haven’t listened to him since.

If you don’t like women’s sports fine, but you don’t have to go on a 15 minute tirade against them, or yell rudely at callers who want to call in and talk about them. I think it was last year that the Stanford women were doing so well in the NCAA basketball tournament and someone called wanting to talk about it, and he was overwhelmingly obnoxious and rude to them.

If you don’t like to watch women’s sports fine: don’t watch. And don’t bad mouth something that keeps lots of kids out of trouble and also provides some with a college education.

I also recall him saying something once along the lines of how women should bring the men beer and food and then just go watch figure skating and let the men watch the game. Maybe it’s an act, but it’s an act that belongs in Alabama, not San Francisco.

/end rant

Agreed. He didn’t endear himself to me with anything he did and his Neanderthal attitude got old fast. After the wives softball game thing that got him banned from the clubhouse, I didn’t see him lasting that long on KNBR anyway.

There are callers who want to talk about women's sports?

Are you sure they weren’t just trying to get a rise out of him? I don’t think I’ve ever heard women’s sports brought up by a caller.

The Stanford incident that I remember was some Stanford student calling. He was all excited about the game coming up that week, or the next day or whatever. He wasn’t being antagonistic just really enthusiastic about his school getting so far in the tournament. I think it was the last year that Candace wuzzername played? [I don’t follow basketball men’s or women’s.] Bruce’s attitude was just annoying.

Anyone else notice what else Baggs wrote? The planned rotating trio of Sabes, Neukom and Baer on the Razor & Mr. T show has now been reduced to Neukom and Baer, with Sabean making “occasional” appearances. That’s Sabespeak for “I can only tolerate listening to Ralph’s long, whiny questions once in a blue moon.”

this bothers me a little...

you’re the gm of a professional baseball team. you have one of the coolest jobs in the world. you should be able to tolerate the local idiots in the media— they’re still your conduit to the fans, regardless of how dumb they ay sometimes be.

I agree, somewhat

All jokes about Ralph and Damon aside, it would be nice if the Giants front office weren’t so (apparently) thin-skinned when it comes to criticism—Larry Krueger, who was more knowledgable about baseball in general and the Giants in particular than anyone on the station before or since, was undone by one very poorly chosen phrase. Although, sadly, pro teams that partially or fully own their media outlets to help control the message…that’s par for the course.

Particularly since the criticism in the bay area is so sparse.

relative to the east coast and midwest, at any rate.

Sabes and Ralph is better than than the dinner party episode of “The Office.”

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.
