Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Dave Groeschner, the head trainer, said that Sanchez gained muscle over the winter and that they expect no durability issues with him this year. This is good news.

I mean, I don’t think anyone would have thought the Giants were seriously considering trading Sanchez and putting all their eggs into Lowry’s basket. Even though Sabean said something about Sanchez and Lowry being even for the 5th starters spot a few weeks ago, I think that was just more posturing to try and increase Lowry’s trade value.
glad to hear that sabean recognizes durty’s obvious value… i am seriously knocking wood over that shoulder injury last year though… i don’t care how great of shape you’re in, when the rotator cuff starts to go, you’re pretty much screwed, imo (no, i’m not a doctor, i just play one at mccoveychronicles.com)

El Guapo
Puerto Rico’s WBC chances just improved. Hopefully Sanchez can pitch for PR and feel his will have the same chance of cracking the SF rotation in 2009. All reviews of Sanchez have been good this winter.
ETA from the blog post
Sanchez came up when Greg Papa, who was moderating a Giants panel at the lunch, asked about Sanchez pitching in the WBC and whether that would impact the fight with Lowry for the fifth spot in the order. Sabean’s answer made it sound as though Sanchez is a sure thing for the Puerto Rico team and said Sanchez actually will get to pitch for the Giants twice in the Cactus League before he goes to the WBC, where he would be limited to 45 pitches in his first start there.

As much as this makes me happy...
I hope he makes it back and is a valuable pitcher at some point in his life.
The Noah Lowry story is still an interesting one. I really hope this isn’t the end of Noah’s arc.
Catcher are base running. Hitters are offense.
Only [hella] games left until the end of Zito's contract.
Noah's Arc is like the best show ever

Either Lowry or Sanchez could be traded to one of the many pitching-hungry teams. Both have considerable value: Lowry’s more of a finished product, while Sanchez’s potential is highly regarded around the Majors.
lol no
“a finished product” is kind of an odd way to refer to somebody who hasn’t pitched in 18 months.

ha ha, well, that would make more sense, I guess I misinterpreted what he was trying to say.

He also has Rowand batting sixth and Sandoval fifth, which I’d like to see but I assume Bochy will flip that.

The Lineup Quoted Is The One Bochy Has Been Projecting For A While Now
I think there is little risk that Rowand will hit 5th moving Lewis or Sandoval to 6th.
By the way, the lineup quoted (again Bochy’s linup) has Lewis (not Sandoval) hitting 5rd. Sandoval is hitting 3rd. I very much hope Bochy does swap Lewis and Sandoval infact I think that might be likely. But, as i said, I think moving Rowand to 5th is very unlikely.

Sanchez officially over Noah?
I would have guessed Lowry was the “top”
My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman
I dunno, the power bottom is a hot commodity these days.

Well, Nick Johnson is now an expendable part
to the Nats. Would you send Lowry to the Nats for him? Or is the hope of a healthy Lowry as a left-handed starter well under 30 who could still be a 14-game winner too much to give up for Johnson?
Matt Cain's drinking buddy
This Would Make Sense After Both Play Enough In Spring Training To Prove Health And Effectiveness.
Noah is two years younger, owed $1M less in 2009, and has a team option for 2010 that NIch does not. Therefore, a non 40 man roster prospect and $1M should come to SF with Johnson for Lowry.

I would definitely trade Lowry for Johnson. There’s a pretty small chance that Johnson will stay healthy and be productive, but I think that’s worth the risk. Especially because we have no idea what to expect from Lowry.
And starting pitching depth is a strength now that we have Ramon Ortiz!!!

Sabean said just a month ago that Lowry was considered the leading candidate for the fifth spot because of “seniority.” While I agree that Sanchez is a no brainer for the fifth spot, and I’m glad Sabean came to his senses, but what the hell happened to change his mind, considering there were no games played?? More probably he just likes to say stupid things.
