Four more cuts
Scott McClain and Jackson Williams were reassigned to the minor league camp, while Waldis Joaquin and Billy Sadler were optioned to AAA.
Not exactly stunning developments, but worth passing along. Wilriv will have to wait for his dream of Jacks Williams to come true.

A good room mate when you live in an apartment. I’m going to wait until I’m in a house and have time to properly raise my german shepherd.
I will train him/her to attack Dodger fans. And any one from L.A. just for good measure.

DS9 was really good, but TNG remains my favorite. It had the best episodes of any Star Trek show – “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” “The Best of Both Worlds,” and “The Inner Light” – and the two best characters – Picard and Data. Plus, it had by far the best series finale of any Star Trek show.

Also Crusher/Picard is totally my ship. I love all the episodes with them and hints of their romance. Attached is probably my favorite Crusher/Picard ep.

Agreed. I’m not a ST fan by any means, but I’ve always liked TNG because of the characters. Picard is a badass and Data is my favorite character on the show. I found the show really interesting. I’m a fan of sci-fi but I never really got into ST much.
The Sci-fi Channel has been running TNG episodes lately and I’ve been DVR’ing them. Awesome.
If you haven’t, I would recommend giving DS9 a try. The first season was uneven (as is the case in every Star Trek series – although in TOS, the first season was probably the best), but it got quite good after that. Although I never thought Avery Brooks was a very good actor.

However, Voyager = the worst Star Trek ever. I could go on for a long time about how badly mangled that show was. Ugh.

Voyager was pretty crappy but the Doctor was great.

Yeah, he really deserved a better show.
Seven of Nine was sometimes a good character. She had good chemistry with the Doctor. A lot of times, though, she was just used as T&A, and there were about a thousand episodes where the ship encountered seemingly insurmountable problems, only to discover that extracting nanoprobes from her bloodstream would magically solve everything. It was a magic bullet that got really overused, and also just really lazy writing.
The main thing that drove me crazy about Voyager, though, is that there were never any consequences for anything. They’re supposed to be this ship that’s all alone with no friends and no help, and yet every episode they get shot up and yet the ship is still fine, everything works, and there’s no damage. It’s a ship with a small crew and no replacements, and people keep getting killed yet they’re never shortstaffed, and even to the end of the second season we kept seeing crewmembers who’d never appeared before.

The poor writing is what got to me too. It’s why I usually stay away from sci-fi and fantasy. I find most writers don’t get that there has to be plausibility and limitations to the things that happen. Even in space, even in worlds with dragons and magic spells. Voyager ignored that and it drove me nuts.

Maybe you’ve been reading the wrong writers!
There’s some really bad writing in the genre. But there are also some pretty amazing writers. There are also some who weren’t necessarily great stylists but who did some amazing stuff in their work so you can look past the iffy writing (Philip K. Dick, I’m looking at you).

Speaking of PKD, I picked up The Man in the High Castle a couple of months ago. I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, but I’m looking forward to it.
I’m probably going to start it after I finish the Dawkins (God Delusion) and Stephin King (Just After Sunset) books I’m reading.
Stuff I would recommend, by the way, includes anything by Ursula K. LeGuin, Dan Simmons’s Hyperion Cantos series, Maureen F. McHugh’s China Mountain Zhang, most anything by Arthur C. Clarke, and A Canticle for Liebowitz by Walter Miller. Also, Samuel R. Delany if you don’t mind a bit of postmodernism and a bit of smut (which I know you don’t).

Unfortunately, my roommate in college loved Star Trek, therefore I hate ST. He watch ST in between Sponge Bob, Wonder Pets, and some other crap show. Unfortunately for me he had a light load of coarse work (we had the same major but I had a B.S. he had a B.A. plus I lost a year of classes when I transferred) so he always had control of the TV. Thank god that he at least liked Top Gear.
In short I don’t think I could ever watch any ST with out getting pissed off.

I’ll look into it. I think I’ve seen maybe 2 episodes of DS9 in my life.
What happened to the ST show with Scott Bakula?
Yeah, it was cancelled after four seasons.
It was really, really bad the first two seasons. It started to improve in seasons three and four, but by that point and after how bad Voyager was, the audience had pretty much given up.

Clearly you are misguided. DS9 was the best ST series. Gul Dukat was easily the best ST villain ever, and Garak was possibly the best ST character ever. The Founders were a far more plausible Big Bad than the Borg.
Yes, I’m a fanboi… I even took a hack at making a bbref-style player page for Buck Bokai.

Oh, Garak is one of my favorites, absolutely. Gul Dukat was great until they had him go crazy and he started worshipping the paugh-wraiths. At that point, he just got a little silly.
