I’m astonished that there are three free agent first basemen who were less valuable than Rich Aurilia last year.
So…should we expect a Chad Tracy sigining?
Meet my new son: Sundrendy Windster, on the Curacao-SF express (via Arizona).
I can only imagine it has to do with playing time because I find that impossible to believe.

This
Most of his value is coming from his defense (they have him at a 25.8 URZ/150)…. and that simply cannot be correct. Not saying that Rich is terrible defensively at first, but that’s just a silly number.

LaRoche.
Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.

Hinske?
"Matt Cain will save the children, but not the Dodger children" - I realize this is someone else's signature but I wanted to emphasize it because it is so damn genius on several levels at once.

For comparison
2009 Season
Player, WAR, wOBA, UZR/150
Ishikawa .8, .314, 19.1
Garko .8 .338, -12.8
There is probably some UZR shenanigans from the relatively limited sample of a single season’s play, but also reflects the players reputations in the field. In terms of WAR they both come in around Delgado. Ishi steps into wOBA just ahead of Blalock and Clark.
I’d rather a FA signing at first base than 3rd. I think there are some guys on this list that could move Ishi and Garko to bench roles. I’d like Delgado or Johnson on the cheap.

FIRE BOCHY FIRE MOLINA
Garko's 1B UZR/150 In 2009 Was Not Negative. In Fact It Was +6.2.
However, for his career it is -4.6.

I’d rather sign Bay than waste money on Delgado or Johnson who might fall apart when we’ve got a healthy, cheap Garko locked up.

I don't see it as an either/or proposition.
There’s a pretty good chance that either Delgado or Johnson (or both) are available on the cheap in January.
Of course, I’d rather have Holliday than Bay + Johnson/Delgado/Garko
VAE PVTO DEVS FIO
What Is With Your Bay Love?
He is going to cost more then $15M/yr for more then 4 years. For this to make sense for the Giants we need to be able to expect that he will be able to provide average annual production of 4 WAR which he has only topped twice in his career (2005 and 2006) while his career average (and last year’s production) of 3.5 WAR falls short.

In theory, I would take Johnson or Branyan. However, money and years might leave something to be desired.
Does anyone think either will go for a short(ish), incentive laden deal?
Wisconsin: Famous for dairy, Ryan Rohlinger and not much else.
I can’t see Johnson geting longer than 2 years and much over $12MM total. Maybe considerably less could be wrong but I think he is now an older entry into in the Rocco Baldelli category.
Russell Branyan someone might get stupid on . If there is one skill the market constantly over pays for it is power and he did have some nicer numbers that way.
Of course these opinions & $5 will let you buy a cup of coffee

A team F. Sanchez and NJ being counted heavily upon is a disaster. If the Giants had got Uggla, or a durable 2B I’d be more inclined to be hyped on NJ, but I think it’d be foolish to have two injury cases in the same IF.
