Ryan Doumit anyone?
In the search for a catcher who can't remember disco and defensive flexibility, I came across this blog posting from Yahoo, which reminded me of Doumit's really good 2008 season and the Gigantes pre-existing relationship with Pittsburgh. Now we all know that Dave Littlefield left Brian Sabean's # on the speed-dial (see Schmidt, Jason) so would something like this be an ok stopgap until Buster's ready in the eyes of the Sabean? He's under contract for 2 more years (something Sabean said was the limit on a catcher), on the right side of 30, and since he's coming off a "down year" (probably after realizing he was stuck playing for the pirates for the rest of the year) he could come at a decent price. So what is that price and would we be willing pay it?

the Pirates signed Vinnie Chulk this week so we know they have poor judgement.

Doumit wouldn't be bad
but my rage at the Alderson-Sanchez trade reminds me not to trust this new good management team of Pittsburgh.
Doesn't it sting less when you remember what we gave up to get Schmidt
and how they let us dump Matt Morris on them? It’s not our fault Sabean liked Randy Winn more than Raj Davis.

winn and davis could have platooned

Why trade for a first baseman
When you can get a comparable player in free agency
Flaxseed oil dependent
Considering Doumit would be playing at Catcher
I tend to agree with you (in this magical fantasy land), but he does have the ability to play first, or LF/RF in a pinch.

This isn’t really a new topic, but I’d take him if it was for spare parts. He should come pretty cheaply given that he’s never played a full season in the majors.
The very bad man traded my son...So now I'd like you all to meet my new son, Ryan "Aaron" Garko...Dammit it's just not the same!
I like Doumit, but not too sure what PIT would want in return. If it happened I am sure most would be upset about what we gave up.

I think Doumit was the Catcher in Event Horizon
I cannot look at the black pits this guy uses for eyeballs and hope that he ever puts a Giants uni on.

Freaky, man. Just freaky.
