WTF IS SABEAN DOING????
...or not doing is a better question. When you look at the Milton Bradley trade that just came down, one has to wonder why Rowand wouldn't have been a more attractive player for the Cubs now that they have stated that they will look for a CF candidate.
Will someone explain to me why Sabean still has a job?

Not wanting Bradley’s disruptive attitude on the team is good enough reason for me. Just because the Cubs are looking for a CF doesn’t mean they want Rowand at more years and more dollars than Bradley.
Honestly I would have welcomed this move, but it didn’t happen I am not going to start a crusade over it.

Yeah, it would have been a decent move but i’ve never understood the amount of talk about it and it’s hardly something to get worked up about. Especially since there’s been no evidence that the Cubs were even slightly interested in doing the deal.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
I think it would have been a good compliment move to signing Cameron.

Sorry, but Sabean missed the boat on cameron…..and Nick Johnson…….and…..
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
He offered more money for Nick Johnson. I wouldn’t sign cameron for 2 years either (or at least, not at what Boston is paying).
I don’t understand the big deal. Yes no news is frustrating, but this is what we wanted right? To not over commit and over pay?
I’ll still take Russell Branyan on a one year deal, btw. Nobody is looking that way yet, but I wouldn’t mind it.

Branyan has already turned down a 1 year from the M’s. He wants 2 years. Last i read they were still in talk to that end. Not that I’ve been intrested of tracking Branyan for the last 3 off seasons or anything.
I also think SEA is teh perfect park for him.

Meh…Bradley is better suited to the AL where he can rest and still bat.

Yeah, I guess having that good OBP guy at the expense of getting rid a gritty gamer type doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Milton Bradley has only played 100+ games a season 4 times in his career. 101,141, 126, 124.
OBP doesn’t mean shit if he is on the bench, also who would play CF next year? Rowand was exactly average last year, I know average isn’t great and you don’t want to pay 12 mil a season for average, but I would rather keep Rowand in CF than have Bradley and have Velez/McBryde in CF.

GIANTS BRAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Rowand would cost them $21M more than the route they’ve taken and i’m guessing that’s a pretty decent reason why they wouldn’t want to make the move.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
They took back a really shitty pitcher with just as bad of a contract. Are you telling me that if the Giants picked up some of the difference they wouldn’t have gone for it?
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
Rowand is owned 36 million over the next 3 season.
Bradley gets 21 over the next two.
Silva gets 24 mil over the next two.
Cubs get 9 million and save six million.
We would have to offer like 15 million (plus the cost to replace CF)

by your math
the Giants therefore have $15M to spend.

Any time I’ve ever heard Bill Neukom on the radio, he’s talked about the “Giants way” and clubhouse chemistry. No way he would have approved of a deal for a jerk like Bradley. I have no problem with this, although the Giants’ could certainly use a player of this caliber who isn’t an ass.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you
There are plenty of good reasons to hate on Sabean
This isn’t one of them. It’s a great move for Seattle, though.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
If it’s a great move for Seattle, wouldn’t it have been one for the Giants also?
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
No, because we don’t have a DH in the National league.
Obviously any links in the above post are probably NSFW
Bradley played the OF all last year and was OK. DH doesn’t explain that when he offers what the Giants need….OBP.

The alternative explanation is reading comprehension ……

Another alternative is that maybe you have misjudged the realtive value of getting rid of Rowand for the nex t3 years.
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
You do realize that Aaron Rowand has a no trade clause, right?
Do you have any proof that The Chicago Cubs is on the list of 10 teams Aaron Rowands submitted being a team that he is willing to be traded to?
Obviously any links in the above post are probably NSFW
No, do you?
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
I’m not the one jumping down Sabean’s throat for not trading Aaron Rowand for Milton Bradley. Do you have proof that Rowand will even accept a trade?
If not, your argument is looking pretty stupid right now.
Obviously any links in the above post are probably NSFW
It’s really not necessary when Sabean publicly dismises the posssibility of any such move.
The point is the mere fact that he would not even consider such a move makes Sabean look like an idiot…….not just for signing Rowand to a horrible contract in the first place, but for failure to consider cutting his losses and admitting his mistake at the expense of the team.
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
If the Cubs was not on the 10 team list, wouldn’t Sabean just anger the player by saying there is a possibility?
Why would he do something like that? For his own public image? Why does he give a shit about his own public image?
You are dealing with a whole bunch of unknowns, have obviously formed your own opinion about the unknowns, and are looking for any reason to blame Sabean.
Like Marcello said, plenty of reasons to blame Sabean, this is the wrong one. This one is a whole lot of whambulance to me.

It’s actually pretty clear that you have misjudged Rowand’s value.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
He has value?
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???
YES
I can tell you hate him, but he’s actually not a bad player. He’s average, maybe slightly below average. He is overpaid, but he does actually contribute positively to the team.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
And the price of getting rid of him also includes finding a replacement. Who would that be?

I like what Sabean has done thusfar
Resisted bad contracts correctly and waited out the market.
I can’t blame him for Nick Johnson… Johnson is going to DH, which means half as much work, and he obviously came up with the Yankees, so maybe he just wanted to play for a contender. A few years on the Nats will do that to you.
Desirous of Matt Holliday and Dan Uggla since 2009.
He’s losing the players we’re all very high on to the Red Sox and Yankees. I can’t really blame him for that as I assume the only way they would choose SF over those teams is with an overbid (2yrs/15.5 for Cameron is already too rich for me).
I’m just extremely nervous so long as Dye/Pods/Crede remain unsigned.
