It was nice having one arm in the bullpen we were able to abuse. And of course there’s the triple play. That being said, there’s not really room for him in this year’s pen. Farewell, yabu.
Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.

In the latest SI they have an article about professionals who go broke , some of them while they’re still playing (cough cough Jack Clark cough)…I imagine being released as a player with youth on your side is one thing , but this is another. Hope he gets on with his life in whatever way he chooses with positive results.
OK if I adopt Randy Johnson?

According to Extra Baggs they wanted him off the 40 man roster and would like to re-sign him in the coming days. That makes sense given that they’re going to need a couple of 40 man roster spots & the risk of Yabu signing elsewhere isn’t a big deal.

you seem to have a problem with age?

I’m old myself, so I don’t have a problem with age. I have a problem with age on my team when the age is not talented. We have kids who can do what Yabu does, and when the kids don’t get it done, at least there’s hope that they will get better. How’s Yabu going to improve?

On the other hand, he wasn’t blocking anyone terribly compelling last year, and he contributed a lot more than anyone could’ve reasonably expected.

Yeah, 2008 would’ve been so much better if Billy Sadler had been on the team all year instead of Yabu.

that’s not really the point. We were going nowhere in 2008 and Sadler’s development would have been better if he was getting all those innings instead of Yabu. Yabu’s innings were innings that could have been used to gain valuable experience for our younger relievers. It’s all right to start the season with a Yabu, but when you realize you’re going nowhere (which became apparent very early) it was time to dump him. To keep him all season and then to even bring him back for 2009 is ridiculous.

Billy Sadler has almost 50 innings in the majors, he’s 27, and he’s still not good.
Like I said previously, I don’t have a problem with Yabu because, for the most part, he wasn’t blocking anyone compelling. I did have a problem when they sent down Romo and Matos and called up Yabu and Sadler, but that’s it.

wow. I’m shocked there wasn’t a big market feeding frenzy when the Giants’ put him on the open market.
