Christmas Gifts

First off, Merry Christmas (to those who celebrate it)  But here, we can discuss what everyones favorite Christmas gift is, and hopefully everyones Christmas was great, be thankful for family and friends.

I have to say that my favorite gift was 2 tix to the Niner game on Sunday, and a San Francisco Warrior Stephen Curry jersey, which looks pretty tight, but the other thing was just being home in the Bay Area at last, from school in Ohio, and getting DECENT grades... But yea, WHAT DID EVERYONE GET???

So that’s what Pika was talking about:
the Cavaliers beat Los Angeles 102-87 Friday in a game that ended with angry Lakers fans throwing dozens of giveaway foam hands onto the court.

I guess they didn’t like their presents.

Yea, that’s what i was talking about… STUPID LAKER FANS, STUPID LA FANS, think that they have every game in the bag, and when they don’t, the “SKY IS FALLING”

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 6:52 PM PST up reply actions

They were bitchy about the calls. The Cavs were up the whole game. At one point, it looked like they were calling only fouls on the Cavs. Kobe and his ring started whining about it, and it was on.

Favorite that I got: My husband cleaning the kitchen 3 times as I made 3 different meals from scratch …… so far
Favorite that I will get: We’re going shopping for some kind of smartphone for me tomorrow! Not sure whether it will be an iPhone or a Cliq or something else. The iPhone would be a lock if it weren’t for $100 a month in service. I think the Cliq will be about $50, which is close to what I’m paying for Virgin pay-as-you-go.
Also: A whole lot of cooking stuff (measuring cups, bamboo utensils, a lid for my cast-iron skillet), a check from my dad for clothes for work, a hand-beaded sculptural otter thing and some fuzzy socks with aloe in them somehow.

Still backing Notgardo, wheresoever he may wander. (Don't forget to wriiiite!)

My husband has an iPhone and I love it. That might be what I end up with …

Meals: Silver dollar pancakes for breakfast, duck curry for dinner (made my own curry paste … fun!) and dessert: poached pears in black tea and honey with mandarins. And now I’m done. Feet hurt. :D

I’m jealous about both… i have verizon, stuck with a blackberry, kinda want a touchscreen, so i can’t get a new phone until August… but i’m just not sure of the TYPE of touch screen for verizon… But the food sounds amazing, a successful day by you i would assume!

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 8:12 PM PST up reply actions

I love my Blackberry (AT&T). I’ve had various versions over the years, and really wouldn’t have any other phone. Using an 8900 right now. I am probably one the few people that doesn’t want a touch screen phone. What happens when the touch interface goes down ? Blackberry has “apps”, shoots video, has up to an 8Gb micro sdhc memory card for music. I don’t need much else.

iPhone, hands down.

IMO, of course: the single greatest consumer electronic device since the home computer. It is worth the added price. Also,I don’t know the plans, but $50 seems incredibly low for a smart phone. usually you are starting around $40 a month for the data plan alone…Spring/AT&T. Add cell phone usage and stuff and the cheapest I’ve seen is Sprint at around $70 a month.

Iphone for me too, even though it isn’t really a gift if your wife buys it for you and hands you all the bills! Still, just having one is great. I’ve always told her the only two material things I’m ever gonna want from here on in is an Iphone and a 73 inch TV and now I’m just down to one. Of course I’m sure some future technological advances are going to come out that I’m going to want as well, but for now I’m pretty happy.

Yeah Scattegories has been around for at least 20 years.

Ha, According to Wikipedia:

Scattergories is a creative-thinking category-based party game produced by Hasbro through the Milton Bradley Company and published in 1988. The objective of the 2-to-6-player game is to score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of categories, given an initial letter, within a time limit.

I have set a goal to try and lose 5 lbs in 2 weeks. A bit lofty but I will see how it goes. The game says a normal amount to shoot for is 3.1lbs every 2 weeks.

That, and the display Eris the Verizon booth had was all glitchy.

And I wanted a touch screen phone as well. Mix in the fact that my dad won’t let me have a Blackberry, and it pretty much adds up to a Droid.

And I’ll be in France for a week, getting back just in time to go back to school (which I don’t want to even think about lol).

Haha, i bet you had a blast working with that LG phone… and i totally agree, like i got a blackberry, which has changed EVERYTHING, in texting, and emailing, because i think it’s a great idea if you’re in college. I’m surprised your Dad didn’t let you get a Blackberry because they’re actually pretty nice to have when you’re in college… But hey, you’re happy with your phone, HOPEFULLY.

So basically i guess you have the same amount of time off as i do, i go back January 10th… but that sounds pretty damn fun, so you’ll be there for New Years? or leaving just after new years?

