Uribe returning?
According to Ken Rosenthal's twitter page Juan Uribe is close to signing a deal to return to the Giants. How long the deal is and what it's worth.
I like Uribe as long as he is a role player and not a starter.
In other news, I am on the twitter feed for the SF Giants and one name keeps jumping out at me, Miguel Tejada. Is that really what the Giants need though? He is getting old and doesn't have great range. If he signs with the Giants could they move him to 3B.
Another thing is Fred Lewis. At the beginning of the season he was doing good things in the 3 and 5 spot and then Bochy moved him to 1st and he struggled. I think if Bochy would have moved him back down to the 5th spot he could have produced more. Maybe I am biased because I think Lewis is a good, humble guy but still he should have got more of a chance.
Thoughts?

Rosenthal mentions it’s a one-year deal with a team option for a second, and that the Giants are still looking at him as a utility guy (although who knows what’ll happen if they don’t sign anyone else). No word on the dollars yet.
I’m glad Uribe’s coming back. I’m assuming Sabes will sign him for less than he would have had he signed a few weeks ago.
See, Brian, good things happen when you sit tight and don’t outbid yourself.
"Those that drink the Kool-Aid, please leave the room."
The sad thing is..
Knowing how Sabes works, he will end up paying Urine more now that he would have a ferw weeks back!! The Giants way!!

Same price I assume(?). Grizzly tastes like crap. I only know that because they were selling it for something like $2.50 a can for a week or two when it first hit the market. Is it still ridiculously inexpensive? Copenhagen is still fine for me.

Was Lewis really doing good things in the 3 and 5 spot at the start of the year?
Also not sure if Lewis being a good/humble guy means that much to how much playing time he’ll get. I’d be fine with Tejada depending on the contract, but I doubt it’s going to be reasonable enough, so I’ll preemptively say it’s probably a bad move.
Fred hit .299/.420/.403 in April last year (and a still decent .258/.340/.438 in May).

Holey moley
I know the whole Lewis thing has been done to death around here, but I didn’t realize those were his numbers at the start.
Frandsen and Downs revolt. Bowker and Nate say WTF ? Cut these guys loose or let them play.
Uribe and DeRosa ? Seriously, I don’t get the need to pay $10M for both. Are these guys going to be utility/bench players or starters ? So a bench of Frandsen, Bowker, Torres, Nate, Uribe and DeRosa ?
While Uribe was a great value last year, he seems due for a regression. DeRosa may have been effected by the injury last year, but really, one or the other would be likely be sufficent. Someone help me out here.
Matt Downs . The Kevin Frandsen of 2010 !
Well...
At least Uribe and DeRosa aren’t outfielders (much). Bowker will just have to murder Velez for the starting gig at LF

JuaNI !! i really liked uribe last year and im glad hee’s comming back , and if you watched derosa in the playoffs you would much rather have uribe…..derosa sucks and juans 4 years younger
ignoring the horrible grammar, and the sad dead guy sig, DeRosa had a wrist injury at the end of last season, therefore his performance in the playoffs isn’t indicative of his talent level.

signing Uribe
Just one more way Sabes is screwing and getting back at Frandsen. The kid has to be
traded to a team like the Marlin’s in a deal for Uggla. The fish want cheap so Frandsen and
two or three prospects but not in the top 5 or 6 prospects.
The Giants want Tejada
because Sabes now has a special assistant code named “The Thumb”

Is a little overpaid for someone who is sub-par. I’d wish for 2 for 10 in stead of 12. He should be a plan b. We should go after Holliday and if not Tejada

Is Bay > Holliday? I ask because apparently the Giants were going after Bay and would be willing to offer 5 yr deal yet no word about them going after Holliday. SWOOP.
Next year FA class has the potential to be a good class so if no big deal this offseason is could be ok. Giants will have to ante up for Lincecum. Lots.
I would say Holliday >Bay easily. Thats without looking at stats, just from memory, though.

Well I’d pretty much have anyone over Velez. He doesn’t have baserunning speed nor a patient bat. I’d pick Lewis over Velez, but like you said, Lewis ain’t a good soldier so he’s gonna be put on waivers or something like that

Well the other option is Diving-From-10-Feet-Away Vroom Machine. =/
I’m just really really not sold on Velez and am of the opinion that anybody, including Lewis, Bowker and DeRosa, will contribute more on offense than Vroom, enough that it cancels out whatever defensive benefits/speed Vroom has. (Sorry, I didn’t check the UZRs before i typed this…so im probably wrong)

Wrist injury can be devastating.
Remember Hackman Leonard? When his wrist was good, the guy could hit over 300 and was a tough out. When his wrist was messed-up, which was for most of his career he was more of a 240 hitter. Luckily for him he had some periods of his wrist being ok. I hope the medical technology is better today for DeRosa, because if it is not, we will see regression ala hackman Jeffrey Leonard.

Report: A’s talking with 3B Adrian Beltre
December 24, 2009
THE A’S PAGE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Comcast SportsNet MLB Insider Mychael Urban is reporting that the Oakland A’s have expressed interest in third-base free agent Adrian Beltre.
Beltre recently turned down arbitration from the Mariners in hopes of procuring a multi-year deal elsewhere.
Apparently, Billy Beane is not scared by super-agent Scott Boras, who represents Beltre, and negotiations are moving forward. Beltre is reportedly looking for $10M-$15M per season.

There is no way the A’s are going to pay that kind of money to anybody, let alone Adrian Beltre. The A’s are probably hoping that every other team fills their needs and then Beltre realizes he has almost priced himself out of a job, and is willing to sign a one year deal to re-establish his value. They’re going to use the same smart strategy Sabean used last year that enabled the Giants’ to sign both CC Sabathia and Manny Ramirez.
