Giants Pursuing Kouzmanoff?
According to Bob Nightengale, via MLB Trade Rumors...
The SF Giants are talking to the Padres about 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff, but SD wants more than OF Fred Lewis and IF Kevin Frandsen
Makes perfect sense. Why play Ryan Garko at first when you can trade for a lesser player to take his lineup spot? It's like that time someone I brought a turkey sandwich to work and someone said, "Hey, I'll sell you this turkey sandwich that I dropped on the floor! Only $5.00!", and I immediately agreed because it made too much sense to pass up.
Rumors like this make me sad, and they cause computers to crash.

On a tangential note, I guess Henry Schulman is MIA at these Winter Meetings. Did I miss something?
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.
I was talking to a family friend who writes sporting news for the Chronicle. He said that this was the first year that the chron hasn’t sent someone to the WS b/c it seemed wrong after firing/laying off half the staff. Maybe its the same thing.

How so?
I don’t really see a comparison: Jackson is more advanced, but doesn’t have power and didn’t have a breakout season this year (his 2009 line was very close to his career line).

am I missing something, re: Austin Jackson? A year ago, he was the Yankees’ No. 1 prospect. He’s fast, he’s a good outfielder, and he’s done well in the high minors while being among the younger players in his leagues. The consensus seems to be that Jackson won’t become a superstar, and maybe he won’t. But I think that the combination of Scherzer and Jackson might wind up making this deal look pretty great for the Tigers, too.

I don’t think it was a bad deal for Detroit… Just a great one for the Yankees. Granderson is a star, and it’s not like NY was banking on Austin Jackson to succeed for them

I really like Granderson but star? Does a star suck badly against LHP? Eric Chavez had awful LHP splits too and he brought gold glove D at 3b. He wasn’t a star player though. Just a really really good one. I think Granderson is similar. Star player = Pujols, A-Rod etc…IMO.
Yeah
he’s not a star, though his charisma is off the charts. He’s a 3-4 win player in CF, which is very valuable.

In a stunning new development, Brian Sabean has agreed in principle to trade Madison Bumgarner and Thomas Neal for the best athlete in the Yankees’ system. Sources say Sabean was seen dancing in the halls upon sealing the deal, until informed that the player he was acquiring was, in fact, Cody Ransom.

Oops, Reply fail! As i said in the other post, i don’t really want to replace Travis Ishikawa for a hitter who actually hit worse than him last year. If you correct for park effects then Kouzmanoff is the better hitter but he’s still a poor hitter and quite a bit worse than Garko. He’s still a valuable player in that he can play ok defence at 3B but once you consider the effect of moving Sandoval to 1B he becomes a lot less valuable and not much of an upgrade over Garko. When you consider his salary i’d rather have Fred Lewis (who’s a similar value player for less money) and Kevin Frandsen.

Why we are throwing Garko under the bus and eagerly pursuing another first basemen? Obviously Garko had terrible number for SF last year, but if he hits like he has the past few years with Cleveland I think he will be a decent cog in the lineup. Don’t we have more pressing needs than to replace an average 1B with another average 1B?
Two things
1) Sabean and Bochy both love to freak out over SSS.
2) Ryan Garko isn’t that good anyway, so whatever.

Haven’t we overblown the criticisms about Garko’s defense? It’s not like he’s running around out there with no arms. Other than the play where he cut off a throw to home that would have gotten Helton at the plate (a game I was at, and Todd fucking Helton most certainly would have been out), I don’t recall him making any mistakes in the field.

I was at Safeway across the ballpark on my break, last winter. At the checkout line, who else, but Sabes himself buying a bottle of orange juice. I really wanted to congratulate his crew on the draft. Right when I said, “Hey Mr. Sabean….”, he looked right at me and straight took off without his juice. WTF was that all about? I didn’t have my LUNATIC FRINGE shirt on.

The fact that you even knew who he was indicated that you are at least a semi knowledgeable Giants/baseball fan. Sabean was clearly intimidated by this, realizing that you were one of the people who knows he is a complete hack. Sabean knows that he is good at appeasing the casual fans into thinking the likes of Aaron Rowand and Kouzmanoff are the types of players that win championships, but he knew he could not get past your immense baseball knowledge.

