NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Yes, Brian Sabean could do worse than Brad Ausmus as a stop-gap and mentor to Buster Posey. My great fear however is that Ausmus has a nice start to the season and Bochy locks him in. Then after 140 AB's he falls apart completely and Bochy keeps batting him 5th until late August, when he finally gives Posey a homestand to prove himself.
If we sign Ausmus, likelihood of this scenario?

And that would stop Bochy from following through with this nightmare scenario?
"…this thing which tells time."
Ausmus is not a good hitter
he would be signed for his mentoring and veteran grit.
Of 2000 games played he has spent more than 3 quarters hitting 7th or 8th. Even Bochy would not hit him higher than 8th at this point in his career.
In fact, I think this would actual signal the intention to have Posey start the season in the majors with Ausmus as the vet backup/mentor.
i'm in favor, actually
where are you going to find a better, smarter tutor for posey ? he can start once a week and hit 8th when he does. if used PROPERLY, he’s a perfect fit. ( i know… bork bork bork)
There’s probably no difference between Ausmus and Whiteside. I’d rather have a backup with a little more upside.
Ausmus is way cuter

Ausmus is probably a better defender, too.

I wouldn’t really care if we had Ausmus. He seems open to the back-up role.

A career slashline of .252/.325/.344 will do that to you.

Meh. Wouldn’t be a great pickup, but I think even Bochy would start Posey over Ausmus, right? RIGHT?

Already thinking ahead here…what would Bochy’s nickname for the dude be? Braddy? Aussy? Mussy? Brasamussy?
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.

I'd prefer Kendall b/c he's provide at least some offense
but it seems that the Org has decided that Posey will be the starter if they make this move. Signing a guy who should have retired a couple seasons ago for likely around the league minimum means the start of the Buster era.

Good article on him...

Unfortunately, I’ve always been secret Ausmus fan. Baseball savant, I say. I think he is the best “mentor” candidate out there.
