Slingbox?
I call on the knowledgeable McCoven to lend me insight on the quality of watching baseball on Slingbox. As this is my first year in college, I am struggling with the idea of just gameday audio for the first 2 months of the season (even with the immortal duo of Jon and Flem). So, to all of you who have a slingbox or have seen a baseball game using one, what is the quality like and does it warrant spending the rest of my money to get one?

i don't have one...
however, my dad did for a long time while he was out in st. louis. It was usually a little slow (i.e. if you were listening to gameday audio and watching the slingbox feed, audio would usually be a minute or more ahead) and sometimes would freeze up. But overall, it was great. Just my opinion, but I think it’s a very solid investment if you have a tv you can hook it up to in the bay area. I plan on getting one for myself next year when I go away to grad school.

I had one when I went to college in LA. The one that I had was the non-HD one, the first generation. Like mentioned above, the feed will lag behind since it has to go from your TV through the internet to you computer (I think it was like a 10-15 second delay for me, usually) but it’s definitely watchable. If I had to chose between watching the games on a Slingbox or listening to Gameday audio, I would definitely chose the Slingbox. I’m sure if you get the HD one and you hook it up to an HD box, the picture quality will be really good.

I’m in Davis and get the games on TV but last year I chose to watch the games using Slingbox because I could watch it in my room instead of in the living room. Quality depends on your internet connection. I have a Slingbox in my parents’ house in SF using AT&T and that got pretty glitchy at times. I have another Slingbox in my apartment here in Davis using Comcast and the quality rivals that of my TV. I’d definitely recommend getting Slingbox; I personally can’t do with gameday audio alone, and you can use it for other things besides baseball. I mean, how else would I have been able to watch Dennis Richmond’s last broadcast on KTVU?!

Dennis Richmond left KTVU?! The hell you say! How did I not hear about this? There have to be 10 damn FanPosts about Manny Ramirez, but nobody can hook a brother up with a “OT: Dennis Richmond leaves KTVU” FanPost?

It happened a while ago. Do you want updates on everything that has ever happened? Because that might take a while.

“Do you want updates on everything that has ever happened?”
That would be pretty okay.
Seriously, McCC is my one-stop shop for world news, current events, entertainment reviews, classifieds, stock tips, and weather reports. Without it, I’d be hopelessly out of touch. You didn’t think I came here for Grant’s “writing”, did you?

A lifesaver. Don't think about buying it, buy it.
When I lived in Singapore I used it a lot to watch Giants games. It was slow the first year but some of the kinks must’ve been worked out and it’s pretty good now. I guess it all depends on how fast your internet speeds are too.

It’s nice to have, but don’t underestimate Gameday Audio, it’s amazing. Slingbox is great too, but make sure you have a good upload speed on your home connection. I had trouble because the internet I had at home was not the greatest . I’d only get in the 150kbps range sometimes and it freezing. Depending on what else you’re using it for, perhaps it’s just better to order mlb.tv instead.

Love mine ... but like he said.
I have been out of the States for a few years. That thing has saved my life. When I was in Korea, the MLB online package was blocked. Now that I am in England, I can get the MLB package online. So far, so good. The picture quality is better. I also get more games than on Direct TV & Sling Box. I don’t know what your blackout situation looks like, but for me, and for baseball, the MLB deal is better.