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 10:50 PM PST up reply actions

My dad just doesn’t want to pay for the data plan, which is weird, since I’m sure the Droid’s data plan is probably just as expensive. But whatevs.

And I’m leaving New Year’s Day in the afternoon, which is nice because I don’t want to miss the Winter Classic (even though both the Flyers and Bruins are kind of sucking it up this year, lol). And I’m flying back the 10th, so yeah, pretty much the same.

Nice… yea, so the data plan is just crazy i guess… i wouldn’t know because my friend has the iphone and just shoves it in my face, he is VERY VERY VERY rich so of course he wouldn’t talk about the price… But yea, what about sharks tomorrow? Warriors tomorrow? Thinkin about going to the warriors game, i haven’t made it to a sharks game in about 3 years, since i’m at school until may… but it pisses me off at how expensive it is…

Have fun over in France though, should be hella tight

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 10:57 PM PST up reply actions

I’m going to the Emerald Bowl tomorrow, so I’ll be following the Sharks game on my phone. Or try to, at least. I don’t follow basketball at all (I can name maybe six teams), so a no for the Warriors.

I’d personally try to go to the Sharks game, since it’s against the Ducks, and those are always fun. Especially because the Ducks are sucking it up right now. But, like I said, I don’t follow basketball, so I’m a little biased lol.

And thanks. Finally, all those years of French will pay off! haha.

Oh yea?? I HOPE USC GETS THEIR BUTTS KICKED, University of Spoiled Children, or University of Second Choice…. haha, could care less about the game, i’ll watch it, but i guess you got student tix.. BUT THE WARRIORS ARE DA SHIT!!!

But yea, i totally see you being biased, and personally? i like hockey more than basketball since it’s more exciting, but the price of a hockey game there is outrageous, plus it’s also probably going to be tough to get tickets… Rather a warriors game would be closer, me being in Moraga, and probably nobody’s going to be there… But yea, i want to go to more Sharks games, but i’ll be in Ohio seeing the sharks prospect, Wingels at Miami for games….

Haha, yea, do you have to take French at school?

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 11:07 PM PST up reply actions

Psh, Boston College has no idea what they’re up against.

Ah, yeah. I’m in south San Jose, so Sharks games are pretty close, haha. And yeah, tickets are soo expensive. I just checked out StubHub, and tickets are like, $70 each for nosebleeds, and with all the extra charges it’ll probably be around $80 each. I was lucky enough to go a game this year with third row seats (too bad they lost 7-2, ugh). And now I’m looking at Warriors tickets… $15 each. Yeah, for a cash-strapped college student that likes basketball I’d choose the Warriors.

Yeah, I took French in elementary school, high school, and now college. I’m only taking it now just in case I need it for any major I might declare in the future.

Hey, it was good to see both teams help out at Glide Memorial for the needy.

Like, even watching the Sharks games on TV is great for me because Randy Hahn just goes CRAZY on TV, and Drew provides great in-depth analysis. But the crowd there is crazy, also, i remember going to a game there and i got BITCHED OUT for trying to find my seat. But yea, i think going to a Sharks game for someone from the East Bay is like a “hey let’s plan this out” sorta thing.
Also, MIAMI REDHAWK GAMES ARE FREE, BOOYAH!!!!! So i get to yell at Wingels and tell him how he’ll suck for the sharks.

Woa, elementary school???? think that’s a little early? And yea, i’d assume that’d be an AWESOME major to declare, if you wanted a double major, and if you think you can handle it, or a minor

by PiKAgiant on Dec 25, 2009 11:21 PM PST up reply actions

I absolutely love Randy and Drew – one of the best announcing teams in the NHL, maybe even all professional sports. They walk the fine line of being complete homers but not afraid to criticize the team if they do something wrong. Plus, their flirting and references to their own drinking game is always hilarious.

And the crowd is intense – I think we were voted the third most disruptive fans in the NHL, only after Philly (who threw a smoke bomb on the ice during a game) and Montreal (who rioted after winning a first round series).

Yeah, elementary school was a little young, but I went to a private school and they required that kids take French. All I learned was the alphabet, how to count to 29, and random phrases and fruits, so it wasn’t very intense or anything. But no way do I want to major in French – I’m absolutely horrible with languages. Google translator is the only reason I’ve been getting A’s in it the past few years. I’m just talking about if a major had a language requirement, then I’m all set to go.

Agreed on that! They are not homers but make the game fun to listen to, i personally love all bay area sports broadcasters, Fitz and Barnett are awesome for the warriors, Barnett knows exactly what he’s talking about all the time.

WHAT??? THEY THREW A SMOKE BOMB!?!? haha, that is crazy, but yea, i can see how Sharks fans are the most intense. I look at it like this, look what the Warriors did a few years ago, and us fans went CRAZY at the games, and came up with the largest attendance for a game for basketball in California… Bay Area fans are nuts, but yea, nowadays just isn’t great.

