Best Giants prospect not named Posey or Bumgarner?
Jim Callis (3:00 PM)
Zack Wheeler.
If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.
(Though Neal is my #3).

Wow.
I’ve never seen the kid pitch, as I assume most here, and he hasn’t even toed a professional rubber (WC!?) but the scouts seem to LOOOOOOOVE Zach Wheeler.
"…this thing which tells time."
It pisses me off that the Phillies are still in the top 5. Indians got raped in the Lee/Francisco deal. Do they have anyone they want to give up real cheap to the Giants?
I didn’t like that trade either. It was like Lee was a pending free agent. If I’m the Indians, I need one of Kyle Drabek, Domonic Brown, or Michael Taylor. Don’t ask for all of them and a unicorn like Ricciardi — just one. Maybe the guys the Indians got will pan out, but it was like they were the desperate ones.

Closer
I’ve been thinking for a while that a Brian-Wilson-to-Phillies trade makes a lot of sense. They have a good talent pool and we could probably get a good return for Wheez.
Desirous of Matt Holliday and Dan Uggla since 2009.
Lot of closers on the market this winter, though. That would dampen the return.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
I also think Rick Dubee likes Ryan Madsen a lot.

Madsen’s legit. Towards the end of the season they were using him a lot like we used Affeldt – he was actually getting the highest leveraged situations despite not being the official closer.

Jason Donald, Lou Marson, Jason Knapp and Carlso Carrasco would be the Giants 4,5,6,7 prospects

All of those players are pretty warty, though. Donald currently projects as a utility player, Marson’s nothing special, Knapp is always injured, and Carrasco is a serious headcase.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
I was joking. I wouldn’t mind Marson as a backup.

I just didn’t understand why they felt that had to deal Lee at all — and then they couldn’t even string it out to the deadline to see if they could get a bidding frenzy going in the wake of the Halladay debacle. They just leaped at the first (or maybe not the first depending on whether you believe the Dodgers) offer that came along. The Indians entire thought process was a head scratcher to me.

Dodgers fans where pissed. They felt raped after the Blake trade and wanted Cleveland to make good and let them have Lee cheap (similar package to the Phillies).
However I like Knapp as a prospect.

The sad thing is as bad as the Blake trade was from a process standpoint, it’s actually worked out real well for them. Stupid Casey Blake. It’s kinda like when Manny got suspended…having Juan Pierre was so dumb…but it worked out. Argh.

Does the declining to offer arbitration to B. Molina pave the way for Buster Posey to start next year? If so do you think the Giants bring in veteran backup?
Jim Callis (2:18 PM)
I don’t think the Giants are just going to hand the job to Posey. I think they’ll ease him in more slowly, and there are some questions about how ready his receiving skills are.

Credit where Credit is due
Sabean has drafted extremely well recently. I really liked his draft strategy this year, his drafting is the reason we’re so high on this list.
Proud father of Barry Zito. As long as he keeps throwing strikes, that is.
Agreed. Either he’s making the right decisions or he’s listening to the right people.
I’m still worried he’s going to turn the best prospects into Eduardo Perez, though.

I’m starting to worry that Bengie will be available via trade this season and Buster will go 118/118/118 the week before the deadline

The credit should go to John Barr.

Sabean’s job isn’t really to evaluate the prospects personally, but to hire the right guy to do that for him.
delegated!
Please hit better, Randy Winn.
That’s right. Put the right people in place and listen to them is really the crucial role of a GM.

I think it says “Jim Cialis”

Kinda surprised, I’m not as high on the Giants talent right now as I was a year ago. But I suppose they must have liked the draft, Neal and the collection of C+/B- prospects we’ve got.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
If you look at the farm system, we have a crap ton of relief arms, and a couple of top notch starting prospects.
I remember these quotes from the Brewers
“It’s unbelievable,” Fielder said of the San Francisco bullpen. “It’s tough. When they throw 99 [mph] on the black, it’s hard to do anything with it. They’re a winning team for a reason.”
“Everybody out there throws a gazillion mph,” said Lopez.