Thought he played quite well at 3b and now that he is 109lbs lighter this season
If by a -6.4 UZR/150, which was near the bottom for all third basement, then yes —quite well.
I know it’s a losing argument to claim “I don’t care about stats, I know what my eyes see” especially on this site. I just find it hard to believe Panda was one of the worst third baseman in the league last year. He seemed average at worst and quite often made some great plays.
Plus, why put him through the trouble of Panda Camp and make him lose weight and then just move him to a position that’s less demanding? Isn’t it possible he’d lose the motivation to keep his weight down, then?
"Those that drink the Kool-Aid, please leave the room."
If so, then my eyes saw something completely different than yours. When I saw him he had quick reflexes, strong arm, no range. Average plays in the hole between short and third, he couldn’t get to—which would be fine if we had a SS who could get to them.
At least he is young and has the potential to improve through more reps and being in better shape. But whether he plays third or first, he still needs to get in better shape. Remember, he’s trying to lose fat, not weight. If he replaces that fat with bulk he’s gonna see results, which is plenty of motivation.
I am somewhat of a stathead, and I think UZR is a very useful stat, but you need to aknowledge its limitations. I think we are all aware Pablo’s range is limited, we don’t need statistics to tell us that. But also consider that he was new to the position and very overweight. As he learns the position better (positioning himself and improving footwork) and continues to lose weight, his range is going to improve. And as you mentioned, he has the natural tools that 3rd basemen need: Quick reflexes and a cannon right arm (and left arm as well.) He made some amazing plays last year. Those plays against the Rockies on the one hoppers to his right where he got the ball while sliding to his right, 360 pivoted, and threw to first were incredible, and the play against the mariners where Ichiro hit a chopper over his head and he threw the runner out at home was as good as it gets. UZR cannot measure the merit of those plays. I think Pablo is an amazing athlete, he has just stunted his athletic ability due to weight issues, and moving him to first would be a waste of his athleticism

The Marlins might be trading Dan Uggla before the end of the winter meetings, a source familiar with talks involving the infielder said.
The source said four teams are in on Uggla, adding the Giants would need to step up if they’re seriously interested in adding him to the heart of their lineup. The teams have had ongoing talks, but it’s believed nothing has been hot and heavy in Indy.
With Pablo Sandoval penciled in as the cleanup hitter, the Giants need complementary players to bat third and fifth. Uggla would be a nice fit, but the Giants are hesitant to trade any young pitching.
With starter Brad Penny leaving the Giants to sign with St. Louis, the Giants are less willing to part with Jonathan Sanchez. Uggla has two years remaining on his contract, after which he could be a free agent. If the Marlins wait until the July 31 trade deadline to move Uggla, it’s unlikely his value will be as high as now.
With Uggla, the Giants would have defensive options. Sandoval would be moved to first. Uggla is a second baseman, but the Giants might see him a better fit at third, with Freddy Sanchez sticking at second.

I’ve just confirmed a tweet from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale that the Giants and Padres had discussions about a trade for San Diego third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff in which infielder Kevin Frandsen would head south.
But the Padres have little interest in Fred Lewis, who was rumored to be part of discussions. San Diego already has a glut of left-handed hitting outfielders. They’re searching for pitching instead.
Could Frandsen and someone like Kevin Pucetas be enough to make a deal for Kouzmanoff, who’s due a raise in arbitration? Perhaps. But the Giants also are averse to trading any upper-level pitching depth after losing Brad Penny.
Both Frandsen and Lewis would welcome a change of scenery. That much is for sure.

Renteria and Rowand would have to come back and up their stats for this to work
I think that this was the type of lineup that WOULD work and what Boch had in mind IF Renteria and Rowand where hitting with men on base and producing the clutch hit and also take the now obviously heavy load of being the ONLY offensive threat in the line up (Sandoval). I like this line up IF those too come back and hit really well throughout the year, not just streaks that neither can synchronize between them.
Rowand is an eternally average hitter
I wouldn’t count on much of a bump from him.

i think the difference between rowand and kouzmanoff is in room for improvement. rowand came from a place where his numbers were inflated. kouzmanoff (who is younger) is coming from a place where his numbers have stagnated. there are so many examples of young guys getting a change of venue and showing their real worth (carlos pena, carlos quentin, garret jones, et al)after flaming out or losing their prospect status with their original clubs. if it only cost flew and frandsen, why not do it? we need a 3rd/ 1st baseman…kouz plays decent defense, is cheap, and has a chance to improve…i say do it

Also, according to USA Today, the Giants are talking with the Padres about third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and the Padres want more than Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen.
But manager Bruce Bochy said, “That rumor is not even close.” On a team full of low on-base percentages, Kouzmanoff would fit right in. His OBP in 2009 was .302. Career, .308.

