Sexie on First
Yeah I know it was a silly title for this FanPost, but oh well. I'm still very new to McCovey Chronicles and this is my first post so I hope this hasn't been discussed. I found this article: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/118924-giants-should-sign-richie-sexson-not-aurilia. It brings up something I've yet to hear this offseason; Richie Sexson to the Giants. Is there a chance he could rebound his career in the NL and be a surprise story for '09 or is he completely washed up? I consider myself an optimistic person and even I don't think he can bring much to the Giants, but I'd be a little intrigued. First, It would cost the Giants very little money and is a non-risk. Second, as pointed out in the article, Travis Ishikawa can't hit lefties and Richie can. I wouldn't complain if we brought him into Spring Training just to kick the tires. If we don't get Manny then this, if nothing else, is the Giants being a little creative. Obviously he's a totally different player and different position, but it's something. What are your thoughts?

PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
b) completely washed up

Bengie: Like an Aurilia kidney stone, slow-moving and tough to get out.
ewwww!!!!
Been watching Richie “hit” with the Mariners the past few hundred years and while he would fit right in with last years non hitting team I’m hoping (fingers crossed) that this years team will be much improved in that department.
Richie Sexson, coming soon to an independent league near you.
Adopted father of Brian Bocock, Brad Boyer, Sharlon Schoop, Shane Jordan and Jeremiah Luster.
I’d actually take him if we got Beltre as well…

We'll give you a pass since you're new
This was discussed at length last year (or maybe the year before) when Durham was being shopped. The general consensus was that Sexon’s not going to rejuvenate his career. I think most people would rather give the roster spot to someone else.
STEVE HOLM! refuses to be the odd man out.

NO!
Besides all the other baseball reasons, the fact that people are tempted to call him “sexie” is enough to shoot down the idea.

I actually think people here are a little quick to consign Ishikawa to the platoon bin(setting aside for a moment the fact that there are grave concerns whether he can major league pitching at an acceptable rate at all). It’s true that his platoon splits last year were dramatically indicative of an inability to hit left-handed pitching, but like virtually everything that has to do with Travis’ career, his platoon splits have been wildly inconsistent over the years. In both ’06 and ’07 his splits were much closer than in ’08 (albeit they were equally dismal) and in ’05, probably his best overall offensive season in the minors, he actually hit much better against LHP than against RHP.
Putting the last four years together it doesn’t look like he has that much of a platoon split at all. So it doesn’t seem absurd to leave open the possibility that last year’s dramatic split was in part sample size shenanigans. (In other words, in for a nickel…)
Get the hell out the way Bengie, Pablito's hit the show!
by the title only, i expected to see text along the lines of “naked pictures, walter brennan”
and “he look good to me”
i adopt brian sabean... take that dramatic irony!

Yes
I think Goofus would be a fine choice to play first.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
Bochy: I saw the gif of you dancing, Goofusy. Just get out there and do your thing with a pinch of sexie and dash of gamer.
Me: OK, skip.

Eddie Izzard?
The guy has a lot of range, but I don’t think he can play first.

Am I the only one who read the title and thought this post would refer to that photo of Ishikawa in Giants Idol?

With Sexson and RJ, we would probably be the first team to feature two guys at 6’10".

If there was a Richie Sexson equivalent at 3B (although that is probably Ty Wigginton) then that would be one thing. But given that we have Sandoval (who I think has a real future as a 1B), Ishikawa, and Phelps, I don’t see the need to bring in another average old 1B.

My ranked preferences for 1B
1. Ishikawa
2. Sandoval
3. Phelps
4. Aurilia
5. Bowker
6. Harper (is he even still in the org?)
7. McClain
8. Manny Ramirez
9. Randy Johnson
10. Richie Sexson

Oops, forgot a couple
Slot in Will Clark at #9 and JT Snow at #10, so that bumps Sexson down to 12th on the hypothetical depth chart.

Saving Nate for 3B?

Let's trade Ray Durham for Richie Sexson
Am I a year too late on this?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
Is Ray Durham still alive?? He’s on the FA market and I haven’t heard his name mentioned yet by anyone.
Brian Sabean's dad- will make a few phone calls to help his son find a new job after next season
Great point. His numbers improved after going to the Brewers, yet no one is talking about him.
I’m guessing he fits a real limited role at this point since he’s a good hitter, but not a “featured” hitter. His defense and injury history also keep him from being an A-lister.
He’ll probably be a late sign and fill out someone’s starting line-up for a $3-6M one year deal.
My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman
can't hit lefties
They once said that about Barry Bonds, and Will Clark. Got to face em to hit em. Sexson? Intrigued? Rather have a senior citizen Orlando Cepeda after a Bong hit.
