anyone else
feeling a bit nauseous about the pending announcement of what the Giants did with regard to Bengie? So many players are not being offered arb, and I’d have to wretch if that was also the case with Bengie. Need them draft picks!

LOL - Agent Ned + Dodgers = Dumb
Randy Wolf (33) – Type A, not offered arb
I can’t believe that the Fodgers didn’t offer Wolf arb. What are they thinking? They need big help at starting pitching, and Wolf was their best starter at the end of the year. Above and beyond that, even if they have no intention to sign him, by not offering arb they’re losing out on a first and second round compensation draft picks, or at least a guaranteed 1 Sup and 2nd rounder.
I mean Wolf is the #2 SP on most team’s list behind Lackey, and there is absolutely no chance he doesn’t get signed by some team quickly. What a maroon – it seems as if Agent Ned is adopting Sabes’ brain dead attitude toward draft picks from the early part of this decade.

And if he accepts arb you have a 8-9 million dollar pitcher that you can trade!

Exactly! Arbing Wolf was a no-brainer. There is absolutely no way he accepts the offer. He’ll be high on the Yankees list, along with most other big spending teams like the Mets, Orioles, Angels, and BoSox. Worst case, he accepts and you trade him for minor league prospects before even paying him one penny.

I was waiting to see what Sabes does with Molina before mocking the Dodgers

Molina =/= to Wolf
Molina can go either way and you can justify it.

So, what you’re saying is that Molina is bisexual, and not into Randy Wolf.

I agree that Wolf is an easier case to figure, but I don’t see how you justify declining to offer Molina arb.

while that is a fearsome list you’ve come up with, do we really think Molina would ever come back for a year? He’s never going to have a better selling point than 2009, right?

If his agent is smart, he might realize that 6 mil is the better than any other offer he will receive.
Also if he accepts you are stuck with the 2nd worst hitting catcher (2009 Jason Kendell is the worst, according to fangraphs)

do you think Sabean even knows it's arb deadline day?
Now that the Angels have announced, I’m pretty sure we know about all A-types EXCEPT Big Money.

LOL Sabes
What an idiot. In 2007 he calls up Timmeh so early in the year to pitch for a team that has no chance at making the playoffs, and ends up allowing him to get so much ML playing time that he now qualifies as a Super 2 and will cost us about $10-13M more than we should have had to pay for him next year. Then he jumps into the FA market last offseason and signs Rent to an obscene contract without waiting to see what the market would be like. Then, in July he jumps in well before the trade deadline to trade T2 for FSanch instead of sweating the Pirates a better deal, or to pay some of the salary.
But now, when it makes no difference, he waits to the last possible moment to announce the arb decisions. Why is this man still in charge?

Riskiest arb decision?
I’ve got to question the Mariner’s decision to offer Adrian Beltre arb. I don’t know the exact numbers, but I believe that the lowest he would make for next year if he accepted arb would be about $10M (80% of his 2009 salary – which I believe was around $13M). The M’s can’t afford that, and since he’s unlikely to get even 60% of that on the open market he just might accept arb. He could sign for 1 year, come back from his injury and re-establish himself, then go FA after 2010 season and get a nice multi-year deal.
I guess the M’s are banking on the fact that his agent is Boras. They’re hoping he pulls his normal act (see Veritek last year) and declines arb because of his ego.

So...
No news on whether we’re offering arbitration? The deadline’s tonight at midnight eastern, right?
