Giants almost traded for Beltre in 2008
A year-and-a-half after GM Brian Sabean thought he had a deal to acquire Adrian Beltre from the Mariners, the Giants are again in a position to make Beltre their third baseman. . .In the summer of 2008, Sabean was biding time at third with Jose Castillo, a little Rich Aurilia and, eventually, some Pablo Sandoval. Down a bat (or three), he swung a trade with the Mariners, according to a baseball source, that was agreed on by Mariners baseball people but vetoed by president Chuck Armstrong.

I would not hate this free agent signing. An infield of Pablo and Beltre at the corners, Renteria and Sanchez up the middle, and Posey behind the dish would not be the worst thing out there… heck, I’d venture to guess that might even be one of the better infields in the division (though it would look a lot better if we could get someone other than Renteria to play short).

I would be okay with this
Personally, I’d like either Nick Johnson or Adrian Beltre for the infield. Johnson would help this teams offense but Beltre would give us a killer glove at 3rd and Panda could probably be + defender at 1st. I don’t think Beltre is as bad as he was last year and I think leaving Safeco would help his numbers.
It would be somewhat typical if they were to sign Beltre this year as he’s been a player i’ve wanted on the Giants for a number of years. However i don’t really want him now, we’ve got a very good 3B so don’t really need him. Moving Sandoval to 1B would negate a decent chunk of Beltre value to the team and would actually cause us to be a worse team offensively.

That's the $2.000,000 question.
At least I assume so, how much is Sabean being paid?

Didn’t realize before but Beltre was offered arbitration by the Mariners. That has no effect on us directly (as he was only a type B) but there’s got to be a decent chance that he accepts arbitration. If he were to turn it down then I’d imagine he’ll be quite expensive and so i think we’re better off looking elsewhere.

Possible, but I don’t know that it’s a given that he’ll be super-pricey… his superficial M’s numbers were uninspiring even before this season, and many of the teams that are smart enough to look past those are already set at third.
A 20-run improvement in our third-base D and closure to our 1B questions would be worth something. If we’re gonna spend a little money on a dude, we could do a lot worse than Beltre.
Worrisome for sure, but it’s also factored into his price. He’ll be a good bit cheaper this winter than he would’ve been last winter, so it’s less costly to assume the risk that his power’s gone for good.
He also lacerated his scrotum fielding a grounder. That could put you into a slump.

I saw this on Fangraphs and it made me laugh:
Beltre (testicle), who was eligible to come off the disabled list Friday, could be ready by Tuesday, the Seattle Times reports.

Beltre will be 31 this year. Even if that is his real age, he’s an old 31, having played in lots of games since he was 20/21. Granted he has been a real gonad, I mean gamer for his career, and he is durable, I just think he is going to fall off a cliff real bad.

Looks like the Phillies are going to sign Placido Polanco instead, but I still think Beltre accepts arbitration.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you
to play 3rd?

Between the gloves of Utley, Rollins, and Polanco
They should nearly make up for Howard’s defense.
