Supposedly it would be to free up third so the Sox could sign Beltre. Mike Lowell is owed $12 million next year. Rowand $12 million over the next three years. What say ye?

the Red Sox won’t sign off on that. The Giants’ would have to kick in $12mil just to get the Sox attention.

I'd do it

If the Sawx would eat all of Scott’s contract.

But then we’d be getting Mike Lowell.

I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

So… perfect fit for the Giants then?

Utter frustration and futility.

Are they seriously getting an ex-top prospect for him?

Ramirez, imo, is a better hitter than Chris Davis.

I think you could build a better team/lineup by swapping Rowand for Lowell

Lowell is one year at 12 mil. He only played 117 games last year, hit 290/337/474. Compared to Rowand’s 261/319/419 in 144 games. They might like Garko as a throw in.

Play Lowell at 1b, maybe platoon with Ishikawa. Sign Podsednik to play CF and lead off. That leaves LF and RF open to adding hitters. Worst case: Bowker and Schierholtz (and I don’t even mind that that much). Even Dye in LF on a one year deal would not be horrible.

Podsednik (some Torres against lefties) – CF
Sanchez – 2B
Pablo – 3B
Dye – LF
Lowell/Ishikawa – 1b
Posey – C
Bowker/Schierholtz – RF
Renteria – SS

And next season hopefully there are better FA 1st basemen available and guys like Crawford and Neal are ready.

btw, Lowell for Ramirez is a terrible trade for Texas.

How bout Cameron

While i think its too late for Lowell I think I would like this idea better with Mike Cameron in CF.

you are so literal

the point was to show that even the worst case scenario would result in a better lineup.

I like Lowell but..

I think its too late for him. We should have tried harder before the 2006 season.

If Lowell has a one year contract

I’d do the trade if Lowell only has one more year on his contract and the Red Sox would bite on Rowand. I like the idea of playing Lowell at first, and losing two years of under performance.

Getting rid of Rowand is a good thing. I’d do it.

New news ragarding the money, per MLBTR
9:49pm: The Red Sox will pay $9MM of Lowell’s salary, with the Rangers paying the remaining $3MM, according to Bradford. That’s the same split that other outlets reported over the course of the last day or so