Eugenio Velez stands to get the lion’s share of playing time as the leadoff hitter, although he and Andres Torres could be in the lineup on the same day. Bochy hopes Velez can increase his unimpressive OBP and patience as he gains experience.
Fred Lewis is not a candidate to lead off, even though he’s one of few high-OBP guys on the roster. Lewis will fight for a job in the spring.

Hoping a hitter will suddenly transform into another type of hitter worked great last year, when they were hoping Fred Lewis would become an aggressive power hitter.

Have you guys read the story about how this story came to be?
Apparently a group of guys were arguing about whether 40 midgets could beat up a lion. One guy was absolutely convinced that the midgets would win. So the other guys, for a goof, made this story using another BBC story as a template, put it on the internet and showed it to their friend. Evidently the guy believed it and was pretty crestfallen, muttering something like, “Man, I really thought they could beat it.”
I thought they were saying some good things but then I saw this and cried.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
Yeah but maybe you could pull a Mets and only complete the deal if Gonzalez agrees to an extension first.
ONLY two more years?
That’s an eternity in baseball years, and it gives the Giants an opportunity to free base on their drug of choice: WIN NOW. Banking on pitchers to last for years and years is a whole lot of stupid, so the window of riding Lincecum and Cain (and Sanchez, I suppose) won’t be open for very long. Rather than trade for spare parts, I’d rather my team trades for a whole car.

You’re talking about 12 years of MadBum and Neal for 2 years of Gonzalez. It’s a steep price to pay. I’m not necessarily saying I wouldn’t do it under any circumstances but it’s a lot to give up for one player.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
That’s assuming that either Mad Bum or Neal even fucking pan out. That’s one issue I have with perceived value of prospects. There’s no guarantee that they can even make the majors let alone last 6 years in them.
And we’re talking about the Giants here, so it’s almost a given that they’re not going to pan out sadly enough to say.
of course there isn't
There also isn’t any guarantee that Adrian Gonzalez is going to repeat his 2009 in ’10 and ’11. He was obviously fantastic last year, but he was only a (still very good) 3-4 win player the three years before that.
And was it a given that Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum and Jonathan Sanchez weren’t going to pan out? I must have missed that.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
I’d bank on Gonzalez continuing to play this well. He’s been getting better not worse. True, he could plateau but even then you have an elite level player who would enhance the Giants fortunes well enough to put them in the playoffs, which is the idea right?
What good is all of our pitching prospects if we never are going to have an offense to score runs. This offense has been dreadful for years. We’re going to waste the best years of our pitching staff behind a 3 run a game offense. Taking a risk might be necessary. Not that Sabean can be expected to do any outside of the box type of thinking.
Trading two top prospects for a great hitter is outside the box thinking?
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
I can understand your desperate desire for a top hitter in the lineup, but I just can’t personally advocate giving up Bumgarner, Neal + for one player.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
boston could come oer the top for any deal for agon that wouldn’t include Bum, Neal +, especially in division
But you’re willing to put trust in the Giants farm system though to develop quality players for the ML roster?
Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, Sandoval and Wilson all seem pretty okay.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
True. But only one of them is a hitter. Which is what we need badly. And have for years. I have hope for Neal and Posey, but my god this team (all bay area teams) are frustrating as fuck.
If you increase runs scored or decrease runs allowed, you win more games. When it comes down to measuring the Giants’ farm products, a 3-WAR pitcher is worth just as much as a 3-WAR hitter.
Lethargy
It has me
yes but
if you already have 5 2+ win starters, and only 2 2+ win hitters, a 3 win hitter >>>>>>>>>>>>>> a 3 win pitcher.

