Giants player information system
Just wanted to share this little nugget I found in an article about the Pirates.
"There are other major-league teams with similar systems, including San Francisco and Cleveland, where Pirates general manager Neal Huntington migrated from in the fall of 2007."
Now, I like Sabean-bashing as much as anyone, but I also do have a fair side to me. Maybe there is some progressive stuff going on in the Giants front office. In a vacuum, this sounds to me like a very good thing and positive step for the Giants. Of course, this isn't in a vacuum, it's still within the context of a Sabean run front office...so feel free to make your own interpretation...

meh
I guess it’s good to be organized, but some of that stuff isn’t hard to find anyway. And if the scouting reports are bad, it doesn’t help all that much.

-made cool catch that one time
-hit a bunch of homers in philadelphia
-defense: aggressive and confident in his ability to throw out runners before or after they reach their desired base

I think one of the main points is it can incorporate a lot more than just the scouting reports. At least with the Pirates system, it sounds like they’re going to try to keep up to date injury info and what not (at least as best they can) for every player throughout baseball, so they can pull up the information on the spot in their decisionmaking process…
It seems to me they’re really trying to streamline the whole player evaluation/information process to include a lot more information that’s constantly up to date and can be pulled up on the spot at any time.

Even if you equip a poker player with a complete set of hole-card odds, he can still be a bad player if he chases hunches and has no idea how to read his opponents.
Dan Fox is a bright guy, and I’m kind of pulling for the Pirates. It’s also sad to see that Pat Misch is out of baseball, but good for him for hooking up with the Tribune-Review.
I do mitsch Pat. He was fun while it lasted. At least he won’t be mitschtreated like he was with the Giants.
I pulling for the Pirates too. Not the Somali ones, but those boat-stealers (or is it steelers?) from Pitt.
