Day Job Lyrics
Artist(Band):Grateful Dead
Review The Song (0)
Print the Lyrics

Send “Day Job” Ringtones to Cell

Maybe you collect or maybe you pay (whether)
Still got to work that eight hour day
Whether you like that job or not
You’d better keep it on ice while you’re lining up your long shot

Which is to say, hey hey, keep your day job
Don’t give it away, keep your day job, whatever they say
Keep your day job ’till your night job pays.

Steady boys starting that eight day hour
Never underrate that paycheck power
By now you know that the face on your dollar
Got a thumb on its nose and a hand on your collar
With a chance to say, hey hey, keep your day job….

Daddy may drive a V-8 ‘Vette
Mama may bathe in champagne yet
God bless the child that’s got his own stash
Nine to five and a place to crash
which is to say…
Sunday comes forget about work, Ring that bell for whatever it’s worth.
If you ask me like I know you won’t
I’ll tell you what to do what I know that you won’t.

Haha, I guess the only way I can see it is if one really sucks, which then he shouldn’t drum, or if it’s a benifit concert with multiple bands. Like when Ringo was drumming with Jim Keltner. But even then they were playing the same part.

If two drummers on a kit are playing different parts, just simplify it so one drummer can play that! Or get a giant drum kit and play it yourself!

If two drummers on a kit are playing different parts, just simplify it so one drummer can play that! Or get a giant drum kit and play it yourself!

This is like that silly special tuning argument we had a few months ago. All that matters is the result. If a song sounds good, I don’t care if it has three drummers or a drumming machine, if it were recorded live or with overdubbing, with “real” instruments or with synthesizers, etc. If it’s a good song, I don’t care. Red is a good song, and a fantastic album.

Your KC hating makes me sad.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

by Cookyman on Apr 1, 2009 12:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I care if it had a drumming machine. Because then it sounds terrible. There’s no feel to the drums, it’s just the exactingmost of the exact cymbal and drum hits.

I’m not really hating on them, I’m just saying.

And I don’t think the special tuning argument was me.

the ironic twist is

ALL drum tracks are processed these days. everything’s clicked and quantized and drumagogged. the “no feel” argument is as bogus as the standard tuning argument is.

the song’s the thing. if it moves you, it moves you. if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

Some people don’t know how to place commas. For example, they’ll right something like this:

“I’m dumb ,I put commas after the space.”

or:

“I’m not quite as dumb , but I still I add a space that’s not necessary.”

Then there are the REALLY dumb people who don’t like the difference between commas and apostrophes:

“It,s really stupid looking when I write like this.”

When I landed here I crowded my commas.

You gentle folk straightened me out , but if I hang the comma immediately after the last letter – then add a space – it just looks unbalanced to me.

To call folks “dumb” for grammatical errors is way harsh. I used to mentally assassinate people who couldn’t spell well. Then I read a preface in Webster’s or somewhere that gave a brief history of the English language and its mutations and adaptations , then summed it up by basically saying that function trumps form.

I buy that.
If you dont…well , you’re just dumb.

I’m lousy at describing music, but I guess I’d say they’re non-wimpy singer-songwriter folk rock with a dash of indie rock and a dash of early-period Neil Young or Bob Dylan.

Your mention of Paul Simon in addition to more rock-ish bands brought them to mind.

I’m always on the look-out for more singer-songwriter type stuff. Pretty much the only ones I’ve really liked in that genre(that I’ve heard) is Paul Simon and Bob Dylan (okay, maybe John Meyer, a little). But I really like the genre when it is done well.

If this is a official Giants sponsored page, and this is their idea of a joke, it’s not cool and very disrespectful to a former player who, despite his foibles and current troubles, produced heavily for his team.

Just don’t do it on TrueBlueLA. Not worth the trouble just to mess with two people.

Or Gaslamp. That’d probably create a flame war.

I love this one

here

The Denver Broncos have the framework of a deal in place to trade disgruntled starting quarterback Jay Cutler to the 49ers, a source close to the team reports. The 49ers will reportedly send their first and third round pick in this year’s draft (10th and 43rd overall), their second round pick in the 2010 draft, aging safety Mark Roman, and former first overall pick Alex Smith

The funniest part:

Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner will no longer be using his trademark gloves on the field this season. When asked why he merely responded with, “God told me not to wear them.” No word from the team as to how this will affect his throwing motion.

lolol

2nd day in a row

we’re going to threaten the all-time posts in 2 days record. Or something. I think it’s time for some real baseball…

The best April Fool’s post ever was when Kenshin posted on the main page that Grant is quitting and he’s taking over. It got picked up on other blogs and stuff. Hilarious.
