Meh.
1 and an option wouldn’t be too terrible.

Backup at 3B and 2B behind F. Sanchez as well.
So that must mean Uribe will be the starting 2B on Opening Day.

no problem with this unless Sabean announces that he’s the starting third baseman. However, Sabean made it clear a few weeks ago that he was pursuing him as a backup. With the brittleness of our middle infielders he should get plenty of playing time.

+1
He will get a ton of playing time in ’10. And there should be no way he is named the starting 3B. Although, you never know with this team…

Rotoworld says this (really from Foxsports)
Uribe would receive a one-year contract with a club option for 2011. Uribe, 30, showed some life with his bat in 2009, batting .289/.329/.495 with 16 home runs and 55 RBI and was especially valuable down the stretch. According to the report, he would return to his super-utility role, so the Giants are still expected to pursue a corner infielder.

I’m cool with that.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

I’m really only cool with that if neither DeRosa or Uribe is the corner infielder. I’m cool with DeRosa in LF, Uribe on the bench and Delgado/LaRoche/Garko/Overbay at 1B but I doubt thats the plan.
Thing A
Delgado is still at least three weeks away from playing. Even the Mets have lost interest.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you
so one of the few GMs in the league worse than ours isn’t interested and he’ll likely be incredibly cheap…… were you trying to make a case AGAINST Delgado? I’m not totally sold on him either, but considering the relative cost I don’t think it should be dismissed because the guy won’t be ready til mid January.
Thing A
It was either DeRosa (LOL), Atkins (LOLWUT), or Uribe.
I’d rather have Juan, even if he’ll have a more down year. I’m sure Jonathan Sanchez must be thrilled.

That’s cold-hearted cruelty right there…

I dunno
I like to think the no-hitter mightn’t have happened without the error. Also, Juan more than vindicated himself from that point out.

I believe everything happens for a reason. I want to believe that error had every one on their toes for defense, namely that spectacular catch by Rowand.

Oh, I thought
You were referring to Freddy Sanchez being happy with his contract now that the market for middle infielders has gone down the toilet.

I feel like it was just a matter of time…
Sabes and Uribe are kind of made for each other…
-Hacks at slop….check
-Coming off a career year….check
-Versatile, plays multiple positions…..check
-Clubhouse leader who is a gamer…..check
With all that being said, I have no problem with a one year deal with some sort of team controlled option for a second year….

Meh, If one year of Uribe prevents multiple years of DeRosa, then I am ok with it.

yes...maybe...I think
I love this if he’s an all-purpose backup
it would definitely mean no LaRoche. de Rosa still a possibility for outfield
cheering for Adam Witter, who will hit bigleague dingers some day.
Still yelling "Go, Antoan"
I would really like them to go after him. It doesn’t seem like there’s as much competition for him as espn was saying there would be. For about 5-6 mil per year he’d be a decent gamble.
The very bad man traded my son...So now I'd like you all to meet my new son, Ryan "Aaron" Garko...Dammit it's just not the same!
I could potentially be sold on DeRosa in LF

Is DeRosa good enough for LF?
I’m just wondering if anyone has the numbers for that.

According to the projections, he would essentially be Bowker with better defense. DeRosa’s a career 15.8 UZR/150 outfielder in scattered playing time.
Adopted brother of Jason Jarvis. To pass the time during the offseason I decided to try my hand at blogging about photography and music.
Good move. Maybe his BABIP was just low for those three sucky years, and last year was the real Uribe.
/maybe
//probably not
This last one is just cruelty.
Utter frustration and futility.

Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
There are a lot of other heads
which would work really well with this, too.

No way we also get Uggla right? Unless we plan on one of them being in LF?

I think the Giants have moved on from Uggla
Apparently, the Marlins were asking for too much.

This does not thrill me.
Angelwillsaveus laid out a nice case for DeRosa and the price seems fair but I keep coming back to the belief this team would be a 82-83 win team in talent level. Meaning the 2010 would need to probably pick up 8 wins somewhere to be serious about a post season run. With a starting 8 that would hold 1 player under 30 (Panda) most nights with occasional singular spotting of Velez, Nate or Bowker I just don’t see where there is enough upside to expect 8 games.

It was a compare & contrast branch vs Uribe in yesterdays DeRosa fanshot. But it was strong enough to make me not scoff at the idea which has been my stance.

yeah
middle of the order bats…. derosa and uribe. at least it’s not 60 million like rowand.
There’s a 10% chance that by May, the starting lineup could be…
LF – DeRosa
3B – Sanchez
2B – Uggla
1B – Sandoval
RF – Bowker
C – Posey
CF – Rowand
SS – Uribe
This would involve the Giants whiffing on all of the catching free agents, Renteria retiring to work on his folk album, and Bowker doing something good soldiery to get back into the Giants’ good graces, but the dream is still there….
I, for one, am ready to preorder a copy of “The Freewheelin’ Edgar Renteria” right now.

Aye
The nicest thing about Uribe is that Bork has, at least, shown that he is willing to play him over Renteria.
Desirous of Matt Holliday and Dan Uggla since 2009.
Cool A line up that doesn't completely suck
I haven’t seen one of those since I saw the San Jose Giants play the Stockton Ports last year
Hoping for BowkerMania to hit AT&T Park in 2010
