SJ Giants Oppose A's Move To San Jose

I think it is pretty clear that this is being backed (and financed) by Neukom and Co. I seriously doubt they will get the city to back down, but I believe this effort is more of a stall tactic than anything.

Asked who is paying for the law firm and the San Francisco public relations agency that's assisting the fledgling group, Weyermann would only say the San Jose Giants were not footing the bill.

The A's move to San Jose?

Ridiculous! You can’t have two minor league teams in the same city.

Officially disinterested in any high school outfielders from the state of Mississippi.

Hell, they can share the stadium: cut down on costs, they each attract about the same number of fans…

You're right

Wait which Bay Area team has a World Series ring? Pretty sad that a “minor league team” can win more than the team that plays in Change-a-Name Park.

“Lawyers for the group members also plan to file a letter with the city today challenging a revised environmental impact report for the stadium.”

But yeah, major stall tactic.

Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.

by cain1rstballothof on Dec 16, 2009 8:45 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

It's not a stall tactic

it’s a bargaining chip. As talk moves to action, they’re getting their invoices in so they can tally up damages for a settlement agreement. Since the A’s don’t have any money, it will be interesting to see how they “convince” the Giants to back down.

Also, nice to see the article mentions polls of “who would support the A’s moving to San Jose”, not “who would pay $20M per year for a stadium to entice the A’s to come here”. And it would cost a lot more that that, since the housing/shopping mall/tax increment finance model is still dead in the water and probably will be for another two years at least in the Bay Area.

if this leads to the Berkeley Giants (A), or the Emeryville Giants (A), I am all over that. Taking BART to a Giants A team game would be teh awesome.

A’s: Okay, fine. Here’s $100M. Now let us move to San Jose.

Giants: Done. I don’t see what was so hard about that.

Cubs: Say, you know what you could do with that $100M? You could take this guy off our hands!

Soriano (reading from index card): It..would..be..an..honor..to..play..for…the…..Giants?

Giants: Done!
