Giants v. Brewers on KNBR. Jonathan Sanchez is back. If he doesn't pitch a complete game, I will blame the World Baseball Classic for monkeying around with his stamina.

I have to run some errands today that includes picking up Pokemon Platinum (!!!!!!!!!!!) There’s 1:21 left in this Syracuse/ASU game and then I’m out. I hope to return in time for the Return of Sanchez.

Lunch talk
I got a lamb naan wrap from the farmers’ market.
Currently, I’m cooking crispy-skin pomfret, which will be for dinner, along with approximately 20,000 other dishes.

I was at work, usually I just buy a box of them and keep them in the freezer there. Then I just heat some up on my lunch. Tonight will be some chicken marinated in some mango lime sauce.

Four (4) Open Roster Spots
D Roberts
K Yabu
N Lowry
L Perdomo
Well the Perdomo roster spot is a guess that Giants brass returns Rule 5 guy back to Cardinals.
Who fills those spots?
a) Aurilia
b) Guzman
c) Medders
d) Miller
e) Torres
f) Uribe
Line-up
Winn, RF .196
Renteria, SS .234
Lewis, LF .316
Molina, B, C .262
Sandoval, P, 3B .455
Ishikawa, 1B 0 .314
Rowand, CF .205
Frandsen, 2B .315
Sanchez, P
Possible opening day line-up?

With their pitching and solid core of young talent they could contend if they ever prioritize defense
If they ever get to a point of retaining some of their young players that franchise could be a monster. However I don’t ever see that happening with their current owner.

believe they finally got approval on a downtown stadium (near the arena) which should provide for decent crowds. Miami can support a team.

Could bode well for Giants?
Gavin Floyd signs extension with White Sox. Maybe this bodes well for the Giants efforts to sign Lincecum at reasonable dollars.
Relax Flem
while Sanchez has only thrown a few innings his pitch count has already reached 63 in real game conditions. Today the Giants brass hopes to extend him to 80 pitches
aurillia
does the play of frandsen, burress and guzman make aurillia expendable finally ?
Lewis had an OPS+ of 105 last year – a figure surpassed by White only surpassed five times in 17 seasons. And three of those times he surpassed it by only a couple of points.
Never has a poster been more correct in the history of the internet. Ever! - ResDog on yours truly
Yeah, Devon White was a fine defensive center fielder. But you were comparing them as hitters, I thought. I’d love to see Lewis match WHite’s glove.
Never has a poster been more correct in the history of the internet. Ever! - ResDog on yours truly
My point is, as a hitter Devon White seems like a low standard for Lewis to reach. Last year, Lewis already surpassed White in batting average (.282 to White’s career .263), OBP (.351 to White’s .319), AND SLG (.440 to White’s .419).
Of course, comparing one season to a long career isn’t quite fair, but even in his best seasons, White was barely a better hitter than Lewis already is.

Awesome commentary and inisght from J.T.
The Giants have a great approach, which is to hit the ball hard and take singles and doubles.
Never has a poster been more correct in the history of the internet. Ever! - ResDog on yours truly
J.T. just claimed defense wins more games than offense
I’m not sure what the number crunchers are saying these days, but that strikes me as kind of dubious.
Never has a poster been more correct in the history of the internet. Ever! - ResDog on yours truly
If by defense he means pitching and defense, than I think I agree with him. If he means just defense, then yeah, that’s kind of weird.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
If I recall, it was in the context of Ishikawa’s defense, and how you can tell he’s a good first baseman because he’s not afraid to dive and leave his feet. Or maybe it came when he was talking about how having good defense up the middle makes your pitching better. If the second, I suppose you could interpret it that way.

Maybe he’s taking that “Bat plays well at (position) thing” a bit too far.

I get the feeling Ishi is going to be a hot or cold kind of hitter. Winn should be his old consistant self.
It’s just good to see everyone starting to hit. Still rooting for Franny to make it as the starting 2b man
Franny is one of my favorite players. Believe the current makeup of the starting team would better be complimented with the defense and speed of Burriss,
for me it’s part nostalgia, because i felt so bad for Franny when he ruptured his achilles tendon in ST last year…
by SFGAmsterdam on Mar 22, 2009 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m with Shoeless. I think the team can’t go wrong with either, as long as Burriss is given constant at bats. He’s the 2B of the future I think, and whether he’s getting ABs in the majors or ABs in the minors in AAA I’d be happy. Frandsen can be a very good utility guy, playing 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF.

He doesn’t quite have that same effortless manner that Omar does. But he’s still excellent defensively, and he can hit and run. I think he’ll a better hitter than Omar if not quite the same level defensively.

Rooting for Team USA tonight but would not be unhappy if Team Japan won the game. It woudl set up the war finals Japan vs Korea
I want him on the roster. 5th OF all the way.
The Basil Fawlty Moderating Strategy:

Torres makes sense
The Giants will be choosing from the likes of Aurilia, Guzman, Uribe, Frandsen, Velez, Schierholtz and Torres. Schierholtz is the only LHH in the bunch. Velez and Torres are switch-hitters the rest RHH.
That leaves Bochy with about the only option of using Schierholtz when he wants a LHH off the bench. Torres is still available for late inning defensive replacement, pinch-run for BMoney or can use him to pinch-hit.
I suspect he’ll get a shot at some point, like Bowker, Timpner and Horwitz did last year.

good thing this was an exhibition game. I’d be breaking stuff right now after having an 8-0 lead

I remember one game back in the mid-to-late 90s where the Giants blew a lead at least that big during the regular season against the Expos. It was pretty painful.
