It looked like has threw a change up, too, the pitch that struck out Ramirez.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Madison Bumgarner, at 19 the Giants’ top pitching prospect, just struck out Manny Ramirez on three pitches. Ramirez hit the first two foul then swung ahead of some kind of offspeed pitch, maybe a changeup.
UPDATE: After coming out of the game, Ramirez praised Bumgarner, saying, “He’s great. He’s nasty. Nineteen? Wow. That’s unbelievable. He’s great. Good fastball, good curveball and sneaky. He throws hard.”
It might be a curveball, but Manny may have been referring to Pierre’s AB, which was clearly a curve.

Ramirez completely missed the pitch, so it’s also possible that he’s just wrong. It didn’t look like the pitch that got Pierre out, and it seemed like it tailed away from Ramirez, like a change up should.

It looked like a change to me, but my eye is pretty untrained.

Oh, God that was hot. I was gonna mention that curve on Pierre was nasty. Holm was right though, his fastball just seems to jump off his hand. You can see it well from that angle.

I was going to say the same thing, especailly on the first fastball to Manny. His pitches look like they’re hard to pick up out of his hand. For a power pitcher, his effortless windup makes the pitch look that much faster.

I was thinking the same
Is that a product of this being a spring training game or does he work this fast? It seemed Manny stepped out a lot (and stayed out) to consciously slow the kid down.
Beyond that, what a beautiful pitching motion.

Damn , I could have been there.
Instead I took a day off from my temp job to see about a REAL job…ate at Filiberto’s (Mex takeout joint – remember my warning?) and suffered the rest of the day. To top it off they fired me for taking the day off.
Upside? I now have time to watch MLB – TV!

His stature and delivery sort of reminds me of Randy Johnson. He’s obviously tall and lanky, and that almost-sidearm delivery looks tricky
