Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

Justin Duchscherer has agreed in principle on one-year deal with A's. Could be worth $5.5 million if he reaches his incentives. Justin would have made for a Dukelicious 5th starter, but eh.

Bah

WHY IS BOCOCK?!

So, for reference, if we sign DeRosa, it will cost us probably $12 mil total.

For that we probably could have gotten Nick Johnson AND Duke.

Well, it appears we probably couldn’t have gotten Johnson since he chose less money to go to the Yankees.

That’s just not accurate.

Derosa for two years, 6mil per year. Dush and Johnson both signed for 5ish mil each. That’s 10 mil in one year, versus 12mil in two. Not even close.

It’s a moot point though, see jponry’s statement.

I concede Jponry’s point, but I see nothing wrong with the statement “$12 mil total”.

There’s nothing factually wrong with what you said, but you can’t compare a two year total with a one year total. That’s not how budgets work.

by fantastical on Dec 24, 2009 4:45 PM PST up reply actions

not only that, duschbag signed with his original team. It would have cost the Giants more money than it cost the A’s to sign him. Isn’t it funny that we want the Giants to sign every freaking free agent that’s out there except our own?

No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

and if Duchscherer did sign, we’d all yell about it for some reason, talk about how the $5mil could’ve gone to a hitter, etc.

I would have liked to sign Douche, but with the combo of arm problems and clinical depression you can’t really blame the Giants for not being interested.

not really. I would have been ecstatic. The guy can straight up pitch.

This

He was #2 on my wish list, right behind NJ.

You are aware FA get to decide where they play? We offered more to Johnson than the Yankees, he still opted to play for NY.

Also, the total for 1 year compared to that for 2 years is a difference. If your landlord told you that you had to pay double your rent this year but could live there for free next year, is that really the same? Baseball teams are businesses and cash flow does matter. Not to mention that if we did pay both Duke and NJ this year, we couldn’t sign another bat for this year.

Not sure what to do about my screen name at this point...

by AngelWillSaveUs on Dec 24, 2009 1:21 PM PST up reply actions

I hear ya. I chose my words poorly. I am mostly just frustrated that we could have afforded Duke and NJ for what they ended up getting paid HAD they chosen to sign with us.

Gotcha. Yeah, NJ was one guy I really wanted too. Why does everyone hate us?!?!?!

Bork and Sabes are still here ? Frandsen and Lewis bad mouthed the Giants ? They don’t like garlic fries ? There could be a number of reasons.

I’d rather have Smoltz/Johnson/Martinez than a guy who didn’t pitch last year, and whose 22 starts of goodness came with a K/9 of 6.00.

And Sheets isn’t getting what he thinks he’s getting, so I’d include him in that list too.

Yes!

I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

Sheets or Bedard Please

If we are going to spend more than a 2 mil base.

I like Duke and would have loved to give him a chance here but he got a fair deal with his former team and there are plenty of reclamation prjects out there with plenty of upside.

Question is...

If we do end up signing both DeRosa and Uribe, will we have enough left over to make Quizibuck a word?

by Monkeyking42 on Dec 25, 2009 12:11 PM PST reply actions

If we just sign both of them, we’ll be in one.
