why is matt cain giving up more run despite having fewer hits and walks than he did this year?

and ugh @ MadBum having Bad Zito stats

"My friend once told me a story about San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum. He said his cousin went out to a bar in San Francisco and saw Lincecum there. He went up to him to give him a handshake.

Lincecum refused. He didn’t want to give him a handshake. He wanted to give him a chest bump."

I would have to assume because it is projecting that is stranded runner rate will regress

The Giants’ 1-4 starters have a combined R over Rep that’s projected 8th overall. This is just based on current rosters (i.e. no FAs like Lackey, Wolf or Pettitte):

CWS – 148
NYY – 141
PHI – 139
ATL – 136
KC – 134
ARI – 131
BOS – 130
SFG – 129
COL – 120
TOR – 118

Timmy and CC (57) are tied for 3rd best RoR behind Halladay and Greinke (60)

CC + AJ + Halladay + Pettitte = 183 (aaarggghhhh!)

If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.

by esseffgeez on Dec 5, 2009 11:57 AM PST reply actions

Also by RoR, the top 1-2 combos:

Lincecum/Cain (SFG) – 93
Sabathia/Burnett (NYY) – 89
Greinke/Meche (KC) – 88
Lester/Beckett (BOS) – 85
Lee/Hamels (PHI) – 85

If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.

by esseffgeez on Dec 5, 2009 4:28 PM PST up reply actions

And to round it off, the top 1-3’s:

Sabathia/Burnett/Chamberlain (NYY) – 116
Lee/Hamels/Blanton (PHI) – 115
Lincecum/Cain/Sanchez (SFG) – 114
Buehrle/Peavy/Danks (CHW) – 113
Vazquez/Jurrjens/Hanson (ATL) – 111

Obligatory LOLZito

all position players. Technically its for all position players for which I had salary data, but details . . .

I don’t currently have enough sample to really do a meaningful age comparison by position. Maybe after I’m done doing my salary project, I’ll come back to it .

Anyway these kinds of projections, although maybe useful for evaluating players in fantasy leagues, are totally speculative, and are about as useful to the real world as a blown-up crystal meth. lab.

When I saw him on here, it reminded me that Keith Law thinks Palalozzo is one of the only good targets for teams in the rule 5 draft this year.
