Maybe it’s a Surprise! that they’re rafting since Arizona is the desert.

Rafting down the Colorado river? They were the Grand Canyon Rafters before they changed the name to Surprise.

I bought an old GC Rafters jersey at the AFL Championship game in Scottsdale. They were selling a bunch of stuff with the old logos. I almost got a Solar Sox jersey because the yellow was cool, but it had a patch on the arm that said SOX and that was too close to the Red Sox for my liking.
So now I have a light blue/black/silver GC Rafters jersey, #11. I have no idea who wore 11 for the Rafters, but I know Fred Lewis and Noah Lowry played for that team in the AFL.

I’m hoping they still have the Swing of the Quad Cities hats available. It was a saxophone with a baseball coming out of the bell.

Leftovers from the Chinese place we went to in Albany, which turned out to be pretty good. We had Garlic chicken, sizzling seafood hot pot, and Mandarin Bean Curd.
Dinner:
Thai Curry Noodles, which I was going to make last night but then we went out ’cause my wife had a long day.

My wife and I are doing Fake Chinese New Year in a couple weeks, having missed the real Chinese New Year since we were to busy with having a month-old baby. We semi-finalized the menu last night.
I’m making:
Tea-Smoked Duck (this is a dish I only make once a year, always for Chinese New Year)
Chicken Shanghai
Moo-shu Pork
Plum Pork
Soy Sauce Shrimp
Lion’s Head Meatballs
Bok Choy
…and I was also thinking of making Bibimbop, which is Korean, not Chinese, but we’re short on veggie stuff.
My wife’s making:
Scallion Pancakes
Pork Dumplings
Sesame Noodles
Tea Eggs with Roasted Pork
Thousand Year Eggs with tofu
Sticky Rice stuffing with roasted pork, dried shrimp, and soy sauce

Heard this song on the way home and got me into the mood for some Floyd.

a Floyd Mood is a good mood to be in
I’m surprised to say that Floyd has been growing on me over the past couple years. Wow, what a strange sentence.
Anyway, I started out only liking “Dark Side” and a couple songs off of “Wish You Were Here” (both of which I bought as LPs when they came out) and thought that was the end of it. Recently, I’ve actually started going back through their earlier LPs on iTunes and started picking off various songs I like. I’m up to 16 Floyd songs now. About an hour and a half of music. I think I need more.
Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??
Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals are what I’d call the must haves. Meddle and The Wall are close up there. I’ve got Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, and Obscured by Clouds as well (plus various bootlegs) and the only one I’d recommend to a more casual Floyd fan is Piper if you want to get into a psychadelic mood. On my desk, I have four Carl’s Jr. Bobblehead dolls:
- J. T. Snow
- Robb Nen
- Rich Aurilia
- Barry Bonds
I also have a Dusty Baker bobblehead and a Jeff Kent bobblehead, but they have both been banished to my desk drawer. Actually, a couple years ago, someone gave me a dog bobblehead doll, and I took off the dog head and replaced it with Jeff Kent’s head. Have you ever seen the cover of David Bowie’s “Diamond Dogs” LP? Yeah, sort of like that, except more deeply disturbing. But funny too.
I also have on my desk a nice wood carving of a kingfisher.

The war ended the depression. The New Deal kept the workers of the United States from revolting and/or electing weird people like the people of Europe.
Any sensible person knows it was the war however many still believe FDR and the New Dealio was the reason. Was funny to watch CNN today ask a survivor of the great depression what got us out of the depression and when the 90 yr old women said the war.
I try to pimp this podcast whenever someone brings up the Depression and the New Deal. It’s really, really good.

I think if you try to explain (or understand) cricket in baseball terms, it just gets ridiculously complicated! The only way to really understand it (as with baseball) is to sit and watch a game with someone who knows what they are talking about!

Of course you are productive when you can be selective as to who can enroll. The local public school has to take just about anybody that shows up. Charter school can boot your failing, insolent, chronically absent ass out.
Now sir, THAT would solve a LOT of our educational problems. After 20 years [ yes I’m OLD] I’m tired of telling parents that cheetos and/or oreo cookies with a pepsi are NOT an appropriate breakfast for their 5 year old. I think Socrates / Plato had a few thoughts on that subject, a quick look on the interwebs seems to indicate controversy as to who exactly said it. “Socrates wrote that Plato said it” etc etc
Yes, this is true. something to the effect of “What has become of our young generation? They ignore their elders, riot in the streets…”

Socrates didn’t write anything because he thought writing ideas down caused them to calcify into dogma. What we know of Socrates comes from the writing of Plato.
