2010 San Francisco Giants lineup
i'm just a little concerned about what the Giants may look like next year I have a strong beleif they can win the west however they need to make some changes, this is what i would love to see next year, may soiund crazy and impossible but you never know,
1B-Garko, 2B Uggla (send Cain or Zito to FLA for uggla theyre looking for starters anyway)SS-Renteria, 3B-Freddy Sanchez (move from 2 to 3 put pablo behind the plate) C-Sandoval bring up buster for the backup let Molina walk or possibly sign Torrealba, RF-Schierholtz CF-Rowand LF-Jason Bay use Fred Lewis as possible trade bait to bring in a releif pitcher.

I’m not sure if you’re being serious or sarchastic. Please clarify.
"We're in this thing!" My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman, "Sweet Jesus" Guzman and Jesus H. Guzman.
I think he’s serious. I’m sure the team that wants to trade Uggla because he makes too much money would love to exchange him for Zito.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

Ummmm
No team would trade anyone for zito espescially Uggla
and are you a Giants fan why would you trade Cain for Uggla
Please tell us how you think we can sign Jason Bay
and don’t put Pablo behind the plate it will ruin his knees and tire him out, plus he is an excellent third basemen

Logic!
No, really, I agree with all of these.

you’re a little concerned what the team will look like next year and you want to trade Cain for Uggla? Worst. Idea. Ever.
Thing A
It seems the Giants are out of the running for Bay and Holliday
so we are probably looking at 2nd tier free agents/trade prospects as Sabes says:
I say the Giants try for Nick Johnson, who if healthy, would give them a much needed boost in OBP.
I think the Giants could also pry Jonny Gomes, who is arbitration eligible, from the Reds for a mid-level prospect. He would add a powerful right-handed bat to the lineup, is a local kid, has a rep as a good team guy, and is not a disaster with the glove.
Sign Xavier Nady, has some right-handed pop, and is another local kid so we may get some hometown discount.
Sign a decent veteran backstop (numerous choices) to back up Posey, who should start.
1B Johnson (Garko platoon/backup)
2B Sanchez
SS Renteria (we’re stuck with him)
3B Panda
LF Gomes (Bowker backup)
CF Rowand (Stuck with him too)
RF Schierholtz (Nady platoon/backup)
C Posey
These moves really shouldn’t break the bank.
Hopefully the addition of Johnson, Gomes and Nady will add some punch to go with a healthy keystone combo and the further improvement of Panda, Schierholtz and Posey. Not an awe inspiring lineup, but better than what we’ve got. Hopefully, with our pitching, it might just be enough.
Xavier Nady is a 31 year old corner outfielder who’s had one good season as a hitter, is coming off a year-long injury, an cannot play defense. Aside from his good year in 2008 and his injury year in 2009, here’s his yearly WAR:
2003: 1.2
2004: 0.0
2005: 0.8
2006: 0.4
2007: 0.8
Including 2008 and 2009, he’s averaged 1.03 WAR per season. Giants outfielders who did better than that in 2009:
Aaron Rowand: 1.9
Andres Torres: 1.9
Randy Winn: 1.7
Fred Lewis was 0.9 WAR in under 300 PAs.
Xavier Nady is not good. We do not want him.

If it makes you feel better, I had some dumb opinions about baseball when I was an eighth grader, too. And there was no World Series that year!
And then the next year our starting rotation was Terry Mulholland, Mark Portugal, William VanLandingham, Trevor Wilson, and Mark Leiter. And I thought Glenallen Hill was good.

Improving on 14-year-old poster possibilities
When jcb9 was in eighth grade, there weren’t easily available stats to study, or sites such as this, to teach one how to make more serious assessments of players. What ought to nag at “Mike Fox” isn’t his dumb opinions. It’s his settling for them instead of learning how to vet them and come up with better, statistically supported ones. For posters on this site the age of the cracker barrel is, or should be, over.
The bad part is that he keeps forcing his bad ideas upon us.
