"They are looking in the wrong places," Canseco said in a text message to The Associated Press. "This is a 25-year cover-up. The true criminals are Gene Orza, (union head) Donald Fehr and (commissioner) Bud (Selig). Investigate them, and you will have all the answers."

Jose Canseco: totally right about everything, a colossal assface nonetheless.

"he walked 18; new league record! Struck out 18, another new league record! He also hit the sportswriter, the PA announcer, the bull mascot twice..."

Jose is right, once again. Jose is a fool, but at least he is an interesting one!

I don’t care whether Canseco is right or not, but those 3 a-holes need to be investigated. Question is: By whom?

Bonds stands alone.

still the funniest part of this entire Jose Canseco saga, I laugh every time I think about it.

My pursuit of Jose began in January when I called him in California. His girlfriend, Heidi, answered the phone. I told her that I was writing a magazine story about Jose writing a book. “And a movie,” she said. “Jose is writing a book and a movie about himself.” I said, “You mean a screenplay?” She paused a beat, then said, “No, a movie.” I said, “Of course.”

Oh Jose. He sure knows how to pick out the women.

Hmm

It just occurred to me, when Jose was talking about A-Rod cheating with his woman, did he really mean Madonna?

My favorite thing Canseco ever did:

Some Reporter: “Jose, do you think Curt Schilling used steroids?”

Canseco: “I don’t know what he did or didn’t do. I think he’s a jerk, though.”

I would high five Canseco’s gigantic palm for that one.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

Me too

I would love if these 104 players results that Schilling is calling for to be released publicly had his name on it.

by Hobbes2d on Feb 9, 2009 3:37 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

so true. I actually kind of like Jose. He’s internal conflicts are rather obvious, and his annoying parts are annoying indeed, and he is clearly not very smart. But he can be remarkably honest (though i’m not sure if he can tell what bullshit is, and isn’t), and somehow both an egoist and have a real humility.

Schilling, on the other hand, is a jackass. Between him and Clemens, I don’t know who wins the ‘great player, unbearable person’ award (for their era, and for pitchers).

Q: What do A-rod and Jose Canseco share in common?

A: Rangers, ‘Roids and Madonna’s phone number! (Drum tap, cymbal crash)

Canseco

Strangely, I kinda respect the guy.

I respect the way he doesn’t seem to give a crap about all of the etiquette and niceties of society, and just does what he feels like.

He says shit he shouldn’t say, and does things he doesn’t do.

And in the end, it looks more and more like he was right all along. I respect that.

Of course if I ever met him, he would probably treat me like shit – but frankly, that’s fine. That’s how most celebrities are. He just doesn’t try to pretend he is anything else like the rest of them do.

This. I laugh at the fact that he’s the most trustworthy of all the assholes in this stupid play, but it’s still the truth.

I actually ran into him in LA (the santa monica promenade) a few years back. Massive guy. He was very cool and friendly though.

I don't.

Here’s a guy who’s introduced steroids to a lot of people, then turned around and outed them. And he only started this campaign after he was washed up and no longer a center of media attention. I’ll listen to what he has to say, because he’s often right about these guys, but this guy is no better than a drug dealer who sells his clients out to the cops.

I'm spent, just can't rosterbate anymore.

Well, didn’t he do this (by his own stated reasons) since he felt—and was being—outcasted as a ‘roid user’ by baseball (MLB and players) when many of those players and the league were using and or complicit.

If to continue the criminal analogy, this is like selling out a dirty politician with whom you were involved in crime: they deny their involvement, and try to put it all on you……and he just pulled them down with him. I have no problem with that.

This

Everyone piled on Jose – and he simply said “Fuck you guys, if you let me go down I’m taking you ALL down with me”.

I would do the same thing. Everyone turned on him, and he decided to sing.

I’m kinda surprised Bonds hasn’t done the same.

by FairweatherFan on Feb 10, 2009 11:52 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Bonds still wants to play baseball..

That might have something to do with it. He would be even more of a clubhouse cancer if he called out teammates.

I think the ‘fuck you’ element is a lot of what is going on with Greg Anderson (and of course, it won’t hurt financially—down the road—to remain friends with Barry).

But so much of this, in baseball, the media, and sadly even the Justice system is Kangaroo Court. The prosecutors and investigators have conducted themselves in such a jackass way that Anderson probably developed enough hatred of them, in order to not mind the Prison time whether or not he was doing it for Bonds (or at least it lessen the favor element, existentially).

Met him on Super Bowl Sunday

At Sagebrush Cantina in LA area. Seemed like an alright guy. Joking around, having fun. Ego did ooze, though. Almost asked him about a bunch of this stuff while he and I were teasing some young, dumb, drunk chick, but would have been a pretty rough segue.

Out in Calabasas? Is that place still around? Over 20 years ago it was one of the best meat markets around LA area.

Older meat. Still pretty cool place to hang outside on a Sunday afternoon.

Years ago was working in the Valley and our credit manager told me about the place. Said her daughter and friends would go there on Sundays. Her daughter’s best friend became the wife of Bret Saberhagen. A couple of dollies in accounting department tried to get me to join them out there. Never made it but heard some nice stories.

I lived in the LA area for a few years when I was a kid, and I played Pony League baseball with Bret Saberhagen’s son.

I don’t remember if he was any good.
