#14 Giants Prospect Runoff
Well, we made it pretty far this year without a runoff. Unfortunately, this last vote was too close for me to just wave my hand at and move on. So, for the #14 prospect, you have the following choices:
As usual, two days for the poll unless it's obvious who will win.
75 words, hmm. Seattle GM Jack Zudslkhfaskl is awesome. We could use one of those, like right now.

Sorry that it had to come to this Marcello. Everyone should have just voted for Darren Ford and we wouldn’t have had this problem.

It’s much better than it was last year. As I recall, we got into a huge clusterfuck with back to back runoffs, one that ended in a tie.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
I remember that tie.

Hmm, difficult to call this one. I like Stoffel but i’m not a relief pitcher fan when i comes to prospects. I also like Sanchez but there’s not really any evidence to suggest that he’s a good prospect as he seems to have little scouting backing and the stats are in too small a sample to be worth anything.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
Sanchez
His K and BB rates are pretty legit. I think it’s fair to say he has excellent control of the strikezone and that we don’t need to qualify it with sample size issues since he’s shown that in over 500 PA.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Well i don’t think that DSL stats are worth anything so there’s really only 100-150 PA of relevent stats. And whilst it certainly appears that he has good control of the strikezone, 150 PA at rookie ball don’t really give you an impression as to how that holds up to competitve pitching.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
It’s true that he’s very far away, and that the DSL numbers need to be taken with huge grains of salt. But the fact that he had good discipline there, and maintained it here, leads me to believe that it’s a real skill.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.

Indubitably
It seems to me when you have too equally far-off prospects coming off good seasons, if one is a relief pitcher and the other is a position player, the position player has to be considered more valuable.
I think it’s hard to say that they are “equally” far-off, as Stoffel has the potential to rise through the system rather quickly in relation to Sanchez.
That’s probably right. I was just referring to their being at about the same level in the minors. I presume both of them will start the season in Augusta?
I'm not sure Sanchez will start in Augusta
He just came from the AZL so he might play in the NWL this year.

27-27 right now...
what happens if they tie again?
Also, will the loser of the runoff automatically get spot #15?
Go Hector. Screw all those people who don’t realize that BB and K rates stabilize with much smaller sample sizes than almost any other offensive stat.
Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.
I haven’t been voting in these, consider we’re working on our Top 50 list, but for a runoff, I’ll throw in my two cents.
For me, it’s Stoffel. Sanchez has the more valuable ceiling, but he’s a long, long ways off. Stoffel is a guy who is already very close to his potential (which is still good) and likely to come up quickly. My vote is for the surer thing.

Brute said it better than I could have. I like both, and would put both above Gillaspie and Peguero, but of the two I have to go with Stoffel right now.

I don’t really see how we can call a guy with 20 professional innings (following after a fairly unimpressive college year) a “sure thing” to be a productive major league player. What really are the odds that he ever qualifies for a major league pension, say? What are the chances he has as long or productive a major league career as, for instance, Jason Grilli? I can’t imagine saying it’s higher than 25%, and 25% chance of being Jason Grilli doesn’t strike me as all that sure a thing.

I did not say 'Sure Thing'
I said ‘Surer Thing.’
Neither are a guarantee. Every question you brought up is legitimate; but they are also very applicable to Sanchez. But I like Stoffel’s chances a lot better than Sanchez’s, for one reason: Stoffel has the pitches right now to throw in the majors; all he needs to do is learn how to use them. Sanchez needs to develop more than just his gamehead; he has strength and stamina to develop before he has the physical tools to be a big leaguer.

Yeah I was using you to answer a broader sentiment. Someone the other day described Stoffel as guaranteed to be a major league contributor and there seems to be a lurking expectation that he’ll repeat Runzlers 09 feat, despite the fact that nobody had ever done that before.
Stoffel’s definitely got some tools but he’s still a guy with 20 pro innings who hasn’t made it to A ball yet.

You guys are jerks
If this ends up tied, I’m not sure what to do. Last year, when this happened, we got bailed out by a 2nd tie in the immediate next vote and someone had a great suggestion to do a poll like this:
A, B, C, D
A, B, D, C
B, A, C, D
B, A, D, C
Without that second tie, I’m not sure what to do. We could do a 2nd runoff and add Waldis as an option, since he was close in the actual poll, but I’m not sure I like that solution. Any ideas?
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
suggestion
Whoever comes in second in this runoff automatically gets #15, and we move on to #16.

So, two things
1) As long as this doesn’t end in a tie, I think we should just go with those two guys at #14 and #15. If it’s a tie, they’re both #14 and we move on. Maybe we get lucky and have a 2nd tie and can do a two pairs runoff again.
2) With the holidays coming up over the next two weeks, I would like people’s opinions on pausing this thing or not. I am around and will be able to continue the polls, but this place might be kinda empty. Let me know what you think.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Keep it going, just extend the voting period. I’d bet that most of the more dedicated members (read: the ones you want voting the most) log in at least once every three days, and having a set schedule like that means they can take five minutes to come here and vote, which isn’t asking a lot. And even if you lose half the voters, that’s still a hundred person poll or so, which is acceptable.
I agree, add a day or 2 to each voting period. If it is ridiculously dead and votes are not happening, then maybe suspend.
Wow, a tie would be all serious and adult like…hockey…woops, it wouldn’t, I mean college football? MVP ranking?
