As bad as the contract Zito is, at least he’s a productive player who has stayed healthy thus far.

Zito’s contract, by it’s length alone is far worse than Andruw Jones’s 2 year deal. easily.

I feel bad for Jason Schmidt. He could not recognize his own hubris at a pivotal moment? WE CREATED HIM…and he betrayed us. The powers that be could not stand for such insolence.

Zito could end up with one of those stat lines commentators love to throw at veterans when he finishes this “not the worst contract.” 13-14 years of double digit wins. A career ERA below 4. It seemed to me that last year he did a decent 3rd best starter at best routine. If he can get his peripherals a little better and his ERA a little lower, the contract looks less ridiculous. Still bad, and probably limits the real impact players the Giants could get in FA, but less ridiculous than paying Schmidt or Driefort $5million+ per win.

ROWAND should be on the list
Rowand’s contract is both high, and overvalued. Also he is superfluous. We just did not need him. All he is doing is sucking money out of the Neukom coffers.
How can you possibly argue Rowand’s contract compares to someone like Gary Matthews Jr.? I hate Rowand’s contract, too, and I’m not a fan of Rowand the player, but he does give us some value, whereas Matthews doesn’t even play because he’s so bad…