Ohhhhh, ok, so you pretty much did NOTHING big with learning French back in the day. But yea, that’s what i’ve been doing with spanish… i’m surprised your school hasn’t enforced making you take a French class in college or at least have to over your 4 years, we had to take 3

Iphone, because it’s more user friendly, and the apps are just crazy, also it would be a ton of fun to have when in class or when there’s nothing going on, on like a train. Same with watching movies… the only downside to the iphone is that you dont get email from work, or school

And ignoring financial stuff? Well, I’m reserving final judgment until after I’ve had the phone for a while, but I’d have to say Droid. The lack of a physical keyboard really does bother me, and the Apple interface is pretty restrictive. While it does have a lot more apps right now, the Droid app market will only grow with time.

When I saw him holding the handset up near his Bluetooth – filled ear I simultaneously laughed out loud/gave up hope.

Rewind...

If you are used to having a dvr…. trying to watch tv without one is an interesting experience! My sister missed something on the Colbert Holiday Special yesterday, and I had to quickly change gears and say “Well just re-….errrr watch it on Hulu later!”

I sometimes reach for the remote to rewind radio broadcasts too, but then again, I’ve been known to try and use my car’s key remote to open the front door of the apartment.

by Merope on Dec 26, 2009 11:13 AM PST up reply actions

by Merope on Dec 26, 2009 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

Good, i like ya then… because there are some fans that have told me to sit down, and obviously, since i’m 6’3, i didn’t ask to be this tall… So i just tell them, to stand up and watch it, like on a big play for a giants game, like a double, or triple, i’d stand up, a possible homer, i’ll stand up, SOME PEOPLE DONT thinking they’re either too cool or just too old or too lazy

7.1 channel surround sound starts with something like this, then you add the speakers and powered sub-woofer that fits your ears. Think movie theater sound in your living room.

Haha, yea, i don’t go to theater much anymore either, but that is pretty tight to have a huge system at your crib. That’s very cool, we got the 42 inch, and a Yamaha surround system… so it is OK at best, but hey, i really don’t like spending 10 bucks to see a movie

by PiKAgiant on Dec 26, 2009 1:22 PM PST up reply actions

Besides being cheaper, it’s nice to be able to be in control. You can pause, rewind, etc. Also, when I went to see the last harry potter (imax), the sound was ridiculously loud, and I sat through all the previews and the beginning of the movie covering my ears (it was still really loud even then). So that sucked.

The actor, among the highest paid in prime-time TV, earning about half-a-million bucks for each episode of his sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” has a checkered past, including stints in rehab and allegations of spending tens of thousands of dollars on call girls.

Sheen and his second wife, actress Denise Richards, split in 2006, and an ugly, accusation-laden custody battle went on for years afterward. At one time he was engaged to actress Kelly Preston, whom he accidentally shot in the arm.

He has also said that the 9-11 terrorist attack was an inside job, and wants President Obama to further investigate.

Baseball has had weirder injuries.

I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

I’m a little sad that there is football being played on a supposed baseball only ball park.

"meh"

by SFGuy on Dec 26, 2009 7:12 PM PST reply actions

I think the park looks great for football… i went there to see UCLA vs. Florida State a few years ago, and loved it

by PiKAgiant on Dec 26, 2009 7:18 PM PST up reply actions

I thought a few folks from here were going to that tonight. Oh and while I’m at it… BEAT LA!!! [Go Sharks!]

by Merope on Dec 26, 2009 7:37 PM PST up reply actions

there’s that one person here, that sharks fan that’s going, mymclife

by PiKAgiant on Dec 26, 2009 8:05 PM PST up reply actions

Yup. I went, and was lucky enough to get seats out of the pouring rain (my mom thanked me once every five minutes for that). It was a pretty fun game – AT&T Park is a pretty nice place to watch some football. We were also sitting near the TMB, which was awesome. It was also pretty much a USC home game, what with the vast majority of people there supporting USC. It was kinda funny when a camera was panning the crowd, and one guy ripped his jacket open to reveal a UCLA shirt, and the entire park just started booing him.

Then add burgers at Oasis in Palo Alto after that, along with the Sharks beating the Ducks, and it was a pretty awesome night.

YEA??? USC PAID THE REFS, IT WAS A CONSPIRACY!!!! But what would you expect what with USC being IN CALIFORNIA. Ehh screw USC and UCLA, they can both suck it…

That would spell a pretty awesome night though with the Bay ARea teams winning

by PiKAgiant on Dec 27, 2009 7:52 PM PST up reply actions

It was fun to see the refs give the game to USC.

Of course, David Shitskie didn’t help either.
