do we need another meh outfielder? signing him would limit bowker’s ab’s (again). id rather have someone in the org say that rf or lf is bowker’s to lose and give him a legit shot in the regular season, and not just st

Which one of our LH outfielders is a career .272/.345/.441 hitter?

Or hit better than .273/.338/.384 last season?

I mean other than Fred “The Red-headed Stepchild” Lewis, sob.

Age Matters

The numbers you quote are peak numbers. The projection systems seem to like all three Giants better. For example Chone has Bowker, Schierholtz, Lewis at Off/Def of 6/3, -1/3, and -6/3 respectively vs Church at -4/0 which puts the Giants 13, 6, and 1 runs respectively better then Church.

Defensive stats are problematic enoug with significant sample sizes

Nevermind PROJECTIONS based on less than a season of data. Talking about 2009, UZR still loves Church in the corners. As for age, you’re right that it matter, but it would matter alot more if we were talking about 22/23 year olds instead of 25/26 year olds (in Schierholtz and Bowker) and a 30/31 year old in Lewis.

At the end of the day, however, the GIants have two corener outfield spots, and I’d be VERY surprised if both Bowker and Nate turned into respectable starts.

If we want a(nother) lefthanded outfielder . . .

. . . why not trade for David Dejesus from the Royals?

Bats leadoff. Plays a pretty good LF (as I understand it; I don’t follow the AL). Last year he hit .281/.347/.434. Careerwise he’s at .286/.358/.425.

Yeah, he’s under contract and we’d have to trade for him, but MLBTradeRumors said that KC was listening to offers on him. And if you can’t trust MLBTR, who can you trust?

Insert witty signature of your own choosing here.

I’m happy with my current church, thank you.
