Getting to 725 runs
Smart blogger theorizes that the Giants will need 725 runs to make the playoffs next year, 68 more that this year. Lays out a reasonable way to get them:
1) Enjoy the benefits of a full year of Sanchez as opposed to Burris et al, 25 extra runs
2) Sign an offensive outfielder, Damon and Cameron are mentioned (I would prefer Cameron), 15-20 more runs
3) Trade for Dan Uggla (which, no matter where he played, would be compared to our 1B production this year), 20 runs
4) Hope that Posey is an offensive upgrade and that someone like Nate steps up, 5 runs
That gets him to the right number of runs needed.
I think this is a good approach. We need offensive upgrades in the IF and the OF. If we don't want to sign one of the two "big" bats, then lets get two half-bats.

On #2 who are they comparing the incoming Lf to? Lewis or Velz/Torres or Toress Lewis, or some other combination?
The price on Uggla would real rather matter as well. Right now I lean toward Johnson or Delgado getting most of the play time and the left over time ( which should be considerable) between Garko/Ishi/ Bowker etc. But say Uggla is non tendered this whole thing changes.
Who’s brain did you bring me?

Why assume F. Sanchez will last all year? The blew his shoulder and knee out a couple of months ago. He’s a fragile pussy. I wouldn’t assume those +25 runs or whatever are being assumed.

I also think the DBacks are going to be a lot better next year. For what it’s worth.

Hey, wait a sec.
Grant, I know where you live. Give or take 15 or 20 miles, but still.
If I may… for those too lazy to click through, my argument was a bit more subtle (ie, tortured and convoluted) than GiantPain makes it. Using cockeyed statistical analysis, I use the Bill James Pythag theorem to guess how many more runs the Giants need to score next year to get to 90 wins, which is the average # of wins for all NL West and NL Wild Card winners this decade.

Either that, or they're bitter rivals engaged in a cut-throat competition over the Giants' limited internet fanbase.
Whichever.
