this is high praise for MadBum

2nd only to David Price who they see as a future Hall of Famer (seems a tad hyperbolic but what the hell)

by FluLikeSymptoms on Feb 3, 2009 1:10 PM PST reply actions

Geez

You’d think Price threw 4 perfect games in the World Series or something.

you mean…he didn’t?

If he didn’t, then the PRICE IS WRONG BITCH!

If God had intended us not to rosterbate, he would've made our arms shorter.

Padre renuente de Luis Perdomo, porque él es todo el que se deja hasta junio. The 28th best prospect in all the land!

are you related to Mike Hunt?

Reaching the Hall of Fame seems like a reasonable goal? Jesus, BA.

I dont know what’s funnier, that or the fact that Matt Bush probably has the best arm in the entire Padres system despite the fact that he already failed as a SS, got in trouble with the law and had tommy john surgery.

bush

  would’ve made a perfect pirate 1st pick

No

Too much natural talent. They preferred the Brian Bullington type, so they never would have to get their hopes up.

GROUGTHINK ALERT

by groug on Feb 3, 2009 11:31 PM PST up reply actions

To be fair, I think he was trying to say it’s a reasonable goal for Price to have for himself, not a reasonable outcome to expect of his career. I remember Matt Cain saying at the Future’s Game that his goal was to be a Hall of Famer. I think if you’ve got superstar tools you’d be doing yourself a disservice as a pro athlete to have any other goal.

Get the hell out the way Bengie, Pablito's hit the show!

That is true, but the context didn’t really seem like that.

no one can say that a guy who is a rookie should have the Hall of Fame as their goal. that’s just getting way ahead of themselves.

And no player should have that as their goal, or at least shouldn’t say it out loud. It’d be nice, but very very good players don’t even sniff the Hall of Fame (Will Clark!) and a guy who hasn’t done shit yet shouldn’t even be thinking about it. They should try to have the best career they can, season after season, and after awhile (say 8-10 years), they can start to think about it after demonstrating the requisite success.

And yes, i think it’s too soon to be talking HOF for Lincecum, too.

TINSTAAPP for whom RTHOFSLARG

Price is on another level. He’s a once-in-a-generation pitching prospect whose stuff, polish and makeup combine to make him as can’t-miss as a pitcher can be. I can’t remember a lefthanded pitching prospect as good as Price in the 20 years I’ve been covering baseball—Brien Taylor wasn’t nearly this refined—and he has to be the best going to back at least as far as Floyd Bannister, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1976 draft.

Jeepers, Jim, the best QB since the Ryan Leaf?

Tyler Walker, my son, it's time you left the nest. No seriously. Go.

Yeah, seriously.

He’s comparing guys who sucked in the majors but saying he’s a once in a generation prospect.

I don’t think Tim Lincecum was a very good lefthanded pitching prospect

hey asshats

Tim Lincecum is right handed!

by FluLikeSymptoms on Feb 3, 2009 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

come now

I think we all know Tim is not allowed to pitch left handed. It wouldn’t be fair to the hitters.

by Hobbes2d on Feb 3, 2009 5:23 PM PST up reply actions

so is Inigo Montoya.

We're all basically Pedro Feliz.

He’s got 6 fingers on his left hand?

Don't think, it could only hurt the ballclub.

No that’s Antonio Alfonseca.

woopsy

I interpreted that as best pitching prospect and I missed the lefty part. Still, though, the best lefty ever is a bit of a stretch considering he has yet to acheive much of anything.
