Is it just me, or is it becoming more and more evident that Bobby Cox is one of the great managers of all time? That team is consistently in contention, even with huge turnover of players, and he’s shown that he can do well with veteran teams and with young-ish teams.
STEVE HOLM! refuses to be the odd man out.
I’m not a fan of his in-game managing, but the Braves have been consistently amazing, and he deserves some of the credit, I’d think.

Late 80’s. The former Royals GM from the George Brett days was the Braves GM during the 90’s.

And he still is the undefeated champ in wife-beating.
My season is “best” when the Giants win the WS- “good” is when they finish above the Braves. This was a good year.
Don't worry, nothing will be allright.
And he still is the undefeated champ in wife-beating.
32-1 record with 15 KOs!
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

Phenomenal spousal abuse knowledge.
Runner up goes to Tony LaRussa and his consensus national championship in managerial DUIs.
Could he be our era's Connie Mack?
Like Grant I am not always a fan of his choices by darn if there is not a coherent rational to the risks he chooses to run.
Who’s brain did you bring me?

That’s got to be it. No one in their right mind would put any of those guys anywhere near this list.

I could understand a vote for Russell. Bochy, not so much – even from an outsider’s perspective, what did he do that was helpful?
"The part of the roster where most of the money is spent, though, is on free agents and guys acquired through trade — guys Sabean did play a big role in acquiring. And they are not good. When you get 2/5 of a pitching rotation for free, you would think you could do better with $76 million than to field the league’s worst offense."

His team outperformed expectations

I despise Bochy, BUT
If the Giants made the playoffs I think there would be a strong case for him being the manager of the year.
Yes, he poorly managed often, but no one at the beginning of the year expected them to win this many games, let alone make the playoffs.
Of course, they didn’t make the playoffs, so this selection is stupid.
Let's bring the...
If the Giants made the playoffs it would have been in spite of Bochy.

Manager of the year is a joke of an award
It is all based on how your team did that year and very little with the manager’s decisions.
Manager of the year is stupid. And I know this is NL, but if I was voting, the only manager I’d ever vote for is Soscia. The Angels seem to outperform their pythag every single year, and that’s basically the only thing I’ve ever seen that could convince me a manager is actually making a tangible difference on W-L…
I wonder who the sad sack was that voted for Bochy. Maybe it was the Washington Nationals’ blog person.
Still backing Notgardo, wheresoever he may wander. (Don't forget to wriiiite!)
Only as long as Grant can meet the minimum required one word after the jump to post a front page story.
AND NO FILLER GRANT! I’M TIRED OF SEEING THIS CRAP:

The manager of the year award should be more accurately renamed as “Manager of a team that was supposed to stink but turned out to be pretty good.”
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you
Pretty much. I should have given more consideration to Cox, but Tracy did do a good job of working around that pesky “more talented outfielders on the bench than the Giants have in their organization” problem.

JIM TRACY IS DUMBER THAN A BAG OF DOG SHIT, PURPLE ROW
Brian Sabean strongly encourages you to disregard the drudgery of your employment responsibilities and join him in the consumption of spirituous libations.
After having Clint Hurdle, Tracy probably seems like Earl Weaver.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

I vaguely remember some dumb game this past summer vs. the Rockies with Tracy and Bork entangled in a pinch-hitter-on-deck decoy duel that, I think, Bochy ended up putting over on the eventual “Manager of the Year”. Whatever it was, it was so dumb, like decoying with Fraddy Sanchez, who limped out tot he on-deck circle and used his bat to prop himself up – whatever it was it was that obvious. We were sure have remarked at the time in the GDT about how dumb Tracy must be to get tricked by god damned Bruce Bochy.

I think I remember that
It was fun.

I’m not pro Bochy by any means (that double switch in the first Dodger’s series when he brought in Velez in LF for Lews with the winning run on 3B pissed me off to no end) but are we really to the point where if you vote for anyone other than the McCovey Groupthink you should ban yourself?

in this particular case, the “Groupthink” is pretty much anyone but Bochy. I mean there’s no real consensus MCC MOY, I’ve seen like 5 other names in this thread alone

I don’t think he will be listed next year in the manager of the year but Tim Kurkjian is reporting that the Nationals will Jim Riggleman will be named manager of the Nationals taking off the interim tag from 2009.
