Dodgers Curious About Pedro Martinez
"Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times advocates the Dodgers signing Pedro Martinez, and GM Ned Colletti admitted, "He's somebody we're curious about." The question is whether Pedro will drop his asking price enough to make a return to L.A. feasible."

Pedro's recent performance in the WBC for the Dominican Republic:
Pedro Martinez threw three more dominant innings tonight. No hits. No walks. Only blemish was a hit better. He threw 35 pitches, 26 for strikes. There were five swings and misses. And he was consistently 91, when last year he was in the high 80s.

I was happy for the honkballers

I was always a litte curious about Rue McClanahan/Blanche Devereaux. I mean, yeah she was old, but she was very frisky and always getting the younger guys. She’s gotta know a few tricks…
Don't think, it could only hurt the ballclub.
Grandma I’d like to… oh, I see your point.

Is anyone else intrigued...
About giving Pedro a $5 mil + incentives deal for a bullpen/spot starter/replacement starter role?
The Giants have the money, and the commitment wouldn’t be long term. Our staff’s durability is questionable, and how cool would it be to have Pedro Martinez coming out of the pen between or until starts?
Think about it… 10 Cy Youngs on one staff. How much fun would that be?
Ha, that would be a verrrry strange thing to have Pedro Martinez in the bullpen and Barry Zito in the starting rotation.

You know we’re gonna need another starter before the year ends. It’s only someone else’s money. We should spend it now.
not only that
they theoretically didn’t spend $25M on Manny, and I haven’t heard anything about slashing ticket prices when he didn’t. So that should leave plenty of scratch around for this kind of idea.

It sounds like you’re implying there’s a $25M “hole” in the payroll. Compared to last year, how do you arrive at that figure?
The shed very little salaries and added Johnson, Renteria, Affeldt and Howry. Other players got raises that were built into their deals.
Next year, Molina, Lowry, Roberts and Winn all come off the books.

Pedro Martinez does not want to be a 6th starter.
Okay?
I don’t know him at all and I can say that with absolute certainty.

But does Pedro Martinez
Want to be on the staff with the most Cy Youngs, ever?
This stuff would sell tickets.
It’s some form of nomoeroticism..