at this point
I don’t see why the Giants don’t see what they can get with Posey, Bumgarner, and all their other prospects. I mean, what does it matter how good you system is when you don’t know how to use it.
The whole point is to build from the draft, but all they’ve done this off season is focus on blocking the players they’ve developed. And, even if they don’t block their players they reward the wrong “prospect”(Velez, Ortmeier, Burris) that everyone else besides them can see is undeserving. Plus they don’t even know how to let young players succeed in the majors. Sandoval being the lone exception, but Bochy misuses him too by refusing to give him a day off, until he hurts himself.
So basically I don’t care anymore(really just right this second because I’m pissed off) about the Giants protecting their prospects. Might as well trade them for something good like AGON instead of F. Sanchez.
God I hate this team.
So, you’re impatient and you want the Giants to make ill-advised decisions because of it. Cool.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
the thing is
other than Sandoval, we really haven’t had hitting prospects of the same caliber as Posey (and, pending how well he does in 2010, Neal). And they handled Sandoval right. I’m guessing most of what they’re saying about Posey is mostly posturing.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
it was ment with sarcasm
I don’t really want to trade Posey, or any top prospect really. I was just ranting about my frusteration with the team refusing to play their best hitting prospect, but at the same time rewarding players like Velez and Torres.
I have always wanted the Giants to be a team that builds from within. So the post was meant to be sarcastic in that their finally starting to give young guys a chance, but they give the wrong guys the opportunities.
No doubt, and there's a lot of "save them from themselves" medicine at play, too...
Emptying the system for a great player like A-Gon would enable them to continue to block young players and sign cheaper vets, only this time, they might not be terrible options to compliment a decent core.
I realize I am sort of advocating the Giants go back to business as usual, but since they have really not been able to shake that old habit of crusty vets around young pitching, why not play to their strength for once?

Seriously, I wonder if there’s a way to do reverse MLEs. My guess at this crew’s AA slashies:
Velez – .280/.330/.450
Sanchez – .320/.350/.420
Kouzmanoff – .270/.340/.550
Sandoval – .370/.450/.620
Olivo – .270/.280/.450
Rowand – .290/.350/.470
Schierholtz – .320/.350/.480
Renteria – .280/.330/.430
I think that would be an above-average offense in the majors, but it isn’t as good as it should be.
this site work both ways: MLE calc
Velez’s 2009 translate to Conn: .317/.374/.496
Sandoval: .400/.479/.710, barely even Bondsian.
And that’s Conn/Eastern League. Panda in the Texas League: .423/.502/.754. I could live with that.

Season 3 was pretty disappointing. A lot of the supporting characters that really enriched the show were marginalized. Kinsey, Cosgrove, Campbell, even Peggy. It was like they thought Betty and Don were the only characters left that could have compelling stories and then just tossed in Roger and Hilton to spice up Don’s life. Betty lost tons of sympathy at the end of season 2 and did nothing to earn it back. The end of the Rome episode really soured me on Betty and I don’t know how I’ll be able to root for her again. Damn shame. The season 3 finale was boss, though. I cannot wait for next season.

Feliz would be a nice start for them but they would probably want more.

The Giants are interested in second baseman Orlando Hudson, major league sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com
For what purpose? Are they really thinking of moving Sanchez to another position?
"It appears that Sabean is playing a game of chicken with Neukom wherein he elucidates the most outrageous things he could do as ML GM without getting fired." - cornball
Sanch can play 3b
He played full time there in 06, to decent UZR results
Desirous of Matt Holliday and Dan Uggla since 2009.
his bat doesn't play at third
either move him to SS, or leave him be, dagnabbit!
2b and 3b are basically equal in terms of defensive difficulty (even though third basemen have historically been better hitters). That’s not the problem. The problem is Hudson’s bat doesn’t play at 1B (or more accurately, is not better than Garko’s). This whole idea would improve the defense somewhat but the offense not a jot. I guess, if they non-tender Garko and they can get Hudson for what the Dogs paid him last year, it improves the team a smidge for not much money.
I just do not see the necessity of going after Hudson this year. It’s as if they feel bad for not going after him last year.

Rosenthal hears that Sabean has at least considered signing Jason Bay.
STEVE HOLM! refuses to be the odd man out.
I think it’s going to be way too much in terms of both years and dollars, and his defense eats up a fair portion of his value. That said, he’s from BC and apparently was really hot to sign with the M’s. So it could be that he’s willing to give a small discount to other more distant West Coast teams as well.
I guess I’d be happier about even a bad deal to Bay than I would any Jermaine Dye signing. /faint praise
Would rather want Holliday. His market does not seem to be as much as previously assumed.

