Randy Winn entering Free Agency
"Giants Manager Bruce Bochy loved Winn, and that might explain why the front office won’t look to bring him back in a reserve outfielder role. Even if they were to re-sign Winn to get 200 at-bats as a reserve, Bochy might be tempted to play him more often."

Farewell, my son. Try to class up some joint that especially needs it.
Please hit better, Randy Winn.

Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

This should be a reason not to bring back Molina for any reason. If he comes back, it’s another year of “batting 4th and catching, #1 Bengie Molina”.
"All I know is right now, you comeback and do you dwell on that? I think you're man enough to take it, you're man enough to chew on it, to spit it out and you learn from it. ... I think winners let it go. I think losers dwell on it and talk about it all week and that screws you up for the next opportunity going forward." - Mike Singletary after the 49ers loss to the Vikings
On the bright side
He’ll probably retain his A ranking as long as he’s batting fourth six days a week, no matter how poorly he hits.

This clears everything up between the Giants and Winn. Could this be a prelude to an agreement by Winn to decline an arbitration offer by the Giants, for the sole reason that the Giants get the Class B compensation? Given Winn’s ‘good-guy’ reputation, this is conceivable- certainly within the realm of possibility where it wouldn’t be with Molina.
Is there a precedent for this?
You wish you were named Frederick Deshaun...
doubtful
that would only make it more difficult to sign on somewhere else. My understanding is that the players dislike the A/B rankings/draft pick compensation and want it eliminated, so Winn probably wouldn’t go along with such a scheme.

Let’s just mention again how insane it is to re-sign a manager and then ask the front office to work around said manager’s complete inability to evaluate talent or properly construct a lineup.
