A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.

Ford works in the offseason

I had no idea that they had side jobs…dont they play baseball for like 10 months out of the year?

by cazzuno on Nov 25, 2009 2:14 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Probably depends on their individual situations. My friend Logan Schafer was drafted by the Brewers in the 3rd round last year, and led the FSL in hitting. He’s only focused on baseball pretty much. That is his only job. Ford was a draft and follow I think out of JC and therefore made peanuts upon signing. Most minor leaguers don’t make very much money and it would make sense that they need to make something extra on the side. Especially with so many of them starting families and such.

and

if you make the assumption that the kids that skip college/leave college to go pro usually do so because they need the money from the regular season paycheck.

A lot of them work in the offseason. I know of some prospects in the Giants system who have worked in carpentry, retail, and now this deal for Ford.

Either

the shotgun-wielder was really, really lucky, or someone has been casing the dealership to see how they move their money.

I wouldn’t think a car dealership has a whole bunch of cash to move daily, but maybe the service window does.
