I love me some Jesus
Yes I am a believer. Jesus is my homeboy. WWJD? Just his .300, smack double-digit home runs, hit countless singles, doubles and triples...and play lack-luster defense at 2nd bass. According to sources, Guzman's "best" defensive possition is 2nd base. It's been stated on McC before that he would be an awful 2nd basemen and i tend to agree, but i'm in an good mood today and feeling generous with my believes that Jesus is our savior...at 2nd base this year. In no means do I believe he will be stellar on defense, but he will be acceptable. The kid obviously has great hand-eye corrdination. His ST number are ridiculous. He is hitting everything and has been for awhile now. I think he just needs to work on his foot work in the field. Obviously that is easier said than done, but I think he can become servicable at 2nd as long as he keeps hitting the sh!t out of the ball. I think the offense he will provide for our punchless team will outweight his defensive lapses. I'm thinking he is sorta like Jorge Cantu, good offensivly, but might lose one or two games with his D. What do you guys think? Is Jesus a viable option at 2nd base this year to start the season? Do you think his crappy defense far outweights is stellar offense? Or am I too aww-struck by ST numbers? I don't know, but I would sure love to see his bat in our line up everyday.

Couldn’t be worse than Durham at 2nd
by LinceCainGarnerSon on Mar 18, 2009 7:01 AM PDT reply actions
Actually he probably could. Durham’s career bUZR the Giants is something like +1 run above average. He was below average in a couple of years, but overall he wasn’t a liability like Guzman would probably be.
Now with better readability
Durham’s career bUZR with the Giants while playing 2B is something like +1 run above average.
I like the prospect of Snow working on first base with him in AAA. I just don’t understand why he hasn’t added an outfielders glove to his stack. 1B/LF gives us more flexibility later this season/next season. Next season Winn will likely be gone, but if Schierholtz completely flops then Guzman in the OF means Sabean won’t have to pay $30M/yr to Holiday. On the other side, if Ishikawa completely flops Guzman can slide into the position where you traditionally put your worst defender. I’d like to think that Guzman’s bat could be above average, even at 1B.
I have to say that I’d prefer him in OF. Other than EME, who would he be blocking? Rodriguez is several years away. Plus I think he’d have enough range and arm to be at least adequate defensively. If we were so willing to give Velez 100+ AB’s in the OF then why not Guzman?
I think I pulled my swagger muscle...

My thoughts on the subject are well-documented. At the time I wrote this, I didn’t think he could keep up such a torrid pace, but he’s still OPSing a cool 1.375. Between this and the VWL, I think he’s establishing himself as a legit hitter.

I’d like to see him spend at least a couple months mashing triple-A pitching before I get too excited. He has a grand total of 59 ABs in AAA (last year), and they didn’t go too well. In my mind, VWL and spring training pitching is not the same test.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha he made jokes about Jesus Guzman being Jesus. I can tell this shall be a recurring theme
Why does Sabean always look constipated?
Shall?
It’s been a recurring theme since the team signed him..

I say stick him in Fresno, splitting time between third and second. If he does well, reassess in June depending on what Frandsen/Burriss, Ishikawa, and Sandoval are doing. If any of them are struggling mightily, then it be Jesus time.

With all the ??? out offense has...
It makes sense to give Guzman a chance to prove himself at the MLB level to start the season. If he can help a team win, I’d rather it be the Giants than the Grizzles. Find out if he can stick from the get go, rather than letting him demolish AAA for a couple months when we need every win we can if we’re gonna squeak out a division win. Assuming “The Art of Defensive Awesomeness at 1B 101” Goes well with Professor Snow, have him play 1st against lefties, and while getting time a 2B as well (Frannys still the starter in my eyes, I believe!!!). Hey, If he’s not playing the same position every day then that means tough chances at first will come along when Ishikawas in, and when Guzman is at 1B those tough chances will go to 2nd. That’s just how it works.

Jesus at 1st?
You know what I love, knee jerk reactions, and sonofabitch I think I just had one. Today the Giants played Guzman at 1st, after Ishikawa and a thought popped into my head. What if Ishikawa goes all Dan Ortmeier on us and starts striking out in nearly every at bat as he has been doing lately. And what if Guzman keeps hitting the crap outta the ball while playingly adequately, ADEQUATELY at first base. Would the Giants start Jesus at first if Ish plays his way off the team, and Guzman plays his way on?
Why does Sabean always look constipated?
Jesus is just alright with me, Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright with me, Jesus is just alright

Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright
Jesus is just alright with me, Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright with me, Jesus is just alright
I don’t care what they may know
I don’t care where they may go
I don’t care what they may know
Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus, he’s my friend; Jesus, he’s my friend
He took me by the hand; Led me far from this land
Jesus, he’s my friend
Don’t ever leave me, Jesus. I couldn’t stand to see you go.
My heart would simply snap, my Lord, if you walked on out that door.
I promise I’ll be good to you, and keep you warm at night.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, why don’t we just… shut off the lights.
