Attn: Rush Fans
It seems the new movie 'I LOVE YOU, MAN' features McCC's most controversial band prominently, including a scene where the main characters (played by Paul Rudd and Jason Segel) attend a concert, and another where they belt out their own version of 'Limelight'. That track is also on the film's soundtrack, and you can hear it here.

Artie Lange does this great bit
I’ve heard him talk about it on the Howard Stern show a few times, when he auditioned for MadTV his audition bit was “Rush does Rush” where he recited some Rush songs in Rush Limbaugh’s voice. I haven’t been able to find a full version of this online, but here is just a little bit of it (begins at about 2:15), obviously some language that is not safe for work.

Jason Segel is not infallible, despite his role in Freaks and Geeks.

Okay then I might have to see this.
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

perhaps I am biased
as an ex-GF (who dumped me and then proceeded to hook up with my friend) REALLY liked rush. But I hate this friggin’ band with the fury of 1000 suns. Cut out the drum wanking and annoying synthesizers and give me the 3 minute song hidden under the self-satisfied “art”.

Yep he’s got a semi-deep voice. I’ve heard him on KFOX before and that’s actually something that Greg Kihn asked him.

I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed or not, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a single Rush song. I want to check them out now, is there a particular song or album I should start with?
by Norm Median on Mar 10, 2009 10:48 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Song: YYZ or La Villa Strangiato
Album: I’d stay away from 2112 or Moving Pictures (although this is the album that YYZ is on). Maybe “Hemispheres” would be a good place to start.

When it was released, it took me awhile to get into it. It seemed a bit too…I’m not sure how to put this…forced, I guess. As if it was a concept album for concept album’s sake.

Now with all that said, the live concert for 2112 was amazing.

That’s cool. I think it’s probably my favorite album, but Hemispheres is also really good.

I’d say 2112 is one of their best but for new people into Rush it might be a bit much.

Just wondering, why would it be too much? There’s a lot of prog-ery going on in the album, but I think it’s pretty straight forward as far as Rush goes. I know it’s a concept album, but I never felt it was overly concepty.
by xanthan on Mar 11, 2009 6:18 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, I’m kind of thinking off a bit, thinking of it as a complete song that would fill the side of an LP, but the more I think about it more there are “breaks” in between the “songs” during 2112. I guess it wouldn’t be as bad as I thought. I was just thinking of the 3-4 minute songs everyone is used to and typically a 15-20 minute song scares them.

The song “Roll the Bones.” Talk about an insane flow. Even MF Doom wouldn’t have thought to rhyme “facts” with “parallax.”

I’m not sure what others would say, but Test For Echo might be a good one to start at. It doesn’t have the long suites which sometimes turn people off and has some of the driving riffs and strange tempo changes that Rush is famous for.

I feel sad for you.
How could you really have been deprived of Rush this far into your life? But better late than never, I suppose.
I think it depends on what kind of music you prefer. Do you like radio music, with mostly hit, mainstream songs? I’d suggest 2112, it has some of the best Rush hits on there, with Limelight, Tom Sawyer, and YYZ. If you’re looking for more of a musical experience, I’d suggest Hemispheres, which is essentially a musical story.
