OT: Gints in Fantasy Draft

My fantasy draft is next week and like most of you here, getting Timmy, Cain, and Pablo would make my draft a fantasy come true.

For those who've already drafted, where did Timmy, Cain, and Pablo, and Ishikawa go in overall draft position (not round)? I'm kidding about Ishikawa.

I'm thinking I need to be around 15-19 with Timmy, about 110-120 with Cain, and Pablo is the real mystery. I can see him going as high as 120, even higher in a keeper league.

Who else do you like this year?

in a fantasy sense, i really like pablos multiple position eligibility. if you have pablo, her can cover days off and injuries or slumps by moving around, and the multiple positions allows you to take a gamble on someone you normally wouldnt stash on your roster.

i also think the top 4 starters are all going to be useful at various points during the year. i think its pretty damned encouraging that all 4 of our top starters could be in the top 10 in k’s for the year…

I’m a fanatic about this. Having three or four guys with multiple eligibility is how you prevent Dan Ortmeier on your team in deep leagues.

Unfortunately, Sandoval is below the 15-game requirement in my league for catcher.

15 team keeper league

In my keeper league, Lincecum went first round because he was one of my keepers.

Sandoval 8th round. As I said in another post, that was a pure grudge pick. I got Volquez that round and it pissed off one of the dudes in the league, so he got Pablo to get back at me.
Wilson 11th round
Molina 12th round
Johnson 14th round
Lewis 16th round (my pick)
Sanchez and Renteria 21st round
Winn 22nd round

Cain went around the tenth round, and Sandoval went eighth. It’s really sixth and fourth for those guys, as we do our keepers in the first four rounds. RJ went around the 16th (12th) round, Wilson went shortly after Cain, Molina was a late round pickup (I wanna say after the 20th round), Winn was also a late round pick, and I got Fred Lewis around the 16th round. I know Sanchez went somewhere but I do

Whoa that last paragraph was not supposed to be included. Though Cain went in the eighth round.

Sandoval’s ADP is something like 260! He’s probably a steal if he qualifies at catcher, unless you play with some savvy nerds or Giants fans.

I'm spent, just can't rosterbate anymore.

In the mock drafts, I’m seeing him go anywhere from 120-150. I’m targeting him for the 10th round in my 14 team keeper league (127-140), but I’m paranoid that he’ll go earlier than that since all the “experts” are hyping him. I wish they’d shut up and that Pablo would have a quiet spring.

And wherever I pick, if Lincecum is available in the second round, I’m taking him no matter what.

i’ve actually never been in a mock draft where he lasted that long

usually, as far as i’ve seen, he goes in the late first… sometimes he slips to the top of the second. basically, right around the time everyone is starting to feel kind of meh on the top, blue chip hitters, somebody decides he’d rather have his first choice of pitcher than his eighth or ninth choice of hitter, and that usually means it’s timmy time.

i’m huge into fantasy baseball and have done quite a few mock drafts this offseason and i have never seen him go in the first round. he really shouldnt. he’s also almost always the 2nd pitcher off the board after santana, which i agree with.

my rankings have timmy at #16:
1. Hanley Ramirez
2. Albert Pujols
3. Jose Reyes
4. David Wright
5. Grady Sizemore
6. Miguel Cabrera
7. Ryan Braun
8. Ryan Howard
9. Mark Teixeira
10. Josh Hamilton
11. Ian Kinsler
12. Chase Utley
13. Carlos Beltran
14. Matt Holliday
15. Johan Santana
16. Tim Lincecum

i think taking any lincecum over any of those hitters would be a major mistake, i can definitely see taking timmy ahead of santana for the upside, but santana is just a safer choice. some other players i’ve seen go ahead of timmy are rollins, upton, longoria, berkman, and fielder.

All though I’ve seen Timmy go as high as 10 on mock drafts…

Pablo anywhere between 90 and 120.

The only Giants I am targeting are Cain, Sanchez, Johnson and Sandy. I don’t pick pitchers that early, and I don’t like picking catchers early either, and I think all 4 of those Giants are undervalued.

I don’t pick Giants for my fantasy team.

If I do, they suck. Either that, or I’m drawing stupid conclusions from having had Russ Ortiz in 2001 and Kirk Rueter in whatever year he started to permanently suck.

Timmy went 8th in my league

so I settled for Utley. I got Pablo around pick 200. I picked Lewis off the heap.

Timmy went 4th overall in our draft.

First pitcher taken. Cain went at pick 80 and Pablo went at pick 92.

by BleacherEd on Mar 9, 2009 8:51 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I got the #1 overall pick, so I grabbed Timmy because I didn’t want to risk him not being there at #20. I always take the top pitchers (Santana, Webb, Hamels, C.C., Nathan, Soria) then fill in the offense around them. I’ve won my fantasy league two years in a row this way, though last year I picked up guys like Kemp, Votto, Gomez, C.Davis, Bruce, ect really, really low or in free agency. This year I’m not too sure that will happen. And I like Fred Lewis this year, avg., runs, a little pop, a lot of speed. I’ll grad him in the 24th round.

Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.
