Despite Arrested Development’s brilliance, I have to agree with this.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
Me and my wife have been blazing through season 1 of Mad Men. I really like the show so far. For some weird reason, I kinda like Pete even though his character is pretty unlikeable.
I only saw season two
But it seemed to me that while Pete is messed up, Don is a real dick, considering that he’s supposed to likable.

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected
The book was very bleak and dark so that sounds like a good start. I’m skeptical, but “No Country” is another McCarthy book that I thought translated very well to the screen, I’ll have to check it out.
Thing A
"No Country " did translate well because they had the coen brothers doing it
This was beyond bleak, and there were moments that almost everyone in the theater couldn’t watch. I heard people crying in the theater. I was pretty close at some parts too, not because it was sad, but really because it was hard to watch. No Country’s adaptation was much easier to watch. I will never watch the “Road” again because it would be hard to forget some of the images that movie had, but i will still rec it to you, because it is a good movie.

I thought ‘the Road’ translated better on film. I didn’t like “No Country” the movie.
"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
The story of the Road wasn’t that difficult to tell. It was more about isolation & the battle of staying righteous in the worst conditions. No Country had a longer story & more meaning behind it. No Country the movie was bound to not capture everything.
"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
What other complaints do you have about No Country? Would you have liked it if you didnt read it first?

Not saying that your opinion is invalid, but you are literally the first person I have ever heard say that Season 2 was their favorite. It was my least favorite, and by a good margin. Just Ziggy himself brought that season down a few pegs for me.
Seriously though, my favorite season was season 4. That was the season that really put that series over the top for me.
thanks
for not invalidating my opinion.
I find the decline of industrial America (which consists of like 90% of its land area outside the Bay Area) a very interesting topic, and the effects on the working class poorly addressed in most media (if not totally overlooked). On a more mundane note, it was interesting to see a show featuring pursuit and capture of white drug pushers.
Finally, I was totally underwhelmed by the total shift away from the “corner boys” at first, and just as blown away by the whole season. It’s what changed that show from just another cop vs. gangstazzz to something totally different and interesting. The ending montage of that series with Ziggy’s brother looking over the fence as the condos are dynamited is one of the most powerful I’ve seen.
But, that’s just my opinion.

actually that might not be correct. I saw the Exorcist when it was remastered. I think that was 1999 or 2000. Watched it in Paul Allen’s theater in Seattle that had the best sound system in the world or something. Pretty cool it was.

From Wiki:
At the end of the series, it is revealed that Tyler’s 2008 and 1973 realities were both fictitious, created by the onboard computer of a spacecraft that is carrying Tyler, Hunt, Norris, Carling, and Skelton on the first ever manned mission to the planet Mars, in 2035… To sustain the crew, their minds were routinely kept active while asleep using virtual reality “neural stimulation” programs of their own choosing, but Sam’s choice of a scenario where he was a police officer circa 2008 was abruptly changed to a 1973 setting by a meteor-storm induced glitch in the computer.

"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
Yeah, that is true. Didn’t really think about that…

Yeah, beyond the obvious (AJ and Armando), I really disliked him as a Giant. I don’t care what his numbers were, good or bad, I just did not enjoy watching him pitch.

I really enjoyed reading these. But when you get here this late in the thread, you risk repeating. So I’ll try to be original and do a list without repeats.
1. Favorite/Best Giant?
Rich Aurilia, if we’re considering the whole decade.
2. Worst/Least favorite Giant?
Hard to be original here, as there are two obvious options. To be different, I’ll go with Tsuyoshi Shinjo for the combination of high hopes and terrible returns.
3. Favorite non-Giant?
Nick Johnson. Gotta love a guy with Pujolsian OBP without the IBBs.
4. Least favorite non-Giant?
Sooo many choices. I’m going to go with Jimmy Rollins, for constantly acting like the star he’s not.
5. Best TV show(s)?
To be honest, my favorite shows of the decade have all been mentioned. But curiously overlooked is The West Wing.
6. Best movie(s)?
High Fidelity. Don’t make fun of me.
7. Best book(s)?
The Da Vinci Code. Mock if you want, but it made reading popular again for adults early in the decade, and I’m down with that.
8. Best album(s) or song(s)?
Best Album: I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning by Bright Eyes.
Song: Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes
9. Best game or sporting event? (not even gonna ask about least favorite)
Game 6 of the 2003 World Series. No Giants involved, but I loved watching one of the biggest underdogs of all time win IN New York.
10. Miscellaneous (I’m sure I missed something obviously discussion worthy)
Saddest Sacks of the Decade: Pittsburgh Pirates
Hopin' to adopt Mark DeRosa.
I watched a ton of WW.
It’s contributory to my Charlie Sheen tirades.

jimmy rollins?
idk, he seems like a pretty likeable guy, not a douche or anything, plus BAY AREA TIES
A completely undeserving MVP
And talks like he’s so wonderful, when he actually has one of the worst OBPs for a leadoff hitter in the league.
Hopin' to adopt Mark DeRosa.
He’s been a great player for the past five years or so, 2009 aside, and he’ll probably go back to being great next year. Also, his 2007 really was fantastic, if not MVP worthy. It should have gone to Utley or Wright, but it’s not one of the worst decisions we’ve seen in the past few years.
I was promised lasagna.
1. Favorite Timmy Hanley Ramirez. Not only a great player, but told the Mets the Marlins would beat them and keep them from the playoffs, and then did it two years in a row.
2. Least Favorite -Armando
3. Favorite non-giant
4. least favorite- ARod. Does steroids and comes up smelling like a rose.
5. TV shows- Dexter, Sopranos, Oz, Two and a half men, House, Curb, Big Love, True Blood
6. Movies- Dark Knight, Hangover
7. Books- don’t read much. “Please Kill Me” was the only book I read this year and it wasn’t written this decade.
8. Best Album- Waiting for the Siren’s Call-New Order Hot Fuss-Killers
9. Best game- The game clincher against the Braves in 2002. Nen striking out Sheffield and getting the DP from Chipper is my favorite baseball moment.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

2. Least favorite Giant: AJ
3. Favorite non-Giant: Roy Halladay
4. Least favorite non-Giant: Roger Clemens
5. TV show: The Office
6. Movies: Wall-E, Gladiator, Lord of the Rings trilogy
7. Book: Harry Potter
8. Album: eh… I’m not that into music
9. Best game by sport:
Baseball- 2002 NLCS game 4
Football- Giants v. Patriots Super Bowl, I guess
Soccer- 08 Champions League Final, 05 Champions League Final
"Any time I watch a game on television, I have to turn the commentators off. They say 'he's playing well' and I'm thinking 'no, he's not.' My advice to anyone is don't listen to the experts, just watch the game and gather your own opinion."
-Roy Keane
1. Favorite/Best Giant? Bonds
2. Worst/Least favorite Giant? I love all my Giants, in all shapes and sizes
