Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Please forgive me in advance for this

Dear Diary,

It is now officially Spring.  The equinox has come and gone.  The clocks have been changed.  I am on Spring break for the next two weeks.  Blossoms are on the trees.  The weather is getting warmer.  Spring training is here.

And I am itching for baseball.  I am ready for games that mean something.

This year has been kind of tough.  Being a first year teacher is tough.  The school district I am in is pretty messed up.  The kids, the administrations, the district office, all of it.  And then there is the uncertainty of where I will be working next school year.

And so, with two weeks off I am ready to watch Lincecum and Cain and Sanchez throw again.  I am ready to see Randy Johnson in a Giants uniform.  I am ready to see Sandoval hit again.  I am ready to see Ishikawa and Bowker and Frandsen and Lewis try and make something of themselves.  I am ready to see Rowand miss the cutoff man.  I am ready to bitch about Bochy's stupid veteran fetish.  I am ready to marvel at Molina's incredible sloth-like baserunning.

I am ready for the stream of non-sense of gameday threads.

But I will not get real baseball during spring break.  For some stupid reason, the baseball season does not start until April 5th this year.  The Giants do not play until April freakin' 7th (or the second day back from Spring break).  Whose genius idea was this?  The playoffs already darn near go into November as it is.  Now they are probably going into mid-November.

I feel I am pretty safe to say that I speak for pretty much all baseball fans when I say "We don't need to wait an extra freakin' week for baseball.  Go back to the way it was.  Baseball is supposed to start at the beginning of April.  Whoever was responsible for this (probably Bud), you have just made all of our lives that much bleaker for one more week.  Thanks."*

*  The preceding rant was purely self-indulgent and meaningless.  Of course, if the season starts a week later, it just means that the season will go a week longer at the end.  So this is simply thehavenot expressing his bitter, bitter disappointment at not being able to participate in gameday threads and watching real baseball for a whole extra week, at which point he will be working again.

last year they had some superfan thing which gave extra features. I haven’t seen it offered this year. Are they doing it for free this time or was it eliminated? Does anybody know? I guess I could call them, but if someone would save me the trouble that would be nice.

It looks like they included everything into one package this year. The extra channel with the 8 different games going on looks to be included as well as all the HD games.

I like this time of the year

While I hate spring training, I do like this time of the year. The NCAA tournament leads right into the beginning of the baseball season.

On a side note: how did everyone do in their bracket? I’m not doing well other then to say I have a better bracket then President Obama (who is about 50% or so on his ESPN picks).

by SFGuy on Mar 22, 2009 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

the best thing about this time of season is that you can blow an 8-0 lead and just shrug your shoulders. If that happens in the regular season, I wouldn’t sleep a wink and I would be in a horrible mood until the first pitch of the next game.

but all my elite 8 teams are alive. I think I’m in 2nd right now in the McCoven group. I didn’t have Arizona (thought they’d fall to Wake, way to go Deacs), Kansas (ditto, west virginia), and Xavier (ditto, Florida State). So I went out on a limb a little with WVU and FSU and it came back to bite me. The games I’m worried about in the next round are: Vill vs Duke, I picked Vill to go to the final 4, Syracuse vs. Oklahoma, I picked the Orange, and MSU vs Kansas, I’ve got the Spartans.

With the way things have been lately you’d think itd be mandated baseball start sooner rather than later. There is something amazing and magical about baseball. Heck its the only thing in the world where you can do something 3 out of 10 times and be considered real good, or somehow do it 4 out of 10 and be legendary. Forgive me for stealing that from a crappy movie but it matches my mood.

Bud Selig did this to fuck me over

I always take off from work on Giants’ Opening Day and by making it on a Tuesday April 7th, he purposely scheduled it for the day before we have our inventory for the year. I can’t take that day off because we have to prepare and they’ll be big shots in the store so I can’t watch the game on my cell phone with my slingbox. Normally I would TIVO and watch it when I get home at 9pm, but Opening Day is too exciting for me and wondering what is happening is excruciating. I have XM radio, but I don’t want my supervisors to know that I have a satellite radio hookup in their precious store. What a dilemma!
