Quick Thoughts

Would it not make sense to just add 2 pieces to our lineup that would make us an above average offense? Well, I know those two pieces. Those two pieces are Chone Figgins and Matt Holliday. Both of them could be easily placed into the lineup and the lineup would look like this:

3B-Chone Figgins

2B- Freddy Sanchez

1B-Pablo Sandoval

LF-Matt Holliday

C-Bengie Molina

SS-Juan Uribe

RF-Nate Schierholtz/Andres Torres/Eugenio Velez

CF-Aaron Rowand

P Tim Lincecum/Matt Cain/Barry Zito/Randy Johnson/Brad Penny

Set-Up- Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo

Closer-Brian Wilson

Now that is a playoff roster maybe even a championship one and I have not mentioned names like the likes of Jonathan Sanchez, Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner. They could potentially be trade bait for other bats. And forget Edgar Renteria, please.

Jonathan Sanchez

Edgar Renteria (I can’t forget his $10M, sorry)
All of Bill Neukom’s money

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

Eureka!

The only things wrong here are that Bengie needs to be leading off, Randy Winn needs to be re-signed to play shortstop, and the poster who signs himself “Mike Fox” needs to be platooning with Sandoval at first. We would take the WS in four straight, maybe five.

I know you’re a Yankees fan, but most teams don’t actually have that kind of money to throw around and the Giants definitely don’t.

by jponry on Nov 15, 2009 2:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes we do

You see, jponry, the Giants just don’t want to win as much as the Yankees do. If we did, we would make Neukom sell the team to his former boss, Bill Gates, who would then pour money down the throat of every free agent and we would win the World Series a lot.

But money doesn’t win the World Series anyway, because the Rays made it in 2008 with a $49M payroll. They lost to a team with a $113M payroll, but still. Also, buying the best talent (and therefore preventing your opponents from getting it) does not guarantee that it will actually perform well. So there.

There is no way the Giants pay-roll goes over $100mil and will probably be around $90mil. They have to pay Tim at least ten million in aribitration and have other arb-eligible players to pay, as well. In all likelihood, the team has about $15mil to spend.

Joe Martinez: You are cool.

by cornball on Nov 15, 2009 2:32 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

We don't know

We’ve got arb raises to Lincecum, Wilson, and Sanchez among others, which could total anywhere between $15-20M. Probably around $10-15M.

Also, you shouldn’t copy and paste what you said in your last comment. It’s right there. We can read it.

I have been asked politely to forget Edgar Renteria. I sure would like to, but he will be on the Giants for another year. I do not have the ability to change this fact. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. I do however have the authority to deal Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner and have traded them both to the Yankees for Jose Molina and Phil Coke and a kick in myh ballz.