Honestly. Boras is probalby waiting for the dust to settle and for one big money team (Boston) to get desperate. However, if you’re willing to spend to get Bay, you’re much better off signing Holliday for just a little bit more.
Joe Martinez: You are cool.

I'd Take it if Bay Replaces Velez/Torres Stupidity in LF

Is that he’s a good enough hitter that you could feasibly sign ONLY him, stay pat everywhere else, and your lineup looks much better.
Rowand CF
Sanchez 2B

Schierholtz RF
Posey C

Who said we would be overpaying? Bullshit MLB rumors?
Maybe teams really are asking Sabean for the moon these days, but nobody thinks Uggla is worth Jonathan Sanchez or Madison Bumgarner. Either the rumors are speculative bullshit or the Marlins don’t take the Giants as a suitable trade partner.
I mean remember when everyone thought the Nats were asking for a ton for Nick Johnson and the Giants backed out? Then the Marlins got him for peanuts. I’m going to laugh when the Marlins trade Uggla away for the equivalent of Kevin Frandsen and a bullpen arm.
How do you know this isn’t just posturing on the part of the Giants to get the Marlins to drop their price? If they’re really insisting on MadBum or Sanchez and they won’t budge, it seems like a good time to turn away and see if that helps.

So she won’t talk or text me, because she’s just been starting fights every time we talk lately. But apparently my friends have told me this girl across the street digs me, and i’m not stupid i ain’t touchin that. But yea, very interesting this past week

Her’s, because she feels that not talking to me would help her out… haha, i told her she wouldn’t last a week
So she wants it to work out. How do you feel?
I don't know anything about minor league players, so I adopted the Coke Bottle, and it's totally grown on me.
'The longer I do this the smarter I get' --Brian Sabean
Yea, i’m cool with it, whatever way helps her, because honestly, who likes fighting with their girl?
Remember:
the fighting is coming from a lack of communication between you. Isolation isn’t gonna make that better, it’s just going to put it off. Unless you guys actually think about how to communicate better when you get back together, nothing will change.
I don't know anything about minor league players, so I adopted the Coke Bottle, and it's totally grown on me.
'The longer I do this the smarter I get' --Brian Sabean
Good point, i like it, and you know, the good thing about our relationship is that we actually do get our feelings out and talk about it without a problem. But here’s the problem at school, i have over 100 friends, not all i would hang out with all the time, but still enough to just hang and talk with a little. She doesnt have much, so we’re always talking, and always going out on the weekends because she doesnt have that connection of friends
I can understand that, but when you’re in a relationship, your friends are her friends. If she doesn’t like them, or can’t get along with them, it’ll only be more trouble later.
I don't know anything about minor league players, so I adopted the Coke Bottle, and it's totally grown on me.

Also remember disagreements will happen, its how you deal with them that matters.
I fight almost weekly with my fiance, sometime serious fights occur long term. But I love this women so damn much, that I couldn’t picture a life w/o her.
Also, any couples who claim they don’t fight are usually full of shit and/or on the verge of a breakup.

Yea, exactly, if you don’t fight with your woman, somethings wrong, because i’ve never heard that happen. My friend here at school broke up with his girl 4 months ago though, after being together for a year (break up had to do with, she stopped loving him) and he’s still hung up on her… and he’s said some extremely degrading things to her and her new guy… I’ll never be someone that takes it that seriously, nor will i be someone who gets physical

Well if we’re really gonna do this, here is my advice, PIKAgiant. Break up with her. Trust me. She wants to ignore you for three fucking weeks? Dump her now, and do it quick.

