The Surprise! Rafters in the Arizona Fall League is an unfortunate team name. Surprise! We’re rafting!

Maybe it’s a Surprise! that they’re rafting since Arizona is the desert.

Rafting down the Colorado river? They were the Grand Canyon Rafters before they changed the name to Surprise.

I bought an old GC Rafters jersey at the AFL Championship game in Scottsdale. They were selling a bunch of stuff with the old logos. I almost got a Solar Sox jersey because the yellow was cool, but it had a patch on the arm that said SOX and that was too close to the Red Sox for my liking.

So now I have a light blue/black/silver GC Rafters jersey, #11. I have no idea who wore 11 for the Rafters, but I know Fred Lewis and Noah Lowry played for that team in the AFL.

My wife and I are doing Fake Chinese New Year in a couple weeks, having missed the real Chinese New Year since we were to busy with having a month-old baby. We semi-finalized the menu last night.

I’m making:
Tea-Smoked Duck (this is a dish I only make once a year, always for Chinese New Year)
Chicken Shanghai
Moo-shu Pork
Plum Pork
Soy Sauce Shrimp
Lion’s Head Meatballs
Bok Choy
…and I was also thinking of making Bibimbop, which is Korean, not Chinese, but we’re short on veggie stuff.

My wife’s making:
Scallion Pancakes
Pork Dumplings
Sesame Noodles
Tea Eggs with Roasted Pork
Thousand Year Eggs with tofu
Sticky Rice stuffing with roasted pork, dried shrimp, and soy sauce

A one-pitch out to Rowand, a 4-pitch walk to Bowker, and a one-pitch GIDP for Uribe. Is that accurate, or is Gameday leaving out pitches it doesn’t want to bother with again?

the balls are the two walks and the pitch that Lewis stole the base off, the 9 strikes are the previous out pitches.

a Floyd Mood is a good mood to be in

I’m surprised to say that Floyd has been growing on me over the past couple years. Wow, what a strange sentence.

Anyway, I started out only liking “Dark Side” and a couple songs off of “Wish You Were Here” (both of which I bought as LPs when they came out) and thought that was the end of it. Recently, I’ve actually started going back through their earlier LPs on iTunes and started picking off various songs I like. I’m up to 16 Floyd songs now. About an hour and a half of music. I think I need more.

Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??

Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals are what I’d call the must haves. Meddle and The Wall are close up there. I’ve got Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, and Obscured by Clouds as well (plus various bootlegs) and the only one I’d recommend to a more casual Floyd fan is Piper if you want to get into a psychadelic mood. RANDOM INFORMATION:

On my desk, I have four Carl’s Jr. Bobblehead dolls:

 - J. T. Snow
 - Robb Nen
 - Rich Aurilia
 - Barry Bonds

I also have a Dusty Baker bobblehead and a Jeff Kent bobblehead, but they have both been banished to my desk drawer. Actually, a couple years ago, someone gave me a dog bobblehead doll, and I took off the dog head and replaced it with Jeff Kent’s head. Have you ever seen the cover of David Bowie’s “Diamond Dogs” LP? Yeah, sort of like that, except more deeply disturbing. But funny too.

I also have on my desk a nice wood carving of a kingfisher.
