McCovey Chronicles Community Prospect List #9
Please do not rec these, we don't want to have them cluttering up the recommended fanposts. Thanks
Solid win for Rafael Rodriguez. Here is our list so far:
- Buster Posey
- Madison Bumgarner
- Thomas Neal
- Zack Wheeler
- Roger Kieschnick
- Tommy Joseph
- Brandon Crawford
- Rafael Rodriguez
For #9, we have the following options:
Each player should have a link to Baseball Cube in their first name and a link to First Inning in their last name if they are available. The poll will close Friday at noon, unless it's clear enough to call, then it will be Thursday around noon.
This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. If the author uses filler to achieve the minimum word requirement, a moderator may edit the FanPost for his or her own amusement.

How much of the Rafa vote does Runzler pick up? Even if it’s none, he probably still has enough support to make this poll pretty uninteresting.
I went with Noonan.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
In terms of others to add i propose Matthew Graham and Chris Dominguez again. Also i should do my parental responsability and suggest Waldis Joaquin who deserves consideration alongside the other two relievers on the list.

Voting Gillaspie. I think he’ll hit but his defense might be shoddy. He’s probably got the best polish of any hitter left.
Runzler has, by far, the greatest chance of making a possitive impact
Not even close IMO. Even if his potential impact is less than that of many on the board, the much higher probability far outweighs it.
"…this thing which tells time."
Noonan. I would probably vote Runzler next round, but he’ll probably win this one.
Please hit better, Randy Winn.
Voted Gillaspie
I still kinda believe…

If you wanted to squint a bit, you could look at Gillaspie as a poor man’s Youkilis.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Or a really poor man’s Wade Boggs!

Noonan
I was really down on him earlier in the season, but his OBP skillz finally showed up late in the year. I’m hopeful.

Noonan
Voted for Noonan. Changed my mind on Adrianza for probably another 2-4 picks. Though I assume that Runzler will win this, I will vote for Noonan next round again, but I would have voted for Runzler with my next pick.

Went with Noonan here and will probably go with Gillaspie next round.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
noonan platoonin
a note on Nick Noonan—not to be negative—
OPS was 522 vs lefties, 807 vs righty.
Yes he did get better steadily throughout last season, that’s a big positive for a young guy. Maybe he’ll platoon with a Rohlinger or Burriss or Downs who would also be the backup SS.
Gillaspie was balanced vs LHP and RHP
cheering for Adam Witter, who will hit bigleague dingers some day.
Still yelling "Go, Antoan"
This is purely a hypothesis but I would think that someone who was drafted right out of HS probably hasn’t seen that many left-handers in their lifetime. I’d expect some improvement with the more experience he gets vs. LHPs. Like I said, a totally made up theory but it makes sense to me.
Not sure what to do about my screen name at this point...

That’s quite interesting although it’s worth noting that he didn’t show much of a platoon split the previous year and the split is in a large part influenced by BABIP. He also put up much better numbers away from home (wOBA of .340) with near identical BABIP which reinforces the notion that they play in a pitchers park.

Went with Runzler
I want to see Adrianza actually hit the ball before I start ranking him above a guy that will likely be big leaguer next year.

Still going with Runzler, it just looks like this time I am not alone.

He’s gotten like 20-25% every vote since 5th or so. You were never alone.

Looks like it’s finally Runzler’s time. Should have been at #5.
STEVE HOLM! refuses to be the odd man out.
U R #5!
But no, I think that’s far to high for such a low-ceiling guy.

Runzler
nasty fastball, good slider when it’s on, showed much better command in 2009 and is (hopefully) on the right track. 2010 Upside: late inning dominator, downside: Alex Hinshaw 2
next up Stoffel, but been re-thinking Noonan for this spot. Had a much better 2nd half and brought the Ks way down over the last 2 months. He could be a breakout player in 2010.
Noonan’s PA/Ks by month:
April: 81/20
May: 116/22
June: 82/20
July: 102/25
Aug: 96/6
Sept: 67/5
That’s a pretty dramatic reduction. something must’ve clicked for the kid.
