Open Gameday Thread, 3/24

A win puts the team over .500 for the spring, and the Giants send proven non-winner Matt Cain to the hill for this must-win game. Just great.* Fun fact of the day: the Giants lead the majors in spring runs allowed.**

* If you are new to this site, please note that the "proven non-winner" jab was sarcasm. Matt Cain is fantastic.

I think a lot of the reason they didn’t go after CC full-heartedly is that they have a solid pitching staff already, not just for financial reasons. That post is horribly depressing
In last night’s game, Fred Lewis hit a home run in the 7th inning. That’s usually a minor footnote but that home run snapped a 12 game team homerless streak that stretched from July 23rd to August 4th.
~ Since 2000, it’s the second longest homerless streak of any major league team. In 2007, a light hitting Angels team went 14 games without a home run.
~ Over those 12 games in which the Giants didn’t hit any home runs, the numbers work out to: 392 AB7, 31 R, 98 H, 14 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 29 RBI, 76 SO, 15 BB, 12 SB, 6 CS. That translates to a batting line of: (.250/.285/.291)
The Giants team leaders in HR are as follows:

1. John Bowker 9
2. Aaron Rowand 9
3. Rich Aurilia 8
4. Fred Lewis 8
5. Bengie Molina 8

The race to double digits continues. marcello’s note: this was in JUNE

OK, I will be the pointman for MCC Nite at San Jose Yard. Have a couple of questions for those that will be attending?

1. Do you prefer a Madison Bumgarner start or day of the week?
2. Weekday or weekend?
3. Is the weekend of Thursday April 9 – Sunday April 12 good?

Any suggestions appreciated.

There’s a joke about getting your red wings in there.

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

Defensive indifference

One of my favorite scorer’s terms. Does the shortstop have to actually say “Meh” or can he just think it?

I would totally say “meh” if I were a player. I would say it a lot during interviews. And I would make Rush references. And say 109 a bunch!

He doesn't look indifferent.

That looks more like defensive angst to me.

Uhh, Wilson? In all your canyon throwing did you ever breadk to do some reading and find out that allowing baserunners is looked down upon as a relief pitcher?

by scout6 on Mar 24, 2009 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

Wilson can't pitch unless he has a chance to lose.

Bring him in with a five run lead, he has to let at least one run score…