She wants to ignore me because she feels it’d be best for her to clear her mind and not use me. Because that’s what i’ve been getting, all that built up anger at everything gets thrown at me, and most of the time i dont care, it’s when she asks for a better response i get pissed, sine she rarely likes the responses i give… eh, whatever, i’ll deal with it, it’s her that i feel wont be able to

Immature people in general make those kinds of excuses. It’s selfish- and I’ve personally never found ignoring the problem to be a good way of handling things. Just look at Bruce Bochy. “I don’t want to communicate with you for three weeks” sounds an awful lot like “Molina is a much better option than Posey BORK”

guys seem to want to solve problems…. women sometimes just want to vent – we’re not necessarily telling you our problems for you to solve them for us, sometimes it is just venting.
When I’m in that frame of mind I tell Mr. Merope “I just need you to listen, you don’t have actually DO anything else.”
On the other hand I will say “I need your help with this problem.” To indicate when an answer or solution is desired.
Yea for sure, i definitely see that, but in my situation, if i don’t say the right thing, like if i only say “oh i’m sorry” or “oh no”, her response is “that’s all you can say?” where on the other hand, when i say something or complain about something, she’ll just say “oh no”
I guess you just have to take a critical look at the relationship. What are you really getting out of it? Are you putting more into the relationship than you are getting out of it?
One of the biggest challenges in a relationship, especially with you younger folks, is that you are both still growing and developing as individuals. You could grow together… or you could grow in totally different directions…
let's see...
if she starts a fight every time you talk, I don’t think that’s punishment…

Joe Martinez: You are cool.
When it's all said and done, America will be remembered for three things: The Bill of Rights, jazz, and baseball.
Just be wary man. I mean, respect her need for some space, obviously. Three weeks is a long time, though, and you’re going to need to talk to her about what’s going on (beyond the not-talking idea) before too long. Be ready for that.
Joe Martinez: You are cool.
When it's all said and done, America will be remembered for three things: The Bill of Rights, jazz, and baseball.
Yep, for sure, i mean we went 3 months or so without seeing eachother since that was summer break and all… but we still talked… Just recently, she feels she’s been starting fights with me and stuff, and is being bitchy. So all i did was say “ok, sure” and let it slide
There is a difference between wanting space and wanting 3 weeks away from you… Without so much as a text message (about as impersonal as you can get). You’re with the wrong girl

Well, here’s the thing, this is my first relationship, and we’ve been together for over a year or so. Buster Posey Game #100, 2010:
Jon Miler: “And Cain throws the first pitch of the game and LOOKOUT! The ball sails right past Posey’s glove and hit the umpire in the chest. The head umpire shakes it off and gives Posey a new ball… and the ball just slipped right out of Posey’s outscretched hand. Unusual beginning. Posey picks up the ball and tosses the ball to… the left fielder Eugenio Velez. What the heck is going on with rookie sensation Buster Posey? Now he’s dancing. He’s removed his catcher gear and is doing the chicken dance on home plate. Bochy better pull this guy, he obviously can’t catch 100 games in a season.”
"It's too late now."
For those wondering about Correia...
While Kouzmanoff was prominently involved in rumored deals with the San Francisco Giants and Minnesota Twins, Correia’s agent, Barry Axelrod, held a “productive” 45-minute meeting with general manager Jed Hoyer in Indianapolis and headed home with a contract offer.
Axelrod, who headed home a day early to beat a blizzard forecast for Wednesday, said he expects further discussions regarding Correia-- who went 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA in a team-high 33 starts-- later in the week.
“Nothing’s final, but we’re in the process of talking about a deal,” Axelrod said by phone. “The proposal was not jumped at, but we’ll talk again. … Kevin’s choice is to stay in San Diego for a variety of reasons. The only reason (he’d leave) would be if he was not compensated appropriately.”
One source said the two sides are not discussing a multiyear deal. The Padres probably want to see more success from Correia, who has a 26-33 career record, but flourished in his first season working with pitching coach Darren Balsley and manager Bud Black after signing a minor-league deal last offseason.
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.
Maybe I'm being generous or delusional
But I’m very happy with the moves Sabean HASN’T made up until now. Would it have surprised anyone if we gave Pudge that deal? Or gave up too much for Kouz/Uggla?

.287 .323 .455 .778
Those are Kouzmanoff’s numbers away from Petco last year.
And looks like he was a plus with the glove.
I don’t mind this much, as Pablo was above average in the field at 1B.
Of course this would mean no Nick Johnson.
Perhaps it means he’s going to give Bowker another shot.

11:29pm: Ed Price of AOL FanHouse hears that the Angels are exploring a trade for an infielder. Price’s source says the infielder is likely Maicer Izturis, but could also be Howie Kendrick.

Anyone around here have thoughts on Firefox vs. Google Chrome? I’m a longtime FF user who’s had no trouble with it at all. (I use only the Twitter and Gmail extensions.)
Just tried Chrome, though, on the advice of friends. It’s faster but seems to be a little buggy on McC.
Used FF, converted to Chrome, converted back.
FF is the superior browser if you’re running any kind of decent computer. Chrome has its place if you’re on a slow machine or only do basic browsing, but FF is more intuitive and enjoyable.
Desirous of Matt Holliday and Dan Uggla since 2009.
Chrome is really fast, but still has some kinks to work out at the moment. Once it gets more stable and gets extensions/addons, I imagine a lot of people will switch to it. I use Opera though.

I use both, depending on my mood. I like Chrome’s clean interface and, as GiantPain and Natto say, it’s faster. Much faster. For some reason, the first time I click on the Firefox icon after a fresh boot, it takes freaking 40 seconds to actually launch. I disabled all add-ons (not that I have all that many) to see if that was the issue, but it didn’t really help.
And besides, add-ons are what make Firefox indispensable. I in particular rely on AdBlock and DownloadHelper, and I’ve just recently discovered Ghostery.

I used to be a Firefox fanboy, but v3 gave me a ton of problems that I was never able to rectify. It was deleting my history, forgetting about plug-ins I’d installed. No, I did not have a virus. It was bizarre. I switched to Chrome and I’m really happy with it. The lack of add-ons sucks, but it’s already pretty immune to pop-ups and automatically downloads plug-ins. It also scans every link for you for safety. And it’s fast.

Does anybody know where one can find those spray charts for individual hitters, such as the one of Damon that demonstrated how his power would drop precipitously upon playing many more games at Mays Field?
Specifically I’m wondering about Dan Uggla, but a general link to reference for all hitters would be nice.

also you can find them on mlb.com

Uggla's power would transfer extremely well to AT&T
All of his home runs, basically, are to left, where Land Shark is actually about 20 feet farther out.
Hitting chart: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?c_id=fla&playerID=462564&statType=1
Uggla actually has a ton of flyouts on the warning track that would be HR’s in ATT. It would not be surprising to see him increase his HR totals by 5-10 if he came here.

Thanks all. Is there a weather effect increasing longitude (that better be the right one)? Or is my thinking it’s similar to the AZ situation skewed because of humidity?
Lethargy

The two stadia have virtually identical left field dimensions. However, Land Shark is notorious for its terrible hitter’s backdrop and the humidity can certainly dampen power.

Latest from Shea and Baggs
Pitcher Ben Sheets’ agent, Casey Close, plans to meet with the Giants.
Good.
Club and industry sources said the Giants are hoping to sign one from among the following pool of infielders: first baseman Nick Johnson, third baseman Adrian Beltre and versatile Mark DeRosa. They would play DeRosa at third, allowing Freddy Sanchez to remain at second.
One other possibility, second baseman Orlando Hudson, brings enough defensive upside that it might be worth moving Sanchez to third and Sandoval to first. First baseman Adam LaRoche is a back-burner option.
I wouldn’t prioritize DeRosa and LaRoche, but that FA list is serviceable. Guess we’ll have to improve the OF from within.
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.
i approve of most of these choices
i’d prefer no derosa and laroche should be a last-ditch option, but johnson or beltre would be great with me.

and i really do think we have the pieces to improve the outfield from within
not entirely sure the giants will use the right ones, of course, but… hey Thomas Neal will be ready by July right???

Don't worry
We already have our cornerstone budding superstar OF.

BOWKERMANIA RETURNS!!!?
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.
The Giants are looking to add thump to their lineup, but not if it leads to more clanks in their infield.
haha Baggs has to be giving a shoutout to McC again there with the use of “clanks”
YOU EAT YOUR DAMN EGGROLL
how picky can the team afford to be?
is there youth + thump + good defense + corner infielder (+ OBP) + affordable asking price/term available in the free agent or trade markets? No. There’s no perfect attainable player(s) out there.
At some point, the team may have to sacrifice some defense or youth or OBP or money to get a upgrade in offense. Hopefully, it’ll be a net overall upgrade, but the it may just be marginal once you start sacrificing quality.
Or they can just go with internal options and take the lumps that come with that.
